* AudienceColoringAdaptation: There are a ''lot'' of Felix fans who absolutely hate this adaptation of the character and how its become the most well known incarnation of the series, feeling its painted peoples perception of Felix as a bland WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse clone and a obnoxiously cheerful, patronizing boy scout in contrast to his rascally AntiHero personality in the groundbreaking Creator/OttoMessmer [[WesternAnimation/FelixTheCatOttoMessmer cartoons]], and only worth watching to make fun of its [[NoBudget rock bottom]] [[LimitedAnimation production values]] and asinine stories and writing. Notably, the team working on ''WesternAnimation/TheTwistedTalesOfFelixTheCat'' considered it the series' AudienceAlienatingEra and intentionally wanted to avoid using anything from the Joe Oriolo cartoons, and only relented because Don Oriolo insisted on at least including the Magic Bag of Tricks, and then forced a retool on the show to be more like his dad's show in the second season--and when that happened, [[WriterRevolt they wrote whole episodes taking snipes at the Oriolo cartoons in retaliation.]]

* MemeticLoser: The Professor is one in and out of universe, simply because he's such a pathetic villain who is doomed to always lose to Felix and get his butt handed to him either by the cat, his own hand, or just sheer bad luck. Theres a reason he's considered one of the poster childs for both HarmlessVillain and IneffectualSympatheticVillain.

"Idiot Plot" and "What an Idiot!" are now Flame Bait.

* WhatAnIdiot:
** In "Into Outer Space", the Professor has Felix trapped inside of his laboratory and has a clear shot at getting the bag from him, so what does he do? Trap Felix ''and'' the bag in a satellite and launch him out into outer space, the ''exact opposite'' of what would've helped get the bag. On top of that, it gets Felix recognized as a worldwide hero by being launched into space. And Professor decides to go to the trouble of travelling all the way to the antarctic where Felix landed to steal the bag anyway. Even the Professor [[DidntThinkThisThrough realizes he didn't think things through by the end.]]
** Professor makes another boo boo in "Venus and the Master Cylinder", where he sends away Poindexter to live with Master Cylinder as his pupil in exchange for a 1,000,000$ reward, only for it to immediately blow up in his face when Cylinder enslaves Poindexter and scoffs at the idea of offering Professor any money, tying him to a rocket and sending him away. Unless his absentmindedness made him forget how hostile Master Cylinder was to both him and his nephew in "Master Cylinder, King of the Moon", there was absolutely no reason he should have trusted Cylinder.
** As we can see in the ending of [[Recap/JoeOrioloFelixTheCat1x82OutWestWithBigBrownie "Out West with Big Brownie"]], Bart the ranch owner rigs the boulder trap for Big Brownie on a cliff that's ''directly above his house''. Even if his trap had succeeded in killing the bears, [[PyrrhicVictory it would have destroyed his cabin along with them anyway!]]
** In [[Recap/JoeOrioloFelixTheCat1x08BlubberinoTheWhale "Blubberino the Whale"]] Felix is LostAtSea on a raft. With his bag. You're not surprised why this is on here, are you?

"Idiot Plot" is now Flame Bait.

* IdiotPlot: The Trans-Lux series had such a hectic production schedule and so little time to write the stories, that subpar story material would easily slip through, resulting in both Felix and the Professor sharing the IdiotBall (Rock Bottom is exempt, [[DumbMuscle as he's already an idiot]]) For example;
** [[Recap/JoeOrioloFelixTheCat1x02IntoOuterSpace "Into Outer Space"]], which has the Professor successfully trapping Felix in his lab so he can get the Magic Bag...only to do the exact opposite of what would help him and stuff Felix ''and'' the bag into a satellite and launch them both into outer space, which not only robs Professor of the bag, but ends up making Felix a national hero for travelling into space.
** [[Recap/JoeOrioloFelixTheCat1x08BlubberinoTheWhale "Blubberino the Whale"]] has the plot centered on Felix stranded on a raft in the middle of the ocean and starving. The thing is, Felix has his Magic Bag on hand, which he can use for any situation or purpose he needs--in fact, he turns the bag into a gyrocopter at the end to defeat the eponymous whale. Why didn't he just use the bag to return back to the mainland in the first place?
** In [[Recap/JoeOrioloFelixTheCat1x31VenusAndTheMasterCylinder "Venus and the Master Cylinder"]], there is absolutely no reason that Professor should have entrusted Poindexter to Master Cylinder, considering how hostile he was to him in [[Recap/JoeOrioloFelixTheCat1x29MasterCylinderKingOfTheMoon "Master Cylinder, King of the Moon".]]
** The entire conflict of [[Recap/JoeOrioloFelixTheCat1x103VavoomLearnsHowToFish "Vavoom Learns How to Fish"]] could have been avoided if Felix had let Vavoom stay behind and plug up the dam instead of the other way around, [[IdiotBall especially egregious]] because Felix knew that [[PokemonSpeak Vavoom can only say his name]] and couldnt have warned the nearby townsfolk about the leaking dam if he wanted to. His gaffe ends up taking a bad situation and making it even worse.

!!YMMV Tropes for the Joe Oriolo / Don Oriolo Felix Cartoons and Comics
* AnticlimaxBoss: King Gulpo in [[Recap/JoeOrioloFelixTheCat1x27FelixBabySits "Felix Babysits"]]. The setup is that Poindexter, after restoring Felix to his original size from under the microscope, unwittingly gets some of it on the evil amoeba that was hounding Felix. It goes from bad to worse when Gulpo drinks more of the same growth formula, making him big enough to barely fit in the Professor's lab. It seems like it'd be a good setup for a climatic fight, but Felix easily defeats him just seconds afterward by throwing Poindexter's shrinking formula (which got Felix into this mess in the first place) at the behemoth, reducing Gulpo back to his original microscopic size.
* AssPull: The Professor's airplane abruptly coming to life and turning against him in the ending of ''[[Recap/JoeOrioloFelixTheCat1x65TheProfessorsCommittedNoCrime The Professors Committed No Crime!]]''.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Having worked on the Van Beuren era Felix, Winston Sharples once again returned to compose for the series, and his dynamic musical scores are considered some of the best things about the cartoons. There's a reason he was nicknamed "The East Coast Carl Stalling!"
* DesignatedHero: Felix unintentionally comes off as this in [[Recap/JoeOrioloFelixTheCat1x45FelixAndVavoom "Felix and Vavoom"]]. While he's right to be angry at Professor and Rock for trying to off him and Vavoom, they were both perfectly in their right to take the diamonds, which didn't belong to anybody. Felix even [[KickThemWhileTheyreDown steals their diamonds in the end once Vavoom throttles them.]]
** In "The Magic Bag", Felix trespasses onto the Professor's property, in spite of the signs saying "Private Property", and steals an apple from his apple tree. This almost makes the Professor's animosity towards him seem justified.
* EditedForSyndication: In the original broadcasts, each episode was split into two parts with a cliff hanger at mid point, and the narrator would say "What will happen to Felix in the next exciting adventure of Felix the Cat?" and in the next part, the theme song would play again before the second half (hence why each second half of an episode does a recap of the previous half). These parts were cut in the late 70's by tv stations trying to add more commercials. The DVD releases of the show use these syndicated edits.
* HilariousInHindsight: One of the series recurring characters, Poindexter, is a kid scientist who has [[WesternAnimation/DextersLaboratory Dexter as (part) of his name...]]
* IdiotPlot: The Trans-Lux series had such a hectic production schedule and so little time to write the stories, that subpar story material would easily slip through, resulting in both Felix and the Professor sharing the IdiotBall (Rock Bottom is exempt, [[DumbMuscle as he's already an idiot]]) For example;

* NightmareRetardant: Sure, Master Cylinder looks like a cool, threatening character, but his stilted, wheezy old man voice makes it impossible to take him seriously as a villain.
* NewerThanTheyThink: The Professor's nephew Poindexter is actually the progenitor of the term "poindexter" being a synonym for "geek" or "nerd"!
* RootingForTheEmpire: Professor and Rock Bottom may be crooks who give Felix and others grief, but [[HarmlessVillain they're so hopelessly pitiful and unsuccessful]] ([[TheGoodGuysAlwaysWin to where Felix has a 0 to 1 victory streak against them]]) and have so much more personality than the series' [[FlatCharacter very bland, goody two shoes take on Felix]], that you can't help but feel sorry for them both at times, since Felix [[CantGetAwayWithNuthin basically lives to make their lives miserable]] and has the deck stacked against them, both because of the Magic Bag of Tricks and because the law is always on his side. It could be argued that [[VillainProtagonist they're the actual protagonists of the series]] since [[TheHeavy they're almost always the ones setting the plot into motion.]]
* SoBadItsGood: Between the ultra low budget and clearly rushed animation and frequent bloopers, stilted voice acting and cheesy as Limburger writing, and stories that range from asinine to downright bizarre, this incarnation of Felix is mainly liked by fans for either nostalgic value or for a cheap laugh.
* ValuesDissonance: The Joe Oriolo cartoons are comparatively very free of this compared to the silent cartoons, but the stereotypical use of "Indians" in some of the episodes (i.e. "Felix Out West") definitely wouldn't fly in contemporary cartoons either.
