* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: A light funny example. The “Ode to Minions” is a touching song about the suffering of video game enemies, but then you discover it is being sang by Bowser. Given Bowser is the guy sending out the Mario baddies to be slaughtered so that Bowser can accomplish selfish goals, him singing this lament to minions comes across as hilariously hypocritical and can diffuse the emotional impact of the song. Likely intentional given the comic’s penchant for dark humor and the song not meant to be take seriously in the first place.
** The minions we're supposed to feel sorry for show no remorse for killing the player if the player doesn't kill them first. Why should we feel bad about defending ourselves?

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Rosalina's been a pretty popular and important character ever since her debut, but she has almost no role in the comic. The ''Galaxy'' games as a whole got little focus, so we never got to her memetic dignity could be taken up to eleven or deconstructed. Perhaps she might have had more focus if ''Smash 4'' didn't mark the end of the comic, but alas.

* UncannyValley: Retrospective example- Adeleine looks only vaguely human in her earlier appearances. While not off-putting on its own, it definitely looks odd after seeing her later, when her design was more consistent.
** Part of Waluigi's humor thrives on this.

** In "Ode to Minions", there's a scene where the Duck Hunt Dog reacts with horror when a duck is shot down and dies in front of him. Nearly five years later, [[spoiler: the Duck Hunt Dog appears as a playable character in ''Super Smash Bros. 4''... with a duck ally, making this seem like the dog '''watched his best friend die before his eyes'''.]]
*** Even worse, the duck has the same colors as [[spoiler:the one the dog is teamed up with in Super Smash Bros. 4, making this all the more feasible.]]
* GeniusBonus: The Turnabout Kirby arc becomes a bit more amusing if you know that John Kirby was the name of the lawyer who defended Nintendo from Universal's allegations that ''VideoGame/DonkeyKong'' infringed on their copyright.
* HarsherInHindsight: [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/599-mmafd5small/ The final non-musical comic]] has Master Hand PassingTheTorch to a new generation of hands to continue the characters' stories, as he's only one of "millions and millions of hands out there". Later, ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'''s "World of Light" story mode opens with the BigBad Galeem controlling... millions and millions of hands, whose power he harnesses to vaporize the entire playable cast except for Kirby.

** The Ice Climbers voting for each other to return in [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/513-smashvotersiceclimbers/ this comic]] is kind of sad since they didn't make the cut. But becomes much, much more heartwarming by ''Ultimate, given that they're back in the game.

* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: When he's introduced, it's clear Eario desperately wants to be related to his hero, Mario, somehow. There's the obvious moment at the end of the ''Janitor of the Mushroom Kingdom'' arc [[spoiler:when his son, Waluigi, invites him to his own family reunion]], but there's also the fact that they are indeed related, though it takes some FridgeBrilliance to figure it out: [[spoiler:according to Nintendo, Waluigi and Wario are brothers, and Mario and Wario are cousins, making Eario Mario's uncle.]] This can very quickly become a TearJerker if one realizes Eario will probably never know that, however.
** All of [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/500-prodigal-robot/ Prodigal Robot]] can make its viewer feel sorrow then joy for what Megaman had to go through.

* HilariousInHindsight:
** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/ridley/ This comic]] and ''especially'' its AltText are even funnier after a certain controversial cutscene from ''VideoGame/MetroidOtherM''. Additionally, in Ridley's trailer for ''Super Smash Bros. Ultimate'', Samus suffers the WorfEffect while in her Varia Suit, but ends the trailer in her Zero Suit while looking ready to kick Ridley's tail.
** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/264-countdowntodoom/ This comic about the moon]] includes a fictional playing card about Donkey Kong's Giant Punch. These two things are combined in ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountryReturns''.

One of the fourth ''Super Smash Bros.'' game's new characters turned out to be... a trainer from ''Wii Fit.'' And her [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBoL1Ic9uWw intro trailer]] shows Kirby ''still'' having trouble with yoga poses.
** Speaking of the fourth Smash Bros., [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/141-bluebombervsblueblur/ this comic]] accidentally foreshadows a certain Blue Bomber getting in.
** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/494-politicalstrife/ This comic]] becomes even more hilarious when you realize that Matthew posted it hours before of the E3 trailer of the fourth Smash Bros, announcing the inclusion of the Animal Crossing Villager in the playable roster. Even better, ''all three'' of his "last-minute guesses for newcomers" in the blurb ([[VideoGame/PunchOut Little Mac]], [[VideoGame/KidIcarus Palutena]], and Franchise/MegaMan) turned out to be true.
** Either hilarious or tear-jerking depending on the reader, but [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/378-fantasy/ this comic]] ends up being more true than expected after Mario fighting the villain solo in the first battle of ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiDreamTeam'' turns out to be a dream of Luigi's.
** "Hey look! I remembered to make Sonic's arms not-blue this time!" Sonic's arms are [[VideoGame/SonicBoom now blue]].
** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/123-armsrace/ This comic's punchline]] is more appropriate than ever now that the fourth ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' installment includes Charizard ''without'' Pokémon Trainer.
** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/539-leak/ One comic]] referenced the Palutena "leaks" for ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'', stating that she'd only be on the battlefield if Ridley was also in the game. Turns out, both of them appear in the game as combatants, even if only Ridley was still not playable (at least, until the next installment).
** "[[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/2014/06/09/vacation-break/ E3 predictions:]] for Smash, '''Palutena, Ness,''' Ice Climbers...Ridley? And '''[[Toys/{{Amiibo}} NFP usage in some form]]'''. From Nintendo, almost certainly '''Zelda''', and maybe '''Star Fox'''. I'm guessing '''Mario Maker is real'''. In a couple days, I can look back on this post and laugh about how inaccurate it is..." The items in bold are the ones that have actually been confirmed. Six out of eight. The other two didn't end up in the Wii U and 3DS games, but ''did'' end up in ''Ultimate''.

** The "Smash Voters" series of comics contain a number of accidental predictions for the series's future roster.
*** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/526-smashvotersmarth/ One comic]] jokingly featured Roy Koopa as a newcomer due to a miscommunication involving names, to the disdain of the other Koopalings and Bowser Jr. In the 3DS/Wii U iteration of the series, Bowser Jr. was confirmed as a playable character, with the seven Koopalings, Roy included, as alternate costumes. Bonus points for [[VideoGame/FireEmblemElibe that other Roy]] remaining cut during the game's [[DownloadableContent (initial)]] release, leading to a lot of BaitAndSwitch jokes about Roy being included in the new Smash.
*** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/511-smashvotersmario/ This comic]], combined with the previously-mentioned Roy comic, now that Bowser Jr., Wario, and Roy are all in ''Smash 4''... but none of them were officially announced before the game's release on 3DS, as though their invitation letters took longer than usual to reach them due to their ballot votes either being crossed out or mailed to the wrong character.
*** Also amusing is the fact that the comic ends with Toad eagerly awaiting a phone call to join Smash. While he's still not a playable fighter in ''Ultimate'', he takes a much more active role as an AssistCharacter to Peach, helping with her grabs and pummels and willingly enacting her neutral special, as opposed to being held out in front of Peach as in prior games.
*** All the Smash Voter comics become a lot funnier thanks to the official ''Smash Bros.'' Fighter Ballot.
*** In "[[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/512-smashvotersfalcon/ Smash Voters: Captain Falcon]]", Samus is shown suspiciously erasing her vote when Captain Falcon asks her if she would vote for Ridley. Of course, her announcement trailer is the duo beating the ever loving crap out of each other.
*** In summary, every single character who received a vote (even a crossed-out or erased vote, such as Bowser Jr. or Ridley) in these comics ended up being playable in ''Ultimate''... except for Jody Summers/Samurai Goroh. Apparently, Captain Falcon's ballot got lost somewhere along the way.
** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/468-magictomes/ This comic]], now that Robin appears in ''Smash 4''... AND has breakable tomes that are also effective as thrown weapons, to boot!
** In [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/503-hoverkarts/ this comic]] he expresses how much ''Mario Kart'' is becoming more and more like ''F-Zero''. We now have two ''F-Zero'' tracks as DLC in ''VideoGame/MarioKart8'': Mute City in Pack 1, and Big Blue in Pack 2 (of course, that's without mentioning the series has had a Blue Falcon livery available for customization since ''VideoGame/MarioKartWii'').
*** Now with 200cc mode in ''Mario Kart 8'', Mario Kart's transformation into ''F-Zero'' is getting even closer.
** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/shave/ This early comic]] of Kirby changing from [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid Snake]] into [[VideoGame/StreetFighter Ryu]] and throwing a Hadouken is this, since Snake was cut from Smash 4 and Ryu has been added as a DLC character.
*** Even more so thanks to ''VideoGame/StreetFighterV''. Ryu now has a costume which has him sporting a BadassBeard.
*** Now in ''Super Smash Bros. Ultimate'', Kirby can change between Snake and Ryu on the fly, just like in this comic.
** The evolved forms Matt invents for [[VideoGame/PokemonXAndY Froakie and Fennekin]] [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/460-starters/ here]]. Not because of the sheer inaccuracy of it all (because he drew them before the full evolution families for the Kalos starters were unveiled), but because of how progressively ''uglier'' Fennekin's evolutions get, considering that Braixen and Delphox are actually at the other side of the spectrum. He does get the reactions to said evolutions correct though; Frogadier and Greninja became [[EnsembleDarkhorse Ensemble Darkhorses]] while Braixen and Delphox were a bit of a letdown, especially in regard to their movesets.
** "[[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/260-thecaptiveprincess/ The Captive Princess]]" shows Peach doing very well at escaping Bowser's castle by her own, at one point using a Fire Flower, before Mario arrives and she meets him to give him the satisfaction of "rescuing" her. In ''VideoGame/SuperMario3DWorld'', Peach is playable and can use the Fire Flower, and ''her dress becomes the same one she wears in [[VideoGame/SuperMarioBros1 her first appearance]]''. Looks like the comic was more accurate than it could have thought.
** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/24-winefortwo/ One early strip]] involves Kirby drinking poisoned wine and turning into a bottle of poison. Come ''VideoGame/KirbyPlanetRobobot'' and Poison is an official Kirby ability.
** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/happynewyear/ Peach's winter dress]] is strikingly similar to [[{{Disney/Frozen}} Elsa's]] coronation dress.
** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/275-hyperbeam/ The Hyper Beam gag]], after ''VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon'' introduced Z-Moves, which are about as [[ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill over the top]] as the comic portrayed the regular move Hyper Beam as being.
** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/250-cartoons/ This comic]] made a bunch of ArtShift jokes of Nintendo games mixed with a bunch of other cartoon shows, including a joke at the end of Link drawing the Master Sword out [[WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}} and then sleeping until the year 3000]]. Years after ''[=BitF=]'' ended, ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaBreathOfTheWild'' comes out, which opens with roughly the same idea.

*** Nana is teary-eyed as she celebrates having "a second chance". Given that the Ice Climbers were cut from ''3DS/Wii U'', their return in ''Ultimate'' really is a second chance that was celebrated by fans who missed their absence.
*** Snake is shown sneaking towards a sign reading "Private Tournament NO TRESPASSING". One might imagine that this sign was placed here to keep him out of ''3DS/Wii U'', but he ignored it and sneaked into ''Ultimate'' anyway.
*** Skull Kid, Geno, and Ridley are waiting in line, in that specific order. First, Skull Kid was confirmed as an Assist Trophy in ''3DS/Wii U''. Then, Geno became a DLC Mii Fighter costume. Then, Ridley was announced as a playable character for ''Ultimate''. That last one is especially funny, given the small, passionate blurb presumably written in the perspective of Matthew about Ridley having his chance one day.
*** Pichu is derisively referred to as one of the series's missteps. However, Pichu's inclusion in ''Ultimate'' hammers home the much-celebrated TagLine of "Everyone is Here!"; additionally, Pichu's design in ''Ultimate'' has been overhauled to make him [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap generally regarded as a far more useful and fun character to play as]], [[LethalJokeCharacter self-damage and all]].
** The part in [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/495-comicreviewe32013/ this]] comic where Pit tells Mega Man that now they just need to get [[Franchise/{{Castlevania}} Simon Belmont]], referring to ''WesternAnimation/CaptainNTheGameMaster'', has been answered by ''Ultimate'' with the addition of Simon Belmont.
** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/322-cocoonacademy10/ Part 10]] of the Cocoon Academy arc has Professor Oak comparing [[spoiler:Pinky's transformation into Meta Knight to the life cycle of a butterfly ("You've emerged from a cocoon and metamorphosed into a true knight!")]]. While this is clearly a nod to the school's name, [[spoiler:[[Creator/{{Nintendo}} Nintendo]] would [[https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/kirby/images/8/8e/Tumblr_m7xuylJqjO1ra4czto1_500.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120904211850&path-prefix=en reveal a concept design for Meta Knight]] during Kirby's 20th anniversary a year later, which is themed after butterflies. This design would then resurface five years after that as a [[BonusBoss secret boss]] in ''VideoGame/KirbyStarAllies'', approprately named Morpho Knight]].
** With the Grinch Leak (now turned out to be fake), the "Your aggravating antics even sicken Sakurai" in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mzUDUVnAqU "You're a mean King, Dedede"]] takes a whole new meaning. Even better, Dedede ends up meeting the [[VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountry "seasick crocodile"]] from the painting he stole in person. [[CurbStompBattle It doesn't go well for him.]]
** Taranto's choice to make Kirby and pals the de facto protagonists of a ''Smash'' comic, considering that ''Ultimate'''s "World of Light" story mode starts with Kirby on a quest to find the other fighters after [[spoiler:their swift and collective defeat by Galeem]].
** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/486-snakeman/ 486 - Snake Man]] features Mega Man gaining Solid Snake as a powerup upon defeating Snake Man. In ''Ultimate'', Snake is the puppet fighter used in Snake Man's Spirit Battle.
** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/270-hoodwinks/ 270 - Hoodwinks]] has Popo and Kirby prank Nana by having Kirby sit in Popo's hood. In ''Ultimate'', the Ice Climbers' Classic Mode [[https://www.ssbwiki.com/images/a/ad/SSBU_Congratulations_Ice_Climbers.png congratulations image]] has Kirby impersonating Nana the same way.
** The constant transformations in "Meet Me At Final Destination" are eerily reminiscent of the "Reanimated" trend on Website/YouTube.
** [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/379-1up/ One comic]] involves Mario getting salty over a "fake" 1-up, with the punchline being it's for ''Paper'' Mario. This basically predicted ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPaperJam''.
** The AltText for [[http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/comic/403-peachswarning/ 403 - Peach's Warning]] references [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Cloud]] in a crossover with Mario and Pit, several years before Cloud Strife was introduced to the ''Smash'' series.
