** Jon's "Under the Super Scope" series started to got some backlash after focusing on games he thinks have game design issues such as ''VideoGame/CrashBandicoot1996'' and ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaPhantomHourglass'' while most episodes until then were positive reviews. It doesn't help that they are games from fan-favorite franchises and that Jon is not cowed about his opinions (going as far as calling ''Phantom Hourglass'' "the worst ''Zelda''" in the title of the video). While the episodes usually have more than 95% of thumbs up, it usually drops to around 80% anytime he speaks ill of a game (although nothing is as low as the 70% on his negative review of ''VideoGame/SuperMario64DS'').
** Their review of the ''VideoGame/MegaManBattleNetwork Legacy Collection'' has roughly 40% dislikes due to [=NintenDaan=] calling ''[[VideoGame/MegaManBattleNetwork5TeamColonelAndTeamProtoman Battle Network 5]]'' inferior to ''[[VideoGame/MegaManBattleNetwork 2]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/MegaManBattleNetwork 3]]'', while also lumping it in with ''[[VideoGame/MegaManBattleNetwork4RedSunAndBlueMoon 4]]''. The problem with this is compared to ''5'', ''4'' is [[{{Sequelitis}} much more unanimously disliked]] while ''5'' is considered [[SurprisinglyImprovedSequel a return to form in terms of quality]]. He even said that his opinion was "not a hot take", which many also disagreed with.

* HarsherInHindsight: All the "Welp, Andre's not here again" jokes became much harsher when it was revealed that this was very much the case behind the scenes, where Andre would disappear for significant lengths of time so that Derrick or Steve would do the work instead. The entire friendship between Andre and the others also falls into this after Derrick revealed how much Andre kept trying to guilt-trip him into staying at GX and all the stress he put Steve under.

** A recurring gag around the time of coverage of ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosForNintendo3DSAndWiiU'' was that someone would get beaten up if a script contained [[CowboyBebopAtHisComputer an obvious factual error]] (for example, André calling Ridley a "she" in [[https://youtu.be/VrKDh8pFbQ0?si=5lFb6yejf7VXsBYB an analysis video]]). It was an amusing bit of SelfDeprecation at the time, but it became significantly less funny when word came out that André did legitimately abuse his staff (not physically, as far as we know, but still).

Minor fix.

* OvershadowedByControversy: Ever since 2020, it's been very hard to talk about [=GameXplain=] ever since it was revealed that André abused both Derek and Ash as employees, causing them both to leave and starting [[WebVideo/GoodVibesGaming thier own channel]], with [=GameXplain=] being on a slow decline ever since (the channel itself seemingly having to double down on clickbait just to save face). Meanwhile, André is content to just [[ImplausibleDeniability sweep it all under the rug, and act like it never happened, and is still happening]].

** "I can't believe X was included before Daisy" was a pretty common complaint each time a new costume was added to ''VideoGame/SuperMarioMaker'' instead of the core ''Mario'' character Daisy, especially when it was something rather obscure or silly like a Mercedes car, Yamamura the pigeon or Master Belch from ''VideoGame/{{Earthbound}}''. The joke was so infamous that it still goes on, even ''after'' Daisy [[ImStandingRightHere actually got added to the game]].

8.8 is now a disambiguation page. Natter. Cut.

* EightPointEight: Gamexplain has developed a bit of a reputation for this.
** One that comes in mind is their 2.5/5 review of ''VideoGame/TheWonderful101'', as well as their "meh" review of ''VideoGame/PokemonSuperMysteryDungeon'' by [[WebVideo/BrainScratchCommentaries Ted Wiesen]], who admittedly said that he didn't really like the series in the first place. They also didn't give a very good review to ''VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising'', ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfLegacy'' and ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTwilightPrincess HD''.
** Ted got hit with this again with his review of ''VisualNovel/PhoenixWrightAceAttorneySpiritOfJustice'', giving it a Dislike rating despite every other review of the game being positive. The fact that the video itself has a higher ratio of dislikes should tell you how many people agreed with him.

Now a disambiguation.

* CriticalResearchFailure: During an [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrKDh8pFbQ0 Analysis Video]] on ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosForNintendo3DSAndWiiU'', André erroneously referred Ridley a female when in actuality, Ridley is male. Derrick later recalled this goof and says that he "had to go beat that fact into (André)".

** The presenters (André in particular) making predictions on trailers and them ending up coming true. They've done this so much a twitter account named [[https://twitter.com/AnalysisMachine "GameXplain Quotes That Aged Well"]] was set up by a fan to document these moments. Special mention goes to [[https://twitter.com/AnalysisMachine/status/1255542363004567553 this moment]] for predicting a bonus level for ''VideoGame/SuperMario3DWorld'' to an ''insanely'' accurate degree, gleaming information from a ''four second clip'' that the Toad in the video was Captain Toad, notes that he doesn't jump, correctly assuming they're puzzle focused, and mentioning the different camera options.

*** In fairness, one can see why it might have appeared fishy to some as it was happening. The leak was a hot topic of debate amongst the Smash fanbase at the time, and the channel was/is well-known for making videos, sometimes multiple videos, about similar popular rumors and leaks, regardless of if they thought they were true or false.
