** Is the Guy-Who-Is-Not-Sam-I-Am reluctant to eat the titular dish based on its appearance/color alone, or is his refusal based on his self-proclaimed dislike of Sam-I-Am and the subsequent desire to not give Sam the satisfaction of having got him to do something?

* HoYay: It's possible to see the book as having a gay subtext. Sam-I-Am is offering something at once familiar and yet with an initially-unappealing aspect to it to Sam-I'm-Not ... like same-sex relations. He is convinced that Sam-I'm-Not really, really, deep down inside ''likes'' it and he knows this. Sam-I'm-Not resists this doggedly, which has to make Sam-I-Am even more convinced that he understands Sam-I'm-Not better than he himself does.

** The VideoGame/LivingBooks adaptation becomes especially suspect to this [[https://youtu.be/t0aOetH59hw?t=7m52s by the end]], with Sam-I'm-Not preparing and feeding Sam-I-Am a giant (blue) roast turkey and eventually leading up to them both walking arm-in-arm into the sunset. Said adaptation also has a clip that got cut out of the final product but [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV3FkoB8rWA?t=2m11s appeared in a prototype demo]] where Sam-I-Am approaches the nameless guy on the plate of green eggs and ham in an oddly... ''suggestive'' pose.

For YMMV tropes about [[WesternAnimation/GreenEggsAndHam2019 the Netflix series]], see [[YMMV/GreenEggsAndHam2019 its page]].
----

* MemeticMutation: The animated adaption is frequently used in WebAnimation/YouTubePoop, with special mention going to the opening sequence where Literature/TheCatInTheHat sings about "'''EGGS!''' '''''EGGS!!''''' '''''E-DOUBLE-G-S EGGS!!!'''''"

!!Netflix series
* AndYouThoughtItWouldFail: The announcement and teaser trailer for the Netflix series was mostly met with snark, as there's no way for anyone to stretch the plot of the original book over a full length animated movie, let alone a series. However, once the series debuted and turned out to be a more or less InNameOnly adaptation for the work, only using it's characters and the Seussian style of writing and character design, people pretty much fell in love with it.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeArt: The animated series looks ''gorgeous'', taking Dr. Seuss's whimsical style and giving it a brilliant splash of color, along with some of the most fluid and expressive animation in ''years'' outside of the big screen!
* CrossesTheLineTwice: The trailer for the Netflix series has a clip of Michellee declaring she's vegan...and Sam, earnestly asks, "How long have you known?" as if he thinks she has an STD or something.
* CrossoverShip: Sam-I-Am and [[WesternAnimation/WanderOverYonder Wander]] are good buddies due to being positive hat-wearing fellows who travel around making people smile. Bonus points of them traveling on a whimsical creature. [[spoiler:Then again Wander would probably be turned off by Sam being a scam artist...]]
* EarWorm: The theme for the animated series: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8MHhQfpuoc&t=62s "Back Flip"]]
* EnsembleDarkhorse: [[LemonyNarrator The narrator]] is generally agreed to be among the best parts of the series, largely due to his incredible comedic timing and Creator/KeeganMichaelKey's excellent voice performance. Being a MetaGuy helps, too.
* FridgeBrilliance: Michellee being a vegan is perfectly in-tune with her cautious and overprotective nature. Food products that come from animals can cause food poisoning if it's not prepared correctly, so it's likely Michellee decided not to risk it at all.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: [[spoiler:Guy and Sam opening up to each other and revealing their insecurities. Guy reveals he feels overshadowed by his family and that he's the disappointment. Sam reveals that all those stories about his mom being the best mom ever are all fake, and that he never had a family. Sam assures Guy that his family loves him, and want him to be happy, and Guy assures Sam to keep searching for his mother. It's a real touching moment that brings the duo closer together.]]
* HoYay: Sam can get overly affectionate with Guy to the point that it comes off as flirty.
* JerkassWoobie:
** Guy in the Netflix series; he's a bit of a grump, but after having his dreams dashed and stuck with Sam who only make things worse, you can't really blame him. [[spoiler:And that's not getting into him learning Sam's true nature.]]
** Squeaky from "Mouse"; he was arrested just for stealing a ''tiny crumb of cheese'' to feed his wife and daughter.
* MemeticMutation: "I'm so sorry...how long have you known?"[[note]]Sam's reaction to Michellee revealing that she's vegan.[[/note]]
* {{Squick}}: The "Mouse" episode of the Netflix series reveals that the Oat Mush that Guy enjoys eating is also used in prison sewage systems in place of water.
* WinTheCrowd: The Netflix trailer showed off beautiful animations that look straight like Dr. Seuss became a painter, along with good humor and voice acting for Sam and Guy.
