Evil Is Sexy TRS; this has become an objective, in-universe trope.

* EvilIsSexy:
** Orizaba, an attractive moth fairy.
** Marimonda from the "Realm of the Jaquins" special also qualifies. She's essentially the [[WesternAnimation/WanderOverYonder Lord Dominator]] of the episode, even sharing the same actress and a similar design.

** Season 3 has divided on the conflicts revolving Esteban's actions. Both sides find particular moments satisfying.
*** For those sympathizing with Elena, [[spoiler:having her and her family disown Esteban after the harm he's done is poetic justice, after [[NeverMyFault refusing to take up responsibility for his role in Shuriki's takeover of Avalor over decades.]]]]
*** For those sympathizing with Esteban, it's satisfying to see [[spoiler:Elena realize the harm she's caused to others and Avalor by prioritizing hunting him down relentlessly, [[HeelRealization knowing that she herself]] [[SheWhoFightsTheMonster turns out to be no better.]]]]

* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Marimonda, for sharing her voice with fellow EnsembleDarkhorse [[WesternAnimation/WanderOverYonder Lord Dominator]], whose show had ended right before Marimonda's debut episode and she gets to sing too.
** Esteban seems to be one among [[PeripheryDemographic older viewers]], who enjoy the complexity of his character.
** King Joaquin, Queen Teresa, and Princess Caterina for being Afro-Latinx representation in Disney.
** Carla's alternate persona Rita, whom many fans found more cute than Carla to the point that they wish she were a separate character. Although Carla herself also seems to be one for being [[{{Adorkable}} cute and hilarious]] yet [[DaddysLittleVillain cunning and evil]] as well as having a compelling FreudianExcuse.
** Princess Marisa, aka "Hispanic Ariel", was immediately popular after "Song of the Sirenas" aired.
** Olivia for being Mateo's {{moe}} and {{nice girl}} apprentice.
** Tomiko from the episode "Class Act" has also gotten popular due to her chemistry with Isabel and for being an ''extremely'' {{Adorkable}} GenkiGirl. Helps that she's voiced by Creator/KimikoGlenn.
** Rebecca for being Disney's first Jewish princess (and a Latino/Sephardic Jewish princess at that).
** Bruce the Butterfrog for being so protective of his sunlight exposure that he's the ''villain'' in one episode.
** The crayfish that also [[UnintentionalPun serves]] as the villain in "The Incredible Shrinking Royals".
** Ixlan for being TheComicallySerious and a genuinely badass warrior.

* HarsherInHindsight: In "King of the Carnaval", Esteban sings how he hopes his family never finds out about his role in Shuriki's invasion of Avalor and how he doesn't know what would happen if they did. Well, when they finally do learn the truth in "The Magic Within", to say that Elena is furious would be an understatement, especially when she chooses to banish him to Soledad Island.

"Make Them Proud" was from "The Jewel of Maru". The song in "A Day to Remember" was "Festival of Love"

** "Make Them Proud" from "A Day To Remember", in which Elena visits her parents' ''ofrendas'' and looks back on fond memories she shared with her parents (accompanied by beautiful warm visuals in the flashbacks) as she sings about how she hopes she made them proud as a ruler and a daughter.

Moving to Trivia

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** After learning of the demand for a Latina princess in Disney when he had to debunk claims that [[WesternAnimation/SofiaTheFirst Sofia]] was one (as her mother is Hispanic and from the Ever Realm's equivalent of Spain, but her late father is Scandinavian), Craig Gerber decided to create Elena to make up for it.
** Many fans complained about Gabe's seeming uselessness in situations and him losing a lot of battles within the entire series. "The Princess Knight" established him as a master strategist and tactician and ended up being an effective mentor to Elena, even spilling strategies that could help her win individual battles. Also, after Elena helps him develop his own moves instead of badly mimicking his father's, he becomes quite the awesome "Olaball" player. Additionally, his CharacterDevelopment is him trying to be Elena's protector to him realizing that she doesn't need protecting and instead needs people like him to trust her and assist her in leading more effectively.
** Like [[WesternAnimation/Frozen2013 Elsa]] and WesternAnimation/{{Sofia|TheFirst}} before her, Elena has no love interest and the show greatly emphasizes the aspect of family. This is likewise shared with the rest of the cast barring older couples that would reasonably be parents. Perhaps the only romantic aspect in the show is that Gabe is said to have a BodyguardCrush on her according to AllThereInTheManual, but it isn't a primary focus of his character either.
** "Flower of Light" finally addresses the issue of what of any friends Elena knew before she was sealed the Amulet, an issue that has been bugging fans since the show started.

* AluminumChristmasTrees: Zppilote resides in Xotep, a volcano with blue lava. In real life, the Indonesian volcano of Kawah Ijen spews out blue lava because of its high sulfur content, which makes the lava turn blue when the sulfur comes into contact with the air. Carla and [[spoiler:Esteban]] finding the smell of Xotep unbearable may be a nod to this, although volcanoes smelling like sulfur is normal.

* CantUnHearIt: Apparently, a sizable number of ''Elena of Avalor'' viewers are having trouble watching ''WesternAnimation/SheRaAndThePrincessesOfPower'' without imagining [[Creator/AimeeCarrero Elena in place of Adora/She-Ra]]. ** Orizaba's interactions with Elena are quite flirty, especially during "[[VillainSong The Gift Of Night]]", [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything which had her move in a way that looked like she was trying to seduce Elena]]. Orizaba even hugs Elena during the song, much to the princess's discomfort.
** At the end of her own villain song, Marimonda blows Elena a kiss.

* UnfortunateImplications: [[https://graziadaily.co.uk/life/tv-and-film/disney-is-introducing-a-jewish-princess/ This article]] points out that while a "Jewish Disney Princess" sounds great for representation, the phrase "Jewish Princess" is actually a derogatory term and [[SpoiledBrat stereotype]] regarding daughters of well-off Semitic families. Using this phrase is likely by people who are unaware that it is an already used term with negative connotations.

* DracoInLeatherPants: [[spoiler:Esteban]] gets this treatment in Season 3 following "The Magic Within". Quite a few fans view his remorse over [[spoiler:his past alliance with Shuriki over the past four decades]] as sufficient, and Elena and the other members of the family's [[spoiler:disownment]] of him was met with criticism. ** In the same season, Elena gets this as much as, if not more than him. [[spoiler:While she has every right to be angry at Esteban over his alliance with Shuriki, she actively tries to hurt Esteban on sight (despite him never even thinking of returning the favor), and prioritizes capturing him over Ash, the dangerous malvago who almost ''killed her'' in their first encounter. Even after "Dia de las Madres", where she realised Esteban had more reason than she thought to believe he was unloved, she dismisses Francisco's reminder that Esteban helped her take back Avalor and fully believes he couldn't care less about her safety. There are still a good number of people who defend her, though, pointing out that Elena has little-to-no reason to trust Esteban at all after finding out that, [[UngratefulBastard despite how welcoming the family was of him]], he betrayed everyone, including his own family, in the kingdom to Shuriki, was unintentionally responsible for her parents' deaths, lied to her about it, and refused to take his punishment with dignity; what's more, it's understandable she'd be locked into the past considering all the traumatic events that have happened to her, which isn't even getting into how the ''entire point'' of her Season 3 arc is to let go of the last and focus on the future.]]

* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped:
** Elena's [[MurderIsTheBestSolution willingness to kill Shuriki]] [[spoiler:and ''succeeding'']] without any sort of ThouShaltNotKill lesson being taught (such as IfYouKillHimYouWillBeJustLikeHim, NotWorthKilling, TalkingTheMonsterToDeath, or RevengeBeforeReason). Shuriki is a MoralEventHorizon crosser who has already killed two people herself ''minimum'' (those two being Elena's parents), and has caused the suffering of an entire kingdom for several decades. If she isn't stopped, then she could easily do these atrocities all over again, and is also the type of person who can cause damage even if she were locked up tight. Sometimes, ViolenceReallyIsTheAnswer.
** The show demonstrates that women aren't exempt from being bad mothers and wives (namely in being selfish and absent parents), particularly with Ash, which isn't something you'd typically see PlayedForDrama on children's television.
** Not forgiving someone who has badly wronged you does not make you less of a good person. However, you have to at least give yourself enough time to process what they have done before letting the emotional impact of their wrongdoing guide your judgment.
** It is okay to push away someone who (has) hurt(s) you but still miss them (and sometimes, still love them) while still remembering the good person that they used to be.
** In Esteban's case, only you are responsible for what kind of person you are, and only you can change that.
