The miniseries now has it's own page, so the examples have been moved to it.

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Trevor Jones score is one of the more memorable parts of the mini series.
* EnsembleDarkHorse: Zippo is regarded by many who remember the miniseries as being the best character and the show's saving grace, owing to his kind & EndearinglyDorky personality that overshadows the overall more bland characterization of the rest of the cast. It doesn't hurt that he's the only dino who features consistently in the show's run.

* RetroactiveRecognition: Creator/WentworthMiller as David in the miniseries.
* SoOkayItsAverage: The miniseries. Passable story, decent special effects, and Creator/DavidThewlis is enjoyable as main villain Cyrus Crabb (confusing motivation aside), but that's all it has going for it, especially if you're a fan of British comedian Lee Evans who is wasted as the talking dinosaur Zippo.
* SpecialEffectsFailure: The only decent-looking dinosaur in the TV miniseries is 26, and this is probably because they use practical effects with her as often as they use CGI. The rest of the dinosaurs are at best mediocre and at worst butt-ugly.

** The spinoff novels on the other hand, are ''definitely'' meant for kids, though a few of them have crossover appeal. Have we mentioned the [[ProudWarriorRace Knights of the Unrivaled]]?

* {{Woolseyism}}: An alphabet used widely in Dinotopia is simply called the "footprint alphabet", since it is based on the shapes of dinosaurs' feet. The Polish translation of the book calls it "alfabet łapiński", with the latter word being a portmanteau of "łaciński" (as in "Latin alphabet") and "łapa" (foot).

* HilariousInHindsight: ''First Flight'' has a plot that revolves around the main characters riding around on [[GiantFlyer Giant Fliers]]. Doesn't sound familiar enough? His mount is named {{Film/Avatar}}.
