Not Vindicated By History by any means. Throughout its entire lifetime, this game remained considered a forgettable game by the vast majority of players. While it had a 4.1 rating on the App Store at one point, it was based only on 400 reviews and in comparison had an extremely low 2.4 rating on Google Play at the end of its lifecycle, based on 25.3K reviews, indicating that the App Store rating was just a small minority overall. On top of that, its is also the lowest rated FF game on review aggregating sites (less than 25/100 both by critics and users). The example also was factually wrong as it also had gacha in the in-game shop. Added context to other examples.

* FashionVictimVillain: Rubicante.[[SugarWiki/AwesomeArt Awesome Art]]: If there's one good thing that can be said about the game is its beautiful sprite work: it's ''Final Fantasy'' ''I'' to ''XIII'' in sprite form once again or for the first time, done by the original pixel art designer herself. Tellingly, this is the one thing from the game that lives on, in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyRecordKeeper''.

** The battle system. Just swipe your finger/stylus over your characters like mad, and you have a system. ''That's it.''
** Having to pay for new areas and new characters is a dick move, but excusable since they ''are'' optional extras. What isn't is that the gold hourglasses you need to revive the party cost money. Due both to going [=F2P=] and the public's general acceptance of most of the game's predatory mechanics like the gacha due to popular games like ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyRecordKeeper'' and ''VideoGame/FateGrandOrder'', it's now deemed a fun time waster.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyRecordKeeper'' is considered to be "what ''ATB'' should have been in the first place", with a similar set-up and draw (form a party of ''Final Fantasy'' heroes, explore levels from their home worlds) but a much more complex gameplay system with much gentler micro-transactions.
** Though it's still not highly regarded, people began to warm up to the game a bit more once it was made free to download. At that point the only things you need to pay for are optional extras, you're free to ignore them and just play the base game, which is nothing special but provides an adequately entertaining way to waste time.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Based on premise alone the game ''could'' have been great, and the sprite work is awesome and shows there was real effort put in. The result has not only been underwhelming, but completely hated by fans and reviewers alike. The Scrappy is a hated character, not a hated game.

* TheScrappy: Slowly becoming this to ''the entire franchise.'' Between the microtransactions, the screen swiping battle system, randomized DLC main characters and overpriced DLC campaigns, you have a major bomb in the iOS store. Reviewers have unanimously declared it a lazy cashgrab to the point of some saying it's ''insulting'', and most of the fanbase concurs. Considering the massive BrokenBase the series has, for ''everyone'' to hate it is an impressive achievement. Even the much reviled ''[[VideoGame/FinalFantasyMysticQuest Mystic Quest]]'' had ''some'' fans.
