* HolyShitQuotient: In ''Teamwork'' Chapter 17: the power goes out, the Draconids attack, [[spoiler:various members of the teams are revealed to be part of them]], a dimension seems to be opening and Ash is defeated.
** In ''Turbulence'', [[spoiler:Merle is revealed to be a Zoroark.]]
** ''Tribulations'' raises the stakes higher with [[spoiler:Ash's father coming back and dying, the villains being alternate versions of the heroes, Reeree's death and the reveal of the man who's been subtly influencing everything in the anime up to this point.]] Also, Alain ''loses'' in a fair fight.
** ''Tomorrow'' probably has the highest quantity of this in the series. From the very beginning, [[spoiler:Lionel is killed in an explosion]], Team Rocket makes moves as the villains, Nova Town is attacked ''thrice'', [[spoiler:Rocky dies, Deirdre is revealed to be Travis' mother, Matori of Team Rocket is revealed to have never been loyal to Team Rocket, and Mount Lanakila is blown up.]] The climax takes this UpToEleven with brutal fights, numerous [[CharacterDeath character deaths]], [[spoiler:Deirdre revealed to have been an illusion from the beginning and [[TheBadGuysWin IDEAL actually ''winning'']].]]

* TheScrappy: Tolbert, owing to [[spoiler:killing fan favorite Lionel, along with Rocky]] and acting smugly self-righteous the whole time.

* CrowningMomentOfAwesome: Ash-Greninja taking down Seamus' Alakazam on the final day of the Kalos Team Tournament.
** Bonnie having Dedenne use Nuzzle to [[spoiler:paralyze Rayquaza of all things]].
** Ash's final battle with Dalton. All of it.
** Sawyer vs. [[spoiler:alter!Paul]].
** Ash vs. Gladion [[spoiler:in the finals of the Alola League]]. Particularly Pikachu vs. Silvally, [[spoiler: complete with an epic collision of Corkscrew Crash and 10 Million Volt Thunderbolt.]]
** Ash vs. Guzma in ''Tenacity''. [[spoiler:After 2 stories of Guzma thrashing Ash, the latter finally gets the upper hand and defeats Guzma with a barrage of Scorching Shuriken from Greninja.]]

* FridgeBrilliance: The reveal that [[spoiler: Merle was a Zoroark all along]] made many a reader take a second look at all the hints given along the way to show that they all made sense.
** The ''Alola Trilogy'' pretty much seems to just be an adventure in the style of the anime with some of the series' other hallmarks...until about halfway through one realizes that the entire trilogy is really the characters dealing with the PTSD that the ''Kalos Trilogy'' inflicted on them.
** The Pikashunium-Z showing off Ho-oh's colors and [[spoiler:Ash connecting his dream to the day he saw Ho-oh, allowing it to manifest. It's later used by Ash as proof of needing to earn Ho-oh's power.]]

* The Scrappy: Tolbert, owing to [[spoiler:killing fan favorite Lionel, along with Rocky]] and acting smugly self-righteous the whole time.

* MagnificentBastard: [[spoiler:Michael]] for manipulating everyone's pain, the League's actions and numerous other characters all to achieve the end result that he wanted.

** Kahili. For an empty character in the games, her BloodKnight and blunt tendencies, along with becoming a mentor to Ash, made her rather popular.

* CompleteMonster: [[spoiler:Michael]] very quickly became this amongst the fans. [[spoiler:From him callously brushing his own daughter's death off, caring little for his suboordinates, wishing to destroy the main world because he finds it worthless and manipulating the past antagonists' pain to suit his own ends, very little cared for what his goal was and rejoiced when he died.]]

* TakeThatScrappy: Many a fan rejoiced when they thought [[spoiler:Travis had been killed.]]

* WinBackTheCrowd: In a sense. Epicocity's works hadn't been doing as well as his past fics until these were widely well-received in the Amourshipping and Pokemon anime community.
