** The film's [[TalesFromTheCrypt Cryptkeeper]] {{Expy}}, the Creep, is portrayed as a decaying corpse, as opposed to the Cryptkeeper of the comics who was just a somewhat ugly though living human. When Tales from the Crypt was made into [[Series/TalesFromTheCrypt TV series]] at the end of the 80's, the Cryptkeeper would in fact be redesigned as an undead corpse similar to how the Creep looked.

* AdaptationDistillation: Many feel Romero and King perfectly captured the spirit of the old EC comics, right down to the movie being deliberately over the top and full of {{Narm}}.

* FridgeHorror: Jordy Verrill's fate becomes a lot more horrifying when you realize that plants have roots and that the alien plants are likely also ''growing inside him.''

* CompleteMonster: If you're only familiar with Leslie Nielsen's comedic roles, you'd be surprised with just how chilling a bastard his character is here. It's normally hard to make adulterers sympathetic, but he pulls it off with aplomb.
** Nathan Grantham is implied to be one as well through the flashback sequences. Death doesn't improve him.
** Upson Pratt is perhaps the worst. Richard is crazy, Nathan is senile. Upson is sharp-minded and ''delights'' in other people's pain.

* HilariousInHindsight: The comic book loving boy in the FramingDevice is played by JoeHill, who grew up to write some [[LockeAndKey creepy comics]] of his own.

* WTHCastingAgency: StephenKing as a goofy farmer. [[CrowningMomentOfFunny And it works.]]

** Nathan Grantham is implied to be one as well through the flashback sequences. It seems death let him only worse either.

* AuthorAppeal/TakeThat: Jordy is one of a long line of people with the last name Verrill who dies in some horrible way in some way, shape or form.

** Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the movie is intentionally goofy and therefore Narm is acceptable, but he pretty much put on a one-man show and it was really enjoyable.

* MostAnnoyingSound: "BEDELIA! WHERE'S...MY...CAKE? IT'S FATHER'S DAY! [[ThisIsSparta I...WANT...MY...CAKE!]] BEDELIA, YOU BITCH, WHERE'S MY CAKE?!?" No viewer will mourn Nathan Gratham.

* AcceptableCulturalTargets: Hick Jordy is totally incompetent and all of the rich folks (particularly Upson Pratt) are total dicks.

* TearJerker: ''Please Lord, please, just once let my luck be in...Just once...''

** The somewhat bug-eyed expression on Nielsen's face in freeze-frame (coupled with the music score going silly) doesn't help.

* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: The soundtrack is often unfairly overlooked, but it is ''fantastic''.

* HighOctaneNightmareFuel: The end of ''They're Creeping Up on You!'' is perhaps the only genuinely frightening thing in the film (most everything else is deliberately silly) but it's absolutely horrifying. Also an example of NauseaFuel and ParanoiaFuel.
** Also, Richard's revenge. Being immobilized in sand while the tide gets closer and closer to you and ultimately covers you.
** [[PrimalFear The]] [[NightmareFace Crate.]] That is all.

* NightmareRetardant: The scene at the end of ''Something To Tide You Over'' is actually genuinely unnerving, with Leslie Nielson still remaining scary even when being threatened. [[spoiler: And then you see him buried in the sand, and...well, see the above NarmCharm quote.]]

* NarmCharm [[spoiler: I CAN HOLD MY BREATH FOR A LOOOOOOOOOONG TIME!!]]
