** The fact that Victor presumably lost his genitalia, in the incident that led to him becoming Cyborg (specifically in the Comicbook/{{New 52}} origin) has always been a source of contention among fans, particularly African-American ones, with some [[https://themiddlespaces.com/2015/03/31/humanity-not-included/ likening it to castrastion]]. David Walker's short-lived run made a point of showing that Victor had begun regenerating the organic tissue that he'd previously lost, strongly implying that he'd regrown his genitals as well.
** Ever since the advent of the New 52, a major source of contention among fans, even many of those who liked him being promoted to a JLA founder, was the fact that his history with the Teen Titans (and the resulting friendships he made there) was completely wiped out by the reboot. The ''Justice League'' tie-in issues of ''Comicbook/DarkNightsDeathMetal'' restored his history as a former Teen Titan, with Nightwing mentioning that Cyborg and Comicbook/{{Starfire}} had been close friends as Titans before eventually becoming members of the Justice League.

** Starting in late 2017, one formed between some fans of Cyborg and fans of Comicbook/BlackPanther, due to the latter's [[Film/BlackPanther2018 solo film]] receiving way more support and hype in the black community than Cyborg's appearance in the ''Film/JusticeLeague'' film. Some fans have gone so far as to accuse Black Panther fans of being hypocrites for not supporting another high profile black character on film.

** As mentioned above, many Martian Manhunter fans dislike Cyborg for taking his place as the seventh founding member of the Justice League. This goes for fans of [[Comicbook/GreenLantern John Stewart]] as well, as they feel that John would have been a more logical choice for a more diverse founding member of the team, especially since the beloved ''WesternAnimation/JusticeLeague'' animated series previously did just that.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: A common complaint with him after DC fully promoted Cyborg to an A-List character. Despite the attempts to treat him as a main hero, he lacked an ongoing when the ComicBook/New52 launched, and his role in the Justice League was largely as MrExposition and a LivingMacguffin, with him being stripped of his ties to the Titans leaving Vic without any actual meaningful relationships outside of his father. Not helping matters is that his ongoings were forced to continuously retread the question of CyberneticsEatYourSoul at the expense of building up any other stories.

* ReplacementScrappy: (After the ComicBook/New52) While Cyborg is by no means hated in general, many preferred him as a member of the Teen Titans, and would rather have Martian Manhunter stay as a member of the Big 7.

!!The 1989 Film
* CompleteMonster: [[ScaryBlackMan Fender Tremolo]] makes the most of a world AfterTheEnd where he can do what he wants. The leader of a group of vicious marauders called The Pirates, Fender seems to want nothing so much as to wipe out every survivor he can. Fender murdered the girlfriend of TheHero Gibson and her son, kidnapping her daughter as a pet and servant. He murders nearly everyone he comes across and takes special delight in tormenting Gibson himself. When he finally captures Gibson, he crucifies him on a mast. While he wants to cure himself of the plague that's infected so many, Fender has no compunction slaughtering everyone else and scenes set before show he was just as evil before the widespread plague hit: he just needed something to set him loose.
* {{Narm}}: Some of the dialogue is mind blowing. And the studio cut significantly toned it down from the director's version, where Fender seems to be a full blown [[TheAntichrist Antichrist]] with a ReligionOfEvil.
** ''Cyborg 3'''s subtitle: ''The Recycler''.

* TheCastShowoff: Van Damme's trademark leg split actually has a point on this movie, which also doubles as a CrowningMomentOfAwesome. When Gibson is being followed through a dark, almost lightless sewer and is being slowed by an unconscious Nady, he seems to realize he's not going to be able to successfully outrun the pirate chasing him, so he sets Nady down, uses the leg split to suspend himself above a narrow point, and waits. When the pirate passes underneath... well, just [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QaxjRC4-HU watch it for yourself]].
