** Poison in ''Frontier'' is percentage-based, so the more HP the boss has, the more damage the poison will do. This cna turn even the bonus bosses into jokes.

* EvenBetterSequel: ''Champions'', at least in terms of gameplay. The combat gains added depth due to the changes to field placement and attack ranges, and Vivosaurs can be somewhat customized in terms of color and stats thanks to Wondrous Fossils, Super Evolvers and the game's higher level cap also add more of a sense of progression, as one can't simply soar to the highest levels by cleaning every fossil you find early game.

** ''Frontier'' gives us Paleo Pals, [=AI=]-controlled teammates who only have one Vivosaur they can use and are prone to ArtificialStupidity. They are completely mandatory for filling out your party of three Vivosaurs, as you yourself are only allowed to control one Vivosaur in any given battle.

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: ''Frontier'' gets quite a bit of this from fans of the first two games, for reasons ranging from having a smaller roster of Vivosaurs to the complete overhaul of combat, especially after the improvements made to it in ''Champions'', and only having direct control of one Vivosaur in your party.

* FirstInstallmentWins: In terms of story, the first game's is generally considered the best, but for the halfway plot twist and the depth of the second half of the game.

* FridgeLogic After you beat the game, the game makes you shell out $20,000 for an oasis seed, because there's an area called parchment desert where your radar won't work because of how hot it is. Soooooo... how come your radar worked just fine in [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Mt. Lavaflow?]]
* GameBreaker: Compso. It can lower the opposing AZ dino's attack and defense by 90% AND it gives you a nice FP bonus thanks to FP Plus just by being in your SZ. And you can get one pretty early on.
** Raja in Champions, which can be found in the first area, as it can evolve into Giga Raja with a Gold Fossil, which can also be uncovered early with a little dedication. By combining its new, highly-powered attacks with its ability to Charge power, Giga Raja can deal more damage than the highest possible Hit Points of any Vivosaur!
** Heracles. It has absurdly high attack, especially for a Mid-Range, AND it can hurt you indirectly with its above average Support Effects and Enflame skill.

* ThatOneBoss: Saurhead. The issue is not that he's exceedingly strong, it's that you have to play ''extremely'' defensive, because [[WeCannotGoOnWithoutYou losing even one vivosaur makes you lose.]]

** Two-sided fossils. You have to clean two fossils in the same amount of time, and Burst Points won't happen. To make matters worse, they're the ''only'' body part of that Vivosaur, meaning you have to really grind to make them viable in combat.

* ThatOneBoss: Saurhead--the issue is not that he's exceedingly strong, it's that you have to play ''extremely'' defensive, because [[WeCannotGoOnWithoutYou losing even one vivosaur makes you lose.]]

* ScrappyMechanic: Two-sided fossils. You have to clean two fossils in the same amount of time, and Burst Points won't happen. To make matters worse, they're the ''only'' body part of that Vivosaur, meaning you have to really grind to make them viable in combat.

* SidetrackedByTheGoldSaucer: Fossil cleaning is ''addicting''. It's possible to be on chapter 2 and have a bunch of upgrades and powerful Viviosaurs.
** The upgrades that let you find new fossil rocks make it even ''more'' addictive.

* TheWoobie: Rosie realizes she's TheLoad, and is genuinely sorry when you have to help. She even asks if you hate her.

* DamselScrappy / TheLoad: Rosie. So very badly. This is even lampshaded when she points out how many times you've had to pull her ass out of the fire.

* TheWoobie: Rosie [[GenreSavvy realizes]] she's TheLoad, and is genuinely sorry when you have to help. She even asks if you hate her.

* UrbanLegendOfZelda: The original had the mysterious dig site "Ancient Ruins," which was assumed to exist from cursory views of the map.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Judging from the fandom alone, you would think the series is about a group of reptilian aliens and their struggles, and not dinosaur battling. It's probably fair to say some of the fans are [[JustHereForGodzilla just there for the dinaurians.]]

[[spoiler:As long as it's in the SZ, it's immune to such statuses.]]
** The REAL GameBreaker in Fossil Fighters: Champions is Heracles. It has absurdly high attack, especially for a Mid-Range, AND it can hurt you indirectly with its above average Support Effects and Enflame skill.

* CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming: The park night scenes.

* CrowningMomentOfFunny: The game's commentators, Slate Johnson and P.A. Leon are the source of many of these as they give professional, totally unbiased commentary... as they cheer you on.

* CrowningMomentOfAwesome: Plenty of these, one that stands out is when you get your own [[OlympusMons Olympus Mon]] and proceed to curbstomp your way to the bad guy. The commentators really help.

* HoYay: With Pauleen if you play as the female character, as she does get embarrassed when she takes you by the hands.

* AcceptableHobbyTargets: The three commanders of the Barebones Brigade? They're a hipster, a hippie, and a metalhead. The game especially has fun taking potshots at Cole, the hipster, and Todd remarks that it's no wonder everyone was so terrified of him.

The fact that they were such acceptable targets meant [[FriendlessBackground no one wanted to have anything to do with them,]] meaning they desperately attached themselves to the first charismatic figure who appeared to them and had no trouble [[WhosLaughingNow turning on those who mocked them.]] But it's also why, despite the fact that they were used, they can't stay mad at said figure--they know he tried to do what he thought was right, and they were ecstatic that they'd been shown ''any'' kindness at all.]]
