** Film/TheLoneRanger and Tonto couldn’t have joined the game at any other point, as their film got the “accolade” of being one of the biggest [[BoxOfficeBomb Box Office Bombs]] ever made, making them the most JustForFun/{{Egregious}} examples in a game filled with egregious examples. Both came out in 2013, which was the only year that Creator/{{Disney}} would even openly acknowledge the movie in such a large manner.

** There was a bit of an in-fandom "pick-me-no-pick-me" rivalry between those who wanted [[WesternAnimation/GravityFalls Dipper and Mabel]] as playable characters in the game and those who wanted WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck instead, with folks on either side insisting that their character(s) be added instead of the other(s). Justified in that-as stressed before-everything in the game is a toy, including all the characters.

** [[WesternAnimation/TheIncredibles Violet]]. Fans have said she's the most powerful playable character in the game. By the time of ''2.0'''s release, [[http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=55562 she's become hard to find in stores due to high demand]].
** According to the developers, this is the reason [[WesternAnimation/LiloAndStitch Stitch]] and [[Franchise/DisneyFairies Tinker Bell]] were added in.

** All of Disney in one video game? That's awesome! We could have Jack Skellington teaching scaring in Monsters U, or Elsa can freeze the ocean in the pirates playset! The possibilities truly are infinite… Oh, they're all designated to their own play set? And some of them can only be used in the Toy Box? Well, I guess that can be fun, too. Fixed by ''3.0'' with the near-play set level experience ''Toy Box Takeover'' and ''Toy Box Speedway'', which allow you to use every character in specialized gameplay worlds.[[note]]Except for ''Cars'' characters in ''Toy Box Takeover''.[[/note]] Had the series not been cancelled, 4.0 would have ''finally'' included a story mode which allowed you to use any of the figures.

** Back before 3.0 was cancelled, the voice actor for WesternAnimation/KimPossible, Christy Carlson Romano, tweeted that she was apparently recording for ''something''. [[WhatCouldHaveBeen A Kim figure in 4.0?]]

One can see this with the praise heaped upon [[Disney/TheJungleBook Baloo]] when his design was shown to be based on the 1967 animated movie instead of the 2016 remake compared to the [[BrokenBase mixed reception]] that the ''Film/AliceInWonderland2010'' figures have received thus far.

** Different iterations of the same character (such as First Avenger Captain America and, to a lesser extent, Black Suit Spiderman) tend to get some criticism for essentially being the same character with a different skin. Only Mickey Mouse (who has his standard red shorts and his [[Disney/{{Fantasia}} Sorcerer's Apprentice]] outfit as figures) tends to escape this stigma as the two different Mickeys have some marked differences.

** Some feel this way about [[WesternAnimation/TheGoodDinosaur Arlo]], who was relegated to being a mountable character via a Power Disc rather than getting a figure. One can infer that the reason Arlo is simply a mount is because quadrupedal characters (such as those from ''Disney/TheLionKing'') have yet to be implemented, and that, with deuteragonist [[WildChild Spot]] already being playable in the game, Arlo would have to become much closer to his size and this would look and seem awkward. Despite this, some feel that he really deserved better, considering that he's the eponymous character of his own movie, and that the "everyone is toys" motif the game has would have justified Arlo's change in size anyway.

** In light of the series's cancellation, many highly requested characters got hit with this. This includes the likes of [[WesternAnimation/GravityFalls the Pines twins]], WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck, [[Disney/LiloAndStitch Lilo Pelekai]] (and possibly one or two of [[WesternAnimation/LiloAndStitchTheSeries Stitch's cousins]]), WesternAnimation/{{Goofy}}, [[WesternAnimation/StarWarsRebels Hera]], Disney/{{Moana}}, Disney/WinnieThePooh and Tigger, the aforementioned Ferb Fletcher, and numerous others.

* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** ComicBook/CaptainAmerica's new ''3.0'' figurine has gotten this reception since its announcement. Some people are happy to see the Captain get upgraded for the new edition, while others would have rather had another Creator/MarvelComics character who isn't already in the game.
** Another debate has also sprung up: should characters from the 1.0 and ''2.0'' versions of ''Disney Infinity'' be upgraded for ''3.0'', or should that effort be focused on bringing in new characters instead? Of course, all this was rendered moot with the cancellation.
** Figures based on movie remakes [[FirstInstallmentWins rather than their original movies]] in general. While some folks don't really care, others would rather have the original versions of the characters because in most cases they're much more popular, recognizable, and timeless rather than designs that they feel will be forgotten in about a year. Maleficent (whose design was based on [[Film/{{Maleficent}} Angelina Jolie's Maleficent]] rather than the one in [[Disney/SleepingBeauty the original Disney film]]) and the ''Alice in Wonderland'' characters (based on the [[Film/AliceInWonderland2010 Tim Burton films]] instead of the [[Disney/AliceInWonderland 1951 Disney film]]) were hit with this when their designs were revealed, and fans expecting [[Disney/BeautyAndTheBeast the Beast]] and [[Film/PetesDragon1977 Elliot]] to appear in the game were concerned that this would happen to them, too. (On the other hand, [[Disney/TheJungleBook Baloo's]] figure (which was based on the 1967 film instead of the 2016 remake) [[EnsembleDarkhorse was a resounding success]], so there was hope...) In the end, these fears were rendered moot with the cancellation of the game in May 2016, which meant the Beast and Elliot never appeared at all. [[note]] However, Beast (and Belle) were planned to come to the game eventually before the cancellation...[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HK0HlLi_6Z4 but they would have been based on the remake]], meaning that they likely would have become this had they been able to be in the game.[[/note]]

** The [[Creator/MarvelComics Marvel universe]] being the main focus of the second game broke the base even further. There's a further split with people upset that the ComicBook/XMen and ComicBook/FantasticFour weren't included, seemingly because of Disney's dispute with Fox over the movie rights to characters. The potential of having the Richards family encountering the [[WesternAnimation/TheIncredibles Parr family]] is certainly enticing… While many were happy to see ComicBook/BlackPanther, ComicBook/TheVision and Comicbook/AntMan revealed in the leaks, many were annoyed that ComicBook/ScarletWitch wasn't present as well. ''Especially'' since there were only two women released among the Marvel characters.
** The fact that the ''Disney/AliceInWonderland'' characters are based on how they are portrayed in the Creator/TimBurton-directed ''Film/AliceInWonderland2010'' live-action films. Some like the idea of these versions of the characters being in Disney Infinity, but others say they would rather have the versions of the characters from the 1951 animated film instead. One thing both sides can (mostly) agree on, however, is that the [[EnsembleDarkhorse live-action movie's version of the Mad Hatter]] (played by Creator/JohnnyDepp) is a welcome addition to the game's roster. With the renders of the three characters having been officially released, the characters are shown to be based first and foremost on the live-action movies, but include some details referencing the 1951 film. (such as the Hatter's now over-sized hat) While some find this to be a happy medium, others still feel that they should have gone specifically with the 1951 designs. ''2.0'' for PC also caps the framerate at thirty frames per second. ''3.0'' for PC lacks support for any new content and figures beyond those of ''Disney/{{Zootopia}}''. The standalone PC versions and the Windows Store versions were also rendered unplayable after certain dates as a result of the cancellation; the original free-to-play Steam version of ''3.0'' was made unplayable as soon as the "Gold Edition" was released.

** This extended to the unreleased premium figures, as a number of folks couldn't get past the fact that all of the ones known to exist would have been re-issues of existing characters that a lot of people already had their hands on. (Such as the Hulk, [[Franchise/ToyStory Buzz Lightyear]], Jack Skellington, etc.) A lot of them were left wondering why the new movesets couldn't have been patched into the existing characters instead.

** The announcement that a power disc that gives Mickey his ''Kingdom Hearts'' outfit would be exclusive only to D23 convention-goers attracted a rather massive backlash.
** The "Squid Wars" Toy Box level has gotten a lot of ire from ''VideoGame/{{Splatoon}}'' fans for what appears to be a [[SerialNumbersFiledOff shameless ripoff]] of the game taking place on a map very similar to Arowana Mall... despite the fact that there was a Toy Box level based on Colombia from ''VideoGame/BioShockInfinite'' built with no such outrage from its fans [[OlderThanTheyThink long before this.]]
** The decision to release the PC version of ''3.0'' on Steam as a free client that you purchase DLC to play in place of the peripherals of the physical versions, namely because the combined price of the DLC totaled almost '''$900''', including [[OneGameForThePriceOfTwo three $40 starter packs]], a $100 pack of characters from 1.0, and full access to the Toy Box. This was rectified a ''day'' after release and the total DLC cost was reduced to a more reasonable $130 with the only starter pack now being Twilight of the Republic.
** [[http://disneyinfinitycodes.com/infinitly-disappointed-battlegrounds-support-missing-for-apple-tv-pc-mobile/ Support for the PC, mobile, and Apple TV versions]] of ''3.0'' were suddenly dropped without warning, leaving any content and figures released after [[Disney/{{Zootopia}} Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps]] (such as ''Marvel Battlegrounds'') unusable on them. Combined with the facts that for some players, these versions were the only ones they had access to and thus were locked out of using any new figures, as well as the developers being unusually tight-lipped over the reasoning behind pulling support for these platforms, the result was that of disappointment, frustration, anger, and grumbling customers returning their new Ant-Man, Black Panther, and Vision figures, with a few angry players declaring that they were [[RageQuit quitting Infinity all together]] and selling ''all'' their figures. The fact that this happened so suddenly[[note]]which meant that a number of people found out about this at the worst possible time: when attempting to use the new figures in the game[[/note]] and (outside of Nick, Judy, and Baloo being made available for the mobile version of the game) upgrading them for those platforms ultimately never occurred before the series came to a close made matters worse.
** The final blow was the announcement of the series's cancellation, completely blind-siding not only the player base but even the developers as well. Disappointed fans took to the web to express their shock at the announcement (while there were subtle clues that the franchise's days were numbered[[note]] such as the one figure per play set rule that suddenly cropped up, the aforementioned cancellation of the PC, mobile, and Apple TV versions of ''3.0'', and even the very fact that support for 3.0 was extended, which in hindsight, was likely a polite way of saying that they were unsure of the series's future[[/note]], [[ShockingSwerve no one saw this coming]] ''[[ShockingSwerve this]]'' [[ShockingSwerve soon]]), and lamenting the fact that the teased Play Sets would no longer happen, the Player's Pick poll would be for naught (meaning Dipper, Mabel and Darkwing Duck would never get figures), the specially chosen Peter Pan figure only saw limited release and was unusable in the game, no Kingdom Hearts content beyond the D23 Power Disc or the Keyblade unlock, and that many good people were now unemployed. In the wake of this, [[SendingStuffToSaveTheShow petitions and all-around rallying to either un-cancel the series or hand off development to another company cropped up]] -- none of which [[AllForNothing amounted to anything at all.]]
** Ferb's disappearance from 1.0 caused a lot of confusion and backlash, as not only did it not make any sense to have Phineas without him, but he had been seen in a few trailers up to the game's release. It only became more heated as Ferb was continuously absent from the next two versions.
