Is this behaviour due to her child having a kind of DemonicPossession effect on her psychically, or is it indicative that she's fallen into a kind of proxy StockholmSyndrome?

* UnintentionallySympathetic: [[PosthumousCharacter Emma Russell]] briefly in Chapter 12; ''not'' in terms of how vile her methodology for trying to save the world was, but in terms of her inaction against Jonah after the latter threatened to have Madison's throat slit, which Madison brings up in the present in Chapter 12. Emma standing by and doing nothing is made out by Madison and Mark to be Emma endangering Madison via inaction, but anyone who's read the scene from the ''King of the Monsters'' novelization to which Madison is referring will know that Emma was doing nothing ''because'' Jonah made it clear to them that Emma's inaction was the only thing keeping his men from delivering on that threat.

* CreatorBreakdown: Hrodvitnon worked on the ''Abraxas: Empty Fullness'' one-shot "[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/46831738/chapters/117962629 Sermones ad Mortuos]]" partly as a coping mechanism after the death of a family-member.

** The concept of reptilian humanoids (born from Ghidorah's flesh no less) walking amongst humanity in secret while remaining beneath suspicion, which was first seriously hinted at in Chapter 13, becomes a lot funnier following the release of ''Godzilla vs. Kong'', where a {{conspiracy theorist}} believes that the movie's human villains whom are harnessing Ghidorah's remains are connected to the ReptilianConspiracy.

** In San's memories of encountering the ancient Bone Singer, when the past San is joining his brothers in insisting there's no hope for the Bone Singer and he's asking questions about the possibility the Bone Singer is wrong, is this the pre-Vivienne San just trying to indulge his sadistic pleasure by being a rhetorical HopeCrusher like his brothers are, or is he genuinely questioning the Bone Singer's statements out of curious inquiry whilst repeating the beliefs that his eons as part of Ghidorah have made him regard are fact? Considering San's pre-CharacterDevelopment personality, San-2/Youngest Brother's characterization, and the way ''King of the Monsters'' originally characterized San; maybe it's a bit of both?

** San too. Interestingly, even before his HeelRealization, he fails to quite qualify as a JerkassWoobie; since he genuinely doesn't understand why his actions make his new sister (who he's genuinely protective and nurturing towards) so upset, and literally everyone he kills inbetween the fic's beginning and his Heel Realization was not only an AssholeVictim but he only attacked them after they provoked him. (Although San-2/Youngest Brother's behavior demonstrates that San very much had the potential to be a Jerkass Woobie if the right circumstances had arisen before his CharacterDevelopment began.) Anyway, San and his brothers already share a CryForTheDevil origin story, and suffice to say that San didn't get treated well by his sociopathic brothers, especially since he was practically the TokenGoodTeammate of them; being utterly starved of affection and abused by Ichi and Ni whenever he got curious, for ''billions of years''. Then when San gets separated from his brothers and he fuses with a new, non-cruel sibling in the form of Vivienne, she at first is reluctant to trust let alone be affectionate with him to his dismay, and he shares in most if not all of her TraumaCongaLine over the story. [[spoiler:It doesn't stop for San after the fic's ending for San either: one of the first and closest mother figures he's had in his eons-long life dies just months after he started getting to know her, and the fact that he's unused to feeling grief after having been part of Ghidorah for eons until recently only makes the loss even ''harder'' for him]].

** Somewhat. It's open to interpretation in the film whether Vivienne was instantly crushed when Ghidorah's jaws shut around her, was crushed to death with the ice a few seconds later or went down Ghidorah's oesophagus still alive. In this fic, it's confirmed by Vivienne's flashbacks it was the latter.
** The fic does this for Serizawa's HeroicSacrifice in the movie and [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] it. It's suggested in [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13357907/11 Chapter 11]] that he was motivated not just by the necessity of reviving Godzilla, but also partly by the hope he'd be with Vivienne again in death. But she was actually being slowly brought back to life the entire time, so his sacrifice instead cut off their chances of ever seeing each-other again in the same life.

** Hell, the [=MonsterVerse's=] entire [[spoiler:RunningGag of San losing his head]] becomes this in light of what happens to Monster X in Chapter 16.

** In a slightly twisted way, San's reaction to watching Ghidorah's middle head eat Vivienne in ''Film/GodzillaKingOfTheMonsters2019'' (San's head is leaning in close and chirping softly while Ichi eats her) becomes this. Whereas in the film it looks like San is being ObsessedWithFood and futilely asking for scraps from his brother before he turns his attention to making pickings out of the other humans; in this story's context, it seems more like the pre-CharacterDevelopment San is appeased that his favorite human is now with him and soon to become like him, and it's as if his chirps are him murmuring soothingly to her.

** If Jonah doesn't cross it by using Viv and San as guinea pigs for testing ammunition due to their HealingFactor, then he definitely crosses it when it's revealed in Chapter 6 that he's been [[spoiler:using the mercenaries' refugee labor as unwilling test-subjects for experiments with Ghidorah's DNA which has essentially turned them into {{Artificial Zombie}}s]]. Vivienne certainly feels the latter is Jonah's absolute MEH InUniverse.
** With Ghidorah (San's brothers Ichi and Ni), it's definitely not a case of if but ''when'' they cross it. It's revealed in Chapter 8 that they destroyed numerous inhabited alien worlds before arriving on Earth (this could be considered an MEH for Ichi/Eldest Brother as the trio's leader); it's later revealed that [[spoiler:not only are San's regenerating brothers aware of the Many but they're actively ''exploiting'' the walking, spreading FateWorseThanDeath; probably the latest possible crossing is when Ghidorah gleefully allows [=MaNi=] to inflict ColdBloodedTorture on Viv and San]].
** The absolute latest possible MEH crossing for [=MaNi=]/Elder Brother is just one chapter after he was introduced as an autonomous creature; when he [[spoiler:mercilessly and ferociously tortures Vivienne while using RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil psychology, and he attempts to murder San in front of her in the same way that Ichi originally killed Vivienne]].

* TakeThatScrappy: Emma Russell posthumously remains unforgiven by Vivienne and her own daughter especially for her actions. In Chapter 12, Madison and Mark's criticisms of her actions subtly include things that audiences found made Emma UnintentionallyUnsympathetic or downright detestable in ''Film/GodzillaKingOfTheMonsters2019''.
* UnexpectedCharacter: The Skullcrawlers making an appearance was quite a surprise to a few readers.

** San too. * BetterThanCanon: Thanks to the characterization the Titans receive, the CharacterDevelopment undergone by Viv and San throughout the story, better-realized human characters, and well-executed action sequences (among other things), there are some readers who consider ''Abraxas'' to be superior to ''Film/GodzillaVsKong'' as a follow-up to ''Godzilla: King of the Monsters'', to the point that some wish ''Abraxas'' was canon to the Franchise/MonsterVerse itself.

* SalvagedStory:
** A lot of Franchise/MonsterVerse viewers were unimpressed at how the films squandered Creator/SallyHawkins[='=] role; portraying her as a pale SatelliteCharacter of Serizawa and regulating her characterization as anything beyond that strictly to the supplementary materials, before Vivienne was abruptly killed off in a less-than-reverent and plot-irrelevant manner in ''King of the Monsters''. This fic reveals at the beginning that Vivienne is alive and slowly being metamorphosed inside San's decapitated head, because Ghidorah actually had bigger plans for her than just a quick snack when it ate her; and she is one of the fic's two main protagonists.
** ''King of the Monsters'' was also criticized for killing off Serizawa, with many feeling it was too soon, that it squandered the character's potential, and that on top of the film killing off Vivienne as mentioned above it was like the film was cutting the [=MonsterVerse=] off from its roots in ''Film/Godzilla2014'' by killing off the humans from that film. While Serizawa is indeed dead in this fic [[spoiler:as the identity we knew]], he is a significant PosthumousCharacter throughout, [[spoiler:and it's [[MaybeMagicMaybeMundane heavily implied]] that Manda might be Serizawa's amnesiac {{reincarnation}}]].
** Some ''King of the Monsters'' viewers, the author included, found Mark Russell's {{jerkass}} attitude insufferable even if they understood where he was coming from, and the fact that Vivienne's above-discussed death in the film occurred partly because of his misfortune and her kindness in the downed Osprey probably didn't do him any favors among those detractors. In this fic, it's shown that after the movie's ending, Mark is haunted by his perceived accidental role in Vivienne's death and has SurvivorGuilt over it, which is compounded by a large portion of the Monarch staff who liked Vivienne [[YouShouldHaveDiedInstead silently resenting that he didn't die in her place]]. Mark's attitude problems and lingering character flaws also catch up to him in a couple other ways, with Mariko giving him a [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech brutal dressing-down]] the moment he starts having another MisdirectedOutburst like in the film. Even Mark himself makes some self-disparaging remarks about his behavior during the movie early on in the fic.
** Emma Russell was probably the [=MonsterVerse's=] biggest Base-Breaking Character as well as it's most UnintentionallyUnsympathetic, widely reviled for her monstrous {{doublethink}} in "honoring" her late son's death in a Titan attack by knowingly engineering many more Titan attacks which will cause millions more children's deaths and grieving families, and for her MoralMyopia in sentencing any and everyone she cared about who wasn't Madison (including Vivienne and even Madison's father) to die. [[HatesTheirParent Madison]], Mark, [[EtTuBrute Vivienne]] and the other people whom Emma was once close friends and family with now at best think of her morosely or at worst they despise her after knowing what she did; calling her out on the above problems that the movie's viewers had with her, and at least some of them think (like the ''King of the Monsters'' audience did) that Emma's HeroicSacrifice doesn't clear her of all the atrocities she committed over the course of the film. The thought of being like her mother is enough to make Madison freeze up in fear for a moment.

** A lot of Franchise/MonsterVerse viewers were unimpressed at how the films squandered Creator/SallyHawkins[='=] role; reserving most of Vivienne's characterization beyond her being a pale SatelliteCharacter of Serizawa strictly for the supplementary materials, before Vivienne was killed off in a less-than-reverent and plot-irrelevant manner in ''King of the Monsters''. This fic reveals at the beginning that Vivienne is alive and slowly being metamorphosed inside San's decapitated head, because Ghidorah actually had bigger plans for her when it ate her, and she's one of the two main protagonists.

** The Russian military are portrayed as intelligent badasses whom are much more competent in a Kaiju battle than the U.S. military in [=MonsterVerse=] canon ever was. Fast-forward to the year after the fic's completion, and the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_Russian_invasion_of_Ukraine Russian war on Ukraine]] has shattered the Russian military's international image as one of the most effective militaries in the world as their many shortcomings and inadequacies came to light amidst the conflict. Maybe "Hilarious" isn't the most appropriate word to use whilst the war is ongoing, but it's certainly Ironic in Hindsight.

** The ''Godzilla vs. Kong'' {{novelization}} upped the above, bearing some '''striking''' similarities to plot elements of ''Abraxas'' that were posted months before the novel came out. The novelization too opened up with criminals taking up residence in an abandoned complex in [[spoiler:Russian]] territory and looking to inhumanely take advantage of a captured Titan (and a former Monarch operative is among their number in both stories no less). The novel also happened to feature a Monarch operative who survived the destruction of not just any one of the seventeen-plus outposts during the Mass Awakening but ''Outpost 58'' specifically! One has to wonder if great ''Godzilla''-fan minds really think alike or if Greg Keyes[[note]]The ''Godzilla vs. Kong'' novelization's author[[/note]] was reading ''Abraxas'' online while he worked on the novelization.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** The [=MonsterVerse's=] canon has been criticized for [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter doing barely anything with Vivienne's character before she was killed off in an unceremonious manner]], plus her characterization was largely confined to the supplementary and spin-off materials. ** Another criticism of ''Godzilla vs. Kong'' was Mark's HotBlooded and less-than-reasonable reaction to Godzilla's rampage, which seemed to some viewers like AesopAmnesia after the events of ''King of the Monsters'' and did nothing to endear him to many of his detractors. But watching [[spoiler:[=MaNi's=] [[SmallNameBigEgo big ego]] shatter and his formerly nigh-impenetrable mania collapsing into panic and despair when Monster X is doing to [=MaNi=] just what [=MaNi=] tried to do to San]] is by far the crux of the catharsis.

* JerksAreWorseThanVillains: Alan Jonah is a calm SmugSnake who basically orchestrates experiments that would probably make UsefulNotes/JosefMengele look forward to seeing him in Hell, and he previously caused millions of deaths around the world with his actions before the fic's start; Ghidorah is 2/3 a [[TheSociopath Sociopathic]] OmnicidalManiac which has literally wiped entire worlds clean of life before coming to Earth to do the same to us, nevermind its plans to break down and torture Vivienne ''horrendously''; and [=MaNi=]/Elder Brother is a part-Ghidorah, part-Many monster whose lack of wits and gleeful propensity for inflicting only the most heinous forms of ColdBloodedTorture on Viv and San arguably makes him the single biggest HateSink in the entire story. But all three of these antagonists, '''even [=MaNi=]'''; even if they all have a bit of Hate Sink to them, their personalities and [=MaNi's=] design at least make them ''memorable'', unlike... Who was he again? Oh yeah, Guard B-04, who is accurately described by Vivienne as nothing more than a juvenile thug -- compared to the above three monsters, his only onscreen crimes amount to viciously and crudely heckling Vivienne for his own amusement whilst she's in no position to fight back, and ''mocking a little girl's grief at her HonoraryAunt[='s=] death''; basically he's that dickless prick who everyone in RealLife probably encountered at some point in high school. As such, it's difficult to feel much sympathy for B-04 when San finally puts a ''permanent'' end to the former's cruel antics.
* LoveToHate: San's two brothers (especially Ichi/Eldest Brother, the middle head) remain just as sociopathic and monstrously cruel here as the Golden Demise has ever been; but this fic also delves more into the three heads' independent personalities and abusive codependent relationships with each-other, and it provides a FreudianExcuse expansion of Ghidorah's backstory, giving Ghidorah a lot of new character depth. It probably also makes Ichi and Ni interesting and rewatchable (re-readable) villains that they display distinct personalities and speech patterns with their AnimalTalk translated, including in Ichi's case a sophisticated sense of FauxAffablyEvil. This is in addition to Ghidorah exhibiting EldritchAbomination levels of EvilIsCool throughout the story, including a BrownNote effect, MasterOfYourDomain and the creation of [[UndeadAbomination the Many]]. At the same time, reading Ichi and Ni relentlessly and horrifically pull out any stops to [[spoiler:try and push Vivienne down a StartOfDarkness, even if that means murdering their own Youngest Brother's 'shed skin' without remorse, and also reading their plot to torment as many of their foes as possible with the deaths or [[FateWorseThanDeath worse]] of their loved ones before putting said foes in the ground]], makes us root against Ichi and Ni and look forward to their downfall.

** Ghidorah [[spoiler:pre-mortem and post-resurrection]] has a lot of subtext in this category towards Vivienne, as described under DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything on the main page. What really makes it worse is when [[spoiler:Ghidorah intends to forcibly use Monster X as a monster-spawning BabyFactory]] just to make Vivienne scream. That Ghidorah's [[spoiler:heads]] all consider the transformed Vivienne their sister ''and'' their daughter while doing this, and that a "shed skin" version of Ichi and Ni's ''born and raised'' brother San is the other half of Monster X's body, [[VillainousIncest only adds to the horror]].

* OneTrueThreesome: The author herself seems to have this. She's given both Godzilla/Mothra and Godzilla/Vivienne ShipTease in the story and on her Tumblr in regards to it (it's implied Titans are no stranger to open relationships or polyamory), in addition to the more prominent Rodan/Monster X Ship Tease. Both threesome-pairings respectively are showing quite a bit of traction if the number of [=AbraxasVerse=]-related Asks on the author's Tumblr referring to them is any indication.

Their entire purpose during the story is to run afoul of a monstrosity so bad that it sends even ''[[HorrifyingTheHorror them]]'' fleeing in the opposite direction (not that that does them much good), and spend the rest of the story as victims of said monstrosity's nightmarish FateWorseThanDeath enslaved to [[spoiler:the Many]]'s will. Not to mention getting round up and used as cannon fodder by Project Talos.

** Was [[spoiler:Sergeant Travis' suicide]] a DyingAsYourself, or purely something his advanced SanitySlippage forced him to?
** Tejada aiding the torch-and-bury operation after being apprehended: how much is she doing it voluntarily out of the goodness of her heart and how much of it is her pragmatically gaining leverage for a plea deal and/or commuted sentence for her crimes? Likewise with Mariko's cooperation with Monarch.

* HoYay: Anyone who FoeYay ships Ghidorah and Rodan based on ''King of the Monsters'' will likely enjoy reading San and Rodan's mutual displays of animosity towards each-other in this fic which can be easily interpreted as having the potential to veer into BelligerentSexualTension.

** The fic does this for Serizawa's HeroicSacrifice in the movie and [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] it. ** The ''Godzilla vs. Kong'' {{novelization}} upped the above, bearing some '''striking''' similarities to plot elements of ''Abraxas'' that were posted months before the novel came out. In the ''Godzilla vs. Kong'' novelization, the [=MonsterVerse=] version of Ren is a GodhoodSeeker who actively ''wants'' to use San's head to wield a Titan's power through Mechagodzilla, but he only gets to do it briefly before the head in question kills him (or, in his novelization DiesDifferentlyInAdaptation, it seemingly grants Ren's wish by incorporating him into Mechagodzilla's consciousness at the price of digesting away Ren's identity).

** Mechagodzilla's introductory scene in ''Godzilla vs. Kong'' becomes this in light of the FinalBattle in ''Abraxas''. As such, it's difficult to feel much sympathy for B-04 when San finally puts a 'permanent' end to the former's cruel antics.

Their entire purpose during the story is to run afoul of a monstrosity so bad that it sends even ''[[HorrifyingTheHorror them]]'' fleeing in the opposite direction (not that that does them much good), and spend the rest of the story as victims of said monstrosity's nightmarish FateWorseThanDeath enslaved to [[spoiler:the Many]]'s will. Not to mention getting round up and used as cannon fodder by Project Talos.

What really makes it worse is when [[spoiler:Ghidorah intends to forcibly use Monster X as a monster-spawning BabyFactor]] just to make Vivienne scream. That Ghidorah's [[spoiler:heads]] all consider the transformed Vivienne their sister ''and'' their daughter while doing this, and that a "shed skin" version of Ichi and Ni's ''born and raised'' brother San is the other half of Monster X's body, [[VillainousIncest only add new dimensions of horror]].

This is in addition to Ghidorah exhibiting EldritchAbomination levels of EvilIsCool throughout the story, including a BrownNote effect, MasterOfYourDomain and the creation of [[UndeadAbomination the Many]].
