** ''Armageddon'' is the most widely known entry in the franchise among the global mecha fanbase, and even the recurring Dinosaur Empire is often overshadowed by the Invaders when it comes to which enemy is more memorable. ** ''Armageddon'' is the most widely known entry in the franchise among the global mecha fanbase, and even the recurring Dinosaur Empire is often overshadowed by the Invaders when it comes to which enemy is more memorable. It becoming the go-to ''Getter Robo'' rep for ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars'' starting with the ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Z2]]'' duology doesn't help. In fact, many new fans are shocked that Ryoma's iconic "hobo" design in ''Armageddon'' isn't his usual appearance in the main continuity.

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Devolution Ryoma has mixed reception out of the Devolution Getter Team. Those who dislike him find him to be too Shinji like in character than a Ryoma character, being unsociable, emo and afraid of his own BloodKnight tendencies initially. To add to this, he's seen wearing his uniform cloesed with a tie, making him seem less like Ryoma and more like your typical high school protagonist that has become common since the 2000's. To compound this further, his character seems more like a modern edgy protagonist with an overly dramatic, sad, traumatic backstory than the Hotblooded SociopathicHero BloodKnight Ryoma is famous for. Those who like him still see him as being Ryoma, just younger and having a more of a complex backstory and and character beyond just being a BloodJKnight who needs to grow into choosing to accept and forge his own destiny and determine his own Fate, something that is still intrinsic to a Getter protagonist.

Come ''Getter Robo Arc'', he's turned himself into a heavily armed cyborg with a RocketPunch.

He's also supposed to be the stand-in for Schwartz Koff as the 'racist American' character since ''Shin vs Neo'' used the ''Go'' characters, but did so in a less offensive manner that he's usually known as the redeeming take of Schwartz' former role.

* TheScrappy: You won't find many fans of Schwartz Koff from ''Getter Robo Go'', thanks to him being severely, ''cartoonishly'' racist towards Japanese people as well as being racist against Black people and xenophobic towards Mexicans, and he makes it quite vocally clear regarding the first part, to the point where he gets so legitimately caught up in his own racist beliefs that he actually gets into a fight with Go Ichimonji after the latter was provoked into attacking him after he wouldn't stop being violently racist. The fact that he starts losing his racist views after falling in love with Sho Tachibana doesn't do anything to mitigate the disdain fans have for him.

*** '''X are temporary, believing in the Getter is eternal!'''[[labelnote:explanation]]An expansion of the '''Believe in Getter''' meme. ''Getter Robo'' being a classic series that started in the 70's means that new generations has a tendency to forget about this and consider it insignificant, preferring to praise the 'hype anime of the season'. ''Getter'' fans instead use this phrase to praise Getter as something that lasts forever in the hearts of many, instead of being introduced as the most trendy anime, and then forgotten when another trendy/viral/memetic anime get introduced. During the rivalry period with ''Darling in the Franxx'', the most common form of the meme is replacing 'X' with 'Dinosaur Waifu', but eventually it becomes a snowclone material with whatever new trendy anime that pops up (usually cutesy or isekai anime). entually it becomes a snowclone material with whatever new trendy anime that pops up (usually cutesy or isekai anime) Ironically, Getter has gotten a boost in popular because of Oishi No Ko and is almost the inverse of Franxx were Oishi No Ko leads newer generations to Getter were as Franxx, is another ''Unlike most mecha" labelled series. To add to this irony, both have very similar elements to Getter with Getter (Franxx has dinosaurs, a gender bender Kamui and the main character passing on) and Oishi No Ko's plot being a revenge plot over a deceased parent, much like how Ryoma and Takuma attempt to avenge their parents as well as it being idol themed, which Macross/Robotech ironically propelled prior in both East and West. So while Franxx is a mecha anime that is hated by mecha fans yet loved by non-mecha fans for reasons other than mecha, Oishi no Ko is loved by non-mecha fans specifically due to the mecha related meeme it spawned. * With Gurren Lagann Fans: Getter Robo fans tend to get annoyed by Gurren Lagann fanboys for thinking it's the most badass, manliest mecha anime. The fact that Gurren Lagann takes heavy inspiration from Getter doesn't help. At the same time. Getter fans will acknowledge the respect Gurren Lagann's creator has for Getter Robo given he is it's self-proclaimed #1 fan.

Its unpopularity lead to it seemingly being quietly cancelled during its hiatus.
