** ''Armageddon'' is the most widely known entry in the franchise among the global mecha fanbase, and even the recurring Dinosaur Empire is often overshadowed by the Invaders when it comes to which enemy is more memorable. It becoming the go-to ''Getter Robo'' rep for ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars'' starting with the ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Z2]]'' duology doesn't help.

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Devolution Ryoma has mixed reception out of the Devolution Getter Team. Those who dislike him find him to be too Shinji like in character than a Ryoma character, being unsociable, emo and afraid of his own BloodKnight tendencies initially. To add to this, he's seen wearing his uniform cloesed with a tie, making him seem less like Ryoma and more like your typical high school protagonist that has become common since the 2000's. To compound this further, his character seems more like a modern edgy protagonist with an overly dramatic, sad, traumatic backstory than the Hotblooded SociopathicHero BloodKnight Ryoma is famous for. Those who like him still see him as being Ryoma, just younger and having a more of a complex backstory and and character beyond just being a BloodJKnight who needs to grow into choosing to accept and forge his own destiny and determine his own Fate, something that is still intrinsic to a Getter protagonist.

** Dr. Shikishima, mostly due to him being completely and utterly batshit insane and clearly way too old for his job yet possessing a deranged enthusiasm for weapons. Come ''Getter Robo Arc'', he's turned himself into a heavily armed cyborg with a RocketPunch.

** Also Jack King's portrayal in the same. He was appallingly offensive in the original anime (even to the Japanese's eyes), but in ''Shin vs Neo'', he's basically a walking, GratuitousEnglish talking series of [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome Awesome]] and SugarWiki/FunnyMoments.

* With Gurren Lagann Fans: Getter Robo fans tend to get annoyed by Gurren Lagann fanboys for thinking it's the most badass, manliest mecha anime. * AudienceAlienatingPremise: ''Darkness'' is generally held up to be the ''worst'' adaptation of Getter Robo, with the most cited reasons being the gratuitous sexual assault and gore, the decidedly ''un''-Ishikawa character designs and fan-favorite character Musashi being needlessly gender-flipped and made into a BuxomIsBetter MsFanservice. Its unpopularity lead to it seemingly being quietly cancelled during its hiatus.
