* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: A common complaint with him after DC fully promoted Cyborg to an A-List character. Despite the attempts to treat him as a main hero, he lacked an ongoing when the ComicBook/New52 launched, and his role in the Justice League was largely as MrExposition and a LivingMacguffin, with him being stripped of his ties to the Titans leaving Vic without any actual meaningful relationships outside of his father. Not helping matters is that his ongoings were forced to continuously retread the question of CyberneticsEatYourSoul at the expense of building up any other stories.

* ReplacementScrappy: (After the ComicBook/New52) While Cyborg is by no means hated in general, many preferred him as a member of the Teen Titans, and would rather have Martian Manhunter stay as a member of the Big 7.

!!The 1989 Film
* CompleteMonster: [[ScaryBlackMan Fender Tremolo]] makes the most of a world AfterTheEnd where he can do what he wants. The leader of a group of vicious marauders called The Pirates, Fender seems to want nothing so much as to wipe out every survivor he can. Fender murdered the girlfriend of TheHero Gibson and her son, kidnapping her daughter as a pet and servant. He murders nearly everyone he comes across and takes special delight in tormenting Gibson himself. When he finally captures Gibson, he crucifies him on a mast. While he wants to cure himself of the plague that's infected so many, Fender has no compunction slaughtering everyone else and scenes set before show he was just as evil before the widespread plague hit: he just needed something to set him loose.
* {{Narm}}: Some of the dialogue is mind blowing. And the studio cut significantly toned it down from the director's version, where Fender seems to be a full blown [[TheAntichrist Antichrist]] with a ReligionOfEvil.

* TheCastShowoff: Van Damme's trademark leg split actually has a point on this movie, which also doubles as a CrowningMomentOfAwesome. When Gibson is being followed through a dark, almost lightless sewer and is being slowed by an unconscious Nady, he seems to realize he's not going to be able to successfully outrun the pirate chasing him, so he sets Nady down, uses the leg split to suspend himself above a narrow point, and waits.
