* ItsEasySoItSucks: Not many people like the [[ButtonMashing "move-practicing" aspect]] of the games. The series did move away from this starting with the UsefulNotes/PlayStation port of ''Bloody Roar''... only to fall straight back into it from the third game onward, culminating in ''Bloody Roar 4'', widely seen as the series' lowest point in this regard.

* ShippingGoggles: Thanks to Cronos affectionately stroking Uriko's face in her ''PR/Extreme'' ending (an act that causes an awkward reaction from both), quite a few people have misinterpreted the scene as something a bit more tender. In reality, he most likely mistook Uriko in her true form for that of [[MissingMom his mother]], tying into the aforementioned Uriko = Uranus = Cronos' mother theories.

* FranchiseOriginalSin: [[CharacterShilling The constant overexposure of a newcomer such as Nagi]] was not without precedent, as the previous games did the same with Xion, Cronos, and even Shenlong. It also should be noted that these original sins were purely on Creator/HudsonSoft, giving Creator/{{Konami}}, who published ''4'', vague impressions about what to do with the franchise after acquisiting Hudson Soft, factoring into ''4''[='s=] ultimate fate as a FranchiseKiller.

* HilariousInHindsight: The below-mentioned "WHAT DID YOU DO TO NAGI!?!?!?!" {{meme|ticMutation}} became this in 2021 with the release of ''VideoGame/ScarletNexus'', wherein male protagonist Yuito has adequate reason to shout this exact same line upon learning that [[spoiler:his older brother Kaito authorized his best friend Nagi to [[BrainwashedAndCrazy undergo personality rehabilation]] and [[FightingYourFriend fight against Yuito]]]]. Granted, this situation doesn't have its dramatic impact undermined by {{narm}}y voice acting and [[spoiler:tragically ends with the death of that particular Nagi]].

* EvilIsSexy:
** Xion and Uranus, though to call either of them outright "evil" [[AntiHero is a]] [[AntiVillain stretch]].
** Fox is also this. Some members of the male audience find him attractive [[EvenTheGuysWantHim even knowing he's]] ([[ShesAManInJapan originally]]) [[EvenTheGuysWantHim a guy]].

** Shenlong, mostly in his first appearance. [[CloningBlues An evil clone of Long]] who was NightmareFuel incarnate thanks to the story mode, and who played identically to Long from the first game. [[LighterAndSofter His appearances after the second game]] weren't as well-received, though some appreciated how his blood feud with Long [[WorthyOpponent mellowed out]] as well as his OddFriendship with none other than [[GenkiGirl Uriko]].

** The most prevalent of these are the connection between Uriko and Uranus, due to Uranus possessing the abilities Uriko had when she was the FinalBoss in ''1''. The common theories are that she's either [[MyFutureSelfAndMe Uriko from]] [[FutureMeScaresMe the future]] or [[CloningBlues a clone of Uriko]].

* TierInducedScrappy: Greg the Gorilla in the first game, who was hated by just about everyone who played it. [[ThisLooksLikeAJobForAquaman On the other hand]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGCK9gU7u_Q his throw proved to be decidedly useful against the final boss.]]

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Say what you want about the plot ripping off of ''ComicBook/XMen'' and ''Franchise/ResidentEvil'', but it was handed pretty well. Then came ''4'', which [[AbortedArc dropped]] the illegal Zoanthrope experimentation and strained human-Zoanthrope relations for... [[ItsALongStory some crap pertaining to the earth]].

** The same deal happened with Cronos with his unique Phoenix transformation in ''Primal Fury/Extreme'', who was a major player in many characters' scenarios. However, the old cast ''was still around and relevant'', with Cronos having interactions with half of them, and their individual plotlines weren't forgotten, although some newly introduced interactions might look like they came out of nowhere, like Cronos' relationship with Shina that is not elaborated upon.
