YMMV / Friday the 13th (2009)

  • Ass Pull: Jenna's unexpected death is this to most viewers.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Trent. A lot of fans consider him to be an unbearably loathesome Asshole Victim with no redemptive qualities, but there's quite a few who find him hilariously douchey and to be one of the few interesting characters in the film. Travis Van Winkle's over the top performance certainly helps.
  • Cliché Storm: The most archetypical Friday film to date.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse:
    • The Plucky Comic Relief Chewie has been well-received by critics who gave this film both positive and negative reviews, some considering him to be one of the most likable characters on screen and having a "memorable death."
    • Jenna has been be so well-liked that most audiences wished her character survived to be the Final Girl and not have been Impaled with Extreme Prejudice. It was also thought that this role turns out to be actress Danielle Panabaker's Star-Making Role.
    • Bree is also popular for being the Ms. Fanservice character with her memorable sex scene and her Rasputinian Death.
    • Richie from the prologue tends to be pretty popular as well, mainly for being a Nice Guy and having some genuinely funny moments.
    • This movie's Jason seems to be pretty popular too.
  • Funny Moments: When Jason has Chewie cornered, the latter offers him a hockey stick, stating "it completes your outfit".
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Arguably the first (and possibly only) thing everyone will say why they watched this movie was to watch Jason kill the entire cast.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Jason's face; the designs have run anywhere from unsettling to disgusting in the originals, but they outdid themselves in this one.
  • Moe: The Cutie Jenna is outright adorable without having to do any Fanservice unlike Amanda, Bree and Chelsea, possibly her actress Danielle Panabaker is naturally like that.
  • Older Than They Think: Jason being a cunning and agile killer unlike the supernatural zombie Jason, which is what the audiences are most familiar with. The original Jason was also fairly cunning and had at least one instance of using a trap to kill his victim (a snare trap to allow him to calmly walk in and slit a throat, in his very first film). It was after becoming undead that he became more of a blunt instrument.
  • The Scrappy:
  • Squick: Chewie drinking from his shoe is this in-universe and out.
  • Tear Jerker: Jenna's unexpected death.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Jenna was a highly anticipated character that some fans disliked how she was somewhat anti-climatically Impaled with Extreme Prejudice and then the Final Girl role goes to Whitney, who fans view her as less interesting despite the actress Amanda Righetti being as beautiful as Jenna's actress Danielle Panabaker and a Replacement Scrappy.
  • The Woobie:
    • Jenna, she has an outright Jerkass for a boyfriend who then accuses her of cheating with a guy he hates that she is trying to help to find his sister and then gets Impaled with Extreme Prejudice by Jason near the end, all because she volunteered to help out Clay to find his sister.
    • Also Whitney, whose boyfriend and friends were killed and herself later is kidnapped and held a prisoner by Jason.
    • Clay, his sister goes missing and when trying to find her with his friends they all are killed by Jason, including Jenna, the only one who listened to him and was willing to help him as soon as they were about to escape. What's worse is that he finds out her sister was kidnapped by Jason and in the end, just when everything seemed fine he has to witness her sister who he tried so hard to save possibly die from a not dead Jason possibly leaving him the only survivor. Poor guy...
