* {{Narm}}: [[Narm/BattlefieldEarth Has its own examples]], unsurprisingly.
* NauseaFuel: Given the amount of tilted camera shots, it's probably a good idea to avoid this movie if you suffer from motion sickness.

* VanityProject: The film is considered Travolta's baby through and through, with him sticking with the film through its DevelopmentHell, and using his post-''Film/PulpFiction'' CareerResurrection in order to get it bankrolled.

** The entire damned Psychlo race counts as this, having spent a millennium enslaving the Earth and still having ''zero'' understanding of the human race whatsoever. They even mused the possibility that ''dogs'' were the superior race, and even attempted to exploit them as ''slave labor''.
*** Their most egregious lapse in intelligence however has to be how in nearly a thousand years of mining for gold, they somehow never stumbled upon '''Fort Knox'''.

* HamAndCheeseHamAndCheese: Forest Whitaker appears to be the only actor in the entire movie to be aware of the kind of movie he's in and plays up the HamToHamCombat with John Travolta appropriately.

* IdiotPlot: Characters aren't making the wisest decisions in this film. Jonny's plan would have never worked under a competent boss that can notice things like the the smelted gold bricks that he and his people "mined". Thankfully, Terl is an idiotic moron who doesn't have any suspicions over any of that. In fact, his total greediness is what jumpstarts this idiot plot in the first place.

* IdiotPlot: Characters aren't making the wisest decisions in this film. Heck, the whole plot is kicked off, and Johnny's plan works, entirely because Terl is a greedy moron.

* VanityProject: To quote the other wiki: "Travolta, a long-time Scientologist, had sought for many years to make [[TheFilmOfTheBook a film of the novel]] by Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. He was unable to obtain funding from any major studio due to concerns about the film's script, prospects, and connections with Scientology, leaving the film in DevelopmentHell. The project was eventually taken on in 1998 by an independent production company, Franchise Pictures, which specialized in rescuing stars' stalled pet projects. Travolta signed on as a co-producer and contributed millions of dollars of his own money to the production, which was largely funded by a German film distribution company."
