* FridgeBrilliance: In the original ''Entropy : Zero'', the [[SuperPrototype prototype AR2]]'s moving parts functioned identically to those of the standard [=AR2=]: each squeeze of the trigger discharges pulse energy from the currently loaded power cell in the gun's magazine, which gets automatically swapped for a new cell when reloading. This was revised for the sequel, where each individual shot fired from the gun expends a power cell, while reloading involves the user swapping out the magazine wholesale. Though at a glance this seems like a surface-level change to distinguish the prototype [=AR2=] as a more primitive gun that relies on a detachable mag, it also aptly explains its immense damage output and recoil as the side effects of it firing the equivalent of 30 shots from the standard [=AR2=] ''per pulse''.

* SequelDifficultyDrop: One of the main reasons it's more positively received than the original. The combat is still challenging but it's more reasonably balanced to alleviate unfair deaths, and the puzzles aren't nearly as obtuse as before.

* TearJerker:
** One of Aiden Walker's main motivations for joining the Combine is revealed to be their promise of information surrounding the [[MissingChild disappearance of his daughter]].
** Although it's not the Enrichment Center, but rather the Arbeit arctic facility, watching the Combine bastardize Aperture Science can be somewhat of a downer to fans of the ''Portal'' series.
** Wilson, initially cheery and quirky, [[BreakTheCutie gradually loses this]] as he sees the surface and realizes [[CrapsackWorld just how bad the world is now]].
** Wilson's [[spoiler:shutdown just before reaching the Borealis. On a much happier note, the AI upload station is only a few yards away.]]
** [[spoiler: The G-Man regretfully informs Bad Cop that he cannot bring back his daughter. [[DeathOfAChild Take a wild guess what this implies]].]]

** An anomaly-generating device underneath Arbeit #1, true to the humor of the ''Portal'' series, has a sign warning readers "Do not discharge bullets into device". Of course, the player has to shoot the device to progress.

** Bad Cop finally acquires a revolver near the tail-end of ''[[NoGearLevel Chamber Catacomb]]'', and his enthusiastic reaction to having one as if he was a child being given a brand new toy. And yes, this includes RecklessGunUsage. Thankfully, it was out of ammo. Additionally, the revolver is unceremoniously labelled as "A Gun" in your weapon selection HUD, in contrast to every other weapon whose names are described in far more detail.

** Bad Cop, when nearing his capture of Judith Mossman, sees two turrets positioned with a Companion Cube between them like they're on a dinner date. Bad Cop can't even comprehend what he's looking at.

**The Satellite Comms tower has different floors named: Communications, Higher Communications, Even Higher Communications, and Highest Communications.

* FridgeHorror: The Xen grenades occasionally teleport zombies wearing HEV suits from the original ''Half-Life'' into the world. It is all but implied that these zombies have been in Xen for ''twenty years'', with a [[AndIMustScream headcrab controlling them]] and their HEV suit [[FateWorseThanDeath forcing them to stay alive]]. That is, until they charge at you and you're forced to [[MercyKill defend yourself.]]

* CatharsisFactor: The Aperture turrets which gave you trouble in the ''VideoGame/{{Portal}}'' games? Not only are some of them reprogrammed to be friendly to you, but you can also pick them up and use them to effortlessly gun down oncoming enemies. Unfortunately though, these turrets don't possess infinite ammo, so the fun is short-lasted. (However, the Aperture Turret that opens the door for you DOES have infinite ammo and can essentially act as an invincible-yet-limited mobile bullet shield that can easily mow down foes from close-medium range for you and can even be carried to the very end of the story! Though juggling between carrying it and Wilson can be a major pain, but it '''IS''' doable, though it doesn't fire at [[spoiler:Clone Cop or the Advisor unfortunately...]])
* EnsembleDarkHorse: Wilson, who is loved for being good-natured for an [[AIIsACrapshoot Aperture Science A.I.]] and for his banter with Bad Cop. Even though he is only mandatory for one section in the game, many players opt to take him all the way to the upload station at the end like he asks, helped by the fact that there is an achievement for doing so.
* EvenBetterSequel: Widely considered to be a ''huge'' step up from the original mod, to the point that at the time of this writing it has an ''Overwhelmingly Positive'' review score on its Steam page compared to the original mod's ''Very Positive''.

** Bad Cop and Wilson's conversation with the turret receptionist outside Clone Cop's hideout. Their interaction is just as amusing as the very concept of Clone Cop having a turret for a receptionist in the first place, complete with their own desk and computer.
** If Wilson accompanies you on the minecart ride through the infested tunnels, he'll have a headcrab stuck on him at the end of the ride.
