* AnimeFirst: Not many are aware of this, AmericansHateTingle: "Hate" is a strong word, but ''Getter'' has never really managed to go beyond cult status in America. This is especially the anime version of ''Getter Robo Go'' came case for the original anime, which is considered a major classic in Japan, but tends to be viewed as "the goofy old one that hasn't aged very well" in international territories. In general, these fans tend to prefer ''Armageddon'' first, while the manga version wasn't created until after.followed by anything Ishikawa wrote.

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: ''Darkness'' is generally held up to be the ''worst'' adaptation of Getter Robo, almost rivaling the anime version of ''Getter Robo Go'' in terms of how disliked it is among fans, with the most cited reasons being the gratuitous sexual assault and gore, the decidedly ''un''-Ishikawa character designs and fan-favorite character Musashi being needlessly gender-flipped and made into a BuxomBeautyStandard MsFanservice. Its unpopularity lead to it seemingly being quietly cancelled during its hiatus.

** Schwartz himself is generally seen as redeemed in the ''Armageddon'' adaptation, mostly because it toned down a lot of the traits that made him disliked (his racism is less virulent and has enough of a cause to make him understandable, and the romance arc is cut).

* TheScrappy: You won't find many fans of Schwartz Koff from ''Getter Robo Go'', thanks to him being severely, ''cartoonishly'' racist towards Japanese people as well as being racist against Black people and xenophobic towards Mexicans, and he makes it quite vocally clear regarding the first part, to the point where he gets so legitimately caught up in his own racist beliefs that he actually gets into a fight with Go Ichimonji after the latter was provoked into attacking him after he wouldn't stop being violently racist. The fact that he starts losing his racist views after falling in love with Sho Tachibana doesn't do anything to mitigate the disdain fans have for him. Some would argue, however, that he is RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap in ''Armageddon'', [[AdaptationalHeroism due to his racism being heavily toned down]] [[AdaptationalNiceGuy as well as him being a lot nicer than how he was in the manga]], as his racism is portrayed as being more incidental and somewhat understandable, as his hatred is directed towards Japan itself due to their government being responsible for eradicating most of the earths population because of the extreme measures they took against the Invaders on top of him being shown as more reasonable than his manga counterpart.

*** '''X are temporary, believing in the Getter is eternal!'''[[labelnote:explanation]]An expansion of the '''Believe in Getter''' meme. ''Getter Robo'' being a classic series that started in the 70's means that new generations has a tendency to forget about this and consider it insignificant, preferring to praise the 'hype anime of the season'. ''Getter'' fans instead use this phrase to praise Getter as something that lasts forever in the hearts of many, instead of being introduced as the most trendy anime, and then forgotten when another trendy/viral/memetic anime get introduced. During the rivalry period with ''Darling in the Franxx'', the most common form of the meme is replacing 'X' with 'Dinosaur Waifu', but eventually it becomes a snowclone material with whatever new trendy anime that pops up (usually cutesy or isekai anime). Ironically, Getter has gotten a boost in popular because of ''Manga/OshiNoKo'' and is almost the inverse of ''Franxx'' were ''Oshi no Ko'' leads newer generations to Getter whereas Franxx is another "Unlike most mecha" labelled series. To add to this irony, both have very similar elements to Getter with Getter (''Franxx'' has dinosaurs, a gender bender Kamui and the main character passing on) and ''Oshi no Ko''[='=]s plot being a revenge plot over a deceased parent, much like how Ryoma and Takuma attempt to avenge their parents as well as it being idol themed, which ''Anime/{{Macross}}[=/=]Anime/{{Robotech}}'' ironically propelled prior in both East and West. * BaseBreakingCharacter: Devolution Ryoma has mixed reception out of the Devolution Getter Team. Those who dislike him find him to be too [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Shinji-like]] in character than a Ryoma character, being unsociable, emo and afraid of his own BloodKnight tendencies initially. To add to this, he's seen wearing his uniform closed with a tie, making him seem less like Ryoma and more like your typical high school protagonist that has become common since the 2000's. To compound this further, his character seems more like a modern edgy protagonist with an overly dramatic, sad, traumatic backstory than the Hotblooded SociopathicHero BloodKnight Ryoma is famous for. Those who like him still see him as being Ryoma, just younger and having a more of a complex backstory and and character beyond just being a BloodKnight who needs to grow into choosing to accept and forge his own destiny and determine his own Fate, something that is still intrinsic to a Getter protagonist.
* BrokenBase:
** The end of ep 13 of Arc caused a division in the fanbase with it ending on another cliffhanger. Some are fine with the ending for confirming that [[spoiler: Shin Getter becomes Getter Emperor and Getter Dragon becomes Saint Dragon, as well as showing Takuma's team riding out to challenge the BadFuture that has loomed over the franchise for decades]] while others are dissapointed that the anime did not give a definitive conclusion to Arc. The sudden skipping over what happened to [[spoiler:Bug after Dragon appeared and Kamui ends up in prison on Mars]] as well as the appearance of [[spoiler:Getter Ten and inexplicable return of Baku, who had decided to stay in the future with Getter Emperor the previous episode]] did not not help matters much.
** The ''Devolution'' manga is also a pretty contentious subject for fans. It being from a different writer naturally leading to this and how they interpret Getter Robo's themes, especially considering the manga puts the multiverse and Getter Emperor, themes that were just touched upon in prior works, to the center.

much.

** Getter Robo Arc, despite featuring flashbacks has left viewers who are not familiar with the previous manga installments having unanswered questions. This is most notable with Shin Getter Robo which in early flashbacks seemed no more powerful than Arc, but suddenly displays abnormal, EldritchAbomination abilities with little explanation in EP 7.
** ''Devolution'' also is hit by this a bit, being a spinoff manga that has a ton of references to past works in the franchise and being focused on the multiverse and Getter Emperor.
