** Feminists (and other left-leaning fans) who previously supported the film to a great degree and who Paul Feig has been trying to appeal to, are now [[BrokenBase split on whether or not they should support the movie]] due to the perception that [[UncleTomfoolery Patti is an offensive stereotype]].

* HeartwarmingMoments: The "Get out of my friend!" line from the trailer. Yeah, it's a set up for some slapstick comedy, but the wording tells us that these new Ghostbusters will really come to care for each other.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: How a lot of people feel about the movie being a complete reboot is that it completely erases the possibility that the new Ghostbusters will ever team up with the original ones. Many wonder why Sony even bothered getting the old cast to do cameos if they're playing completely different characters.
** Some fans were even hoping they were going to make a LiveActionAdaptation of the ''WesternAnimation/ExtremeGhostbusters'' as it would show one of the original cast training and leading a new generation of Ghostbusters.

* BaseBreaker: Patti, who is on the verge of being seen as an outright EthnicScrappy. Her scenes in the trailer rely on a lot of stereotypical SassyBlackWoman humor, while also pointing out that unlike the three white women on the team, Patti apparently doesn't have a Ph.D. or a college education. This has led to debates between those who think this makes simply Patti the more relatable "Average Joe" of the team, and those who think portraying her in this manner is offensive for implying that she's dumber than her white counterparts.
** This is made more complicated due to the director revealing that the role was originally written for Melissa [=McCarthy=], until he was impressed enough by Leslie Jones in a few ''Saturday Night Live'' sketches to switch things around.

* FetishRetardant: Holtzmann licking her guns in the trailer has caused a lot of reviewers to cringe.

** Some fans were even hoping they were going to make a LiveActionAdaptation of the ''WesternAnimation/ExtremeGhostbusters'' as it would show one of the original cast training and leading a new generation of Ghostbusters. Some have even joked that it would even satisfy the [=SJWs=] as the team is made up of Female Leader, an Athletic guy in a wheelchair, a '''smart''' black guy, and a Hispanic.

** Generally speaking, the '''[[SeriousBusiness insanely heated]]''' political discussions over the film with screaming accusations of bigotry have also driven a few people away out of worry. Since the release of the first trailer, some people have pointed out "If you hate the trailer, you're a sexist. If you like the trailer, you're a racist."

It is quite an ugly sight on the YouTube and on Twitter. Ironically enough, the backlash is coming from not only the detractors who see the trailer as nothing more than a processed Hollywood comedy film with the Ghostbusters license slapped on it for marquee value, but also from the people defending the movie from the detractors who were either dismissed as sexist or stupid for insulting the film, as these people are now calling the film racist for having the TokenMinority member of the team [[UncleTomfoolery act stereotypically "black"]], while also having her serve as the only member of the team who is not a scientist or even college-educated[[note]]it's also worth noting that, even though he wasn't a scientist, Ernie Hudson from the original movie had a Ph.D. in another field, which would explain some of the controversy[[/note]].\\\

* ManipulativeEditing: Sony has been caught deleting the negative comments on the YouTube trailer but deliberately leaving up all of the sexist comments. Many people believe they did this solely so Sony can keep blaming the only reason why people hate the film is because of men against its all female lead.

The idea of including an all-female cast didn't seem to help, and although other mediums for ''Ghostbusters'' have had female teams before, most of the ire toward the project seems to be toward not bringing the original cast back in any significant capacity. And once the trailer was put up on YouTube, the backlash rose to new heights with far more dislikes than likes. The trailer advertises the film in a much more [[DarkerAndEdgier serious and darker light]] (whether the film itself will actually be dark is unknown but doubtful), with many commentators pointing out how the trailer does [[FollowTheLeader many similar things to other earlier trailers for reboots]] (Slowed down piano cover of the theme, an excessive amount of establishing shots, etc.). In fact many comments say that they see the film as little more than an unnecessary reboot and are just sick of them by now.\\\

If you want to know people's opinion about the film, just look at the trailer's rating bar on Youtube, it is excessively in favour of "dislike", with most comments citing how it looks lame, unfunny and forced, and the issues mentioned above.

** As far as the reboot goes, [[http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/ghostbusters-hospital-visit the cast visited a children's hospital]] with gigantic, goofy-looking grins on their faces in a number of photos. Unfortunately, [[MoodDissonance many of the patients looked like they were about to die]] (or at, least, were very, very ill), and a number of viewers with [[BlackComedy morbid tastes in humor]] joked that they were there to capture the ghosts the dying kids. Others simply made fun of the sheer contrast in the images and note how the images themselves appear to be in poor taste.

** Pretty much any criticism laid against the movie - at least until the release of the first trailer - was dubbed as being misogynistic. While there certainly are fans that could fit under that categorization, this screaming overgeneralization is something that didn't sit well with the number of fans who were decidedly '''not''' misogynists. Not helping matters is that Paul Feig has engaged in this line of thinking with his [[DearNegativeReader frequent Twitter rants]], which in part contributes to {{Audience Alienati|ngPremise}}on for the fans that are on the fence.

** Kevin is meant to be this teams version of Janine, but instead of the OnlySaneMan minding the ghost-hunting nutjobs with deadpan barbs the trailer makes him out to be [[FemaleGaze little more than eye-candy]] and [[AllMenArePerverts predictably obsessed with boobs.]]

** With several fans of the original movie who aren't too huge on Paul Feig's style of comedy and/or aren't on-board with the idea of an all-female team, many are disappointed that the movie is not at least a continuation of the original movies. Not to mention that the existing fanbase doesn't really have a PeripheryDemographic of women like [[Franchise/StarWars other]] [[Film/TheLordOfTheRings franchises]] do. This doesn't encompass the entire existing ''Ghostbusters'' fanbase, but it does account for a significant portion of it.
