* ItsTheSameNowItSucks: One of the biggest criticisms of the film is that it basically uses every trope associated with the franchise but does nothing new with them. Though this a tad ironic, considering one of the biggest complaints fans had with later films was how much the series [[TheyChangedItSoItSucks deviated from its core concept]].

* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments:
** When Jason has Chewie cornered, the latter offers him a hockey stick, stating "it completes your outfit."
** Chew burning his lip on a flaming shot while DistractedByTheSexy.
** Trent's BuxomBeautyStandard gushing as he and Bree have sex.
** Trent, Chewie, Bree and Lawrence playing beer pong. The loser has to drink out of a shoe, only for Trent to refuse to do so, causing Chewie to just shrug and drink from the shoe himself.
** The fact that Jenna clearly recognizes that Trent is cheating on her with Bree, but she averts SkewedPriorities to such a degree that she doesn't even seem to care. As said in Dead Meat's Kill Count recount for this film:

* TearJerker:
** Jason has a flashback to his mother's death and attacks Whitney in a rage, but stops when he sees his mother's locket hanging around her neck. Whitney tries to use the opportunity to talk him down; when she calls him by his name, he seems downright startled, as if it is the first time in years anyone has spoken to him like that.
** Once again, [[spoiler: Jenna's unexpected death]]. [[spoiler: Clay is clearly devastated when he sees her get impaled by Jason's machete, and he [[RapidFireNo repeatedly says "No!"]] upon seeing it. His sister Whitney has to physically pull on him away.]]
** The remaining survivors listening to a wounded [[spoiler:Lawrence]] begging for help before he gets finished off while helpless to do anything, as they know Jason is just out there waiting to pounce, with Bree curling into a fetal position and crying by the end of it.

** There's some debate about whether Trent and Jenna are merely members of the same social group and he wants to date her, they're casually dating, or they are in a sexual relationship. Their interactions leave some room for all three possibilities. This also makes it questionable whether Trent's fling with Bree is a case of cheating on Jenna or merely giving up on a relationship with her that he sees isn't happening; Jenna notably doesn't say anything about him cheating, though that may be because she has much bigger concerns.

* CrossesTheLineTwice: Trent cheating on his girlfriend with Bree isn't funny by itself, but the build up to it can elicit a laugh. Chewie steals some wine from Trent's shed and then spits it out, saying that the poor taste is Trent's karma for being a douchebag, only for a GilliganCut to show Bree (Chewie's LustObject) and Trent having sex.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Much of the cast is forgettable as usual, but unlike other entries, there are plenty of entertaining characters.

** Whitney has a backstory of looking after her dying mother while her brother ducked that responsibility and gets some ActionGirl moments in the climax, plus a decent escape attempt in the extended edition. She's far from the film's best character, but the amount of time she spends as a DamselInDistress and [[spoiler:how she lives while Jenna gets impaled]] cause her to get a degree of scrappydom that probably isn't quite deserved.

** Creator/TravisVanWinkle had played a JerkJock named Trent [=DeMarco=] a couple of years earlier in ''Film/{{Transformers}}'', who was then PutOnABus in the later films in that series. Some people involved with both franchises claim they're the same character; if true, then it makes sense he didn't appear in later ''Transformers'' movies, [[spoiler:[[KilledOffForReal because he's dead]]]].

* WildMassGuessing: There's a (not very serious) fan theory that Jason kills the campers not because they trespassed on Camp Crystal Lake, but because they stole his marijuana.

* HilariousInHindsight: Actress America Olivo, who plays Amanda, would later appear in ''Film/MissionImpossibleRogueNation'', which makes America the second cast member to act in a ''Franchise/FridayThe13th'' installment and participate in the ''Series/MissionImpossible'' franchise after Peter Mark Richman, who played Charles [=McCulloch=] in ''Film/FridayThe13thPartVIIIJasonTakesManhattan'' and had guest starred in several episodes of the original ''Series/MissionImpossible'' television series (one of which has him tried to look like a killing of a kid king is done by his EvilUncle, while his ''Friday the 13th'' character Charles is an actual one himself). Both the ''Friday the 13th'' and ''Mission: Impossible'' franchises were owned by Creator/{{Paramount}}.

** Chewie's [[CasualDangerDialogue muted reaction]] to finding Jason standing right behind him:

** Bree sleeping with Trent while he is still technically dating her friend (although there are serious signs they are about to break up) and taping herself having sex with Trent isn’t exactly FinalGirl behavior, but isn’t particularly bad for this franchise. However, a lot of fanfiction takes it for granted that she is a GoldDigger out to blackmail Trent with her sex tape and/or (due to a shot of an unopened box of codoms in the extended cut) deliberately get pregnant to make Trent marry or financially support her, and that she is planning to do so throughout all of her screen time.

* RonTheDeathEater: Whitney has a backstory of looking after her dying mother while her brother ducked that responsibility and gets some ActionGirl moments in the climax, plus a decent escape attempt in the extended edition. * [[SurprisinglyImprovedSequel Surprisingly Improved Reboot]]: In spite of [[ClicheStorm the rather basic and archetypical plot]] ([[Administrivia/TropesAreTools or probably because of it]]), there are many fans who see this film as a major improvement over past sequels, with many appreciating Derek Mears’ portrayal as Jason, the inventive kills, and the return of the simple "Jason in Crystal Lake killing teens" plot that the [[Film/FridayThe13thPartVIITheNewBlood more]] [[Film/FridayThe13thPartVIIIJasonTakesManhattan controversial]] [[Film/JasonGoesToHellTheFinalFriday sequels]] [[Film/JasonX were]] [[Film/FreddyVsJason missing]].
