After that reveal, it's hard to not feel for the guy, especially with the harsh comments people can make about him in early supports.]]

Plus she had to grow up earlier to take care of her younger siblings and toughen up despite being a very sensitive girl. [[spoiler:And at the end of the route, she's forced to take a throne she didn't want after both her brothers die in the war.]]

Plus she had to grow up earlier to take care of her younger siblings and toughen up despite being a very sensitive girl. ** Ryoma is an IronWoobie on ''Conquest''. He's so deeply hurt by the Avatar's choice that it makes him angry, and it's clear he never developed the coping skills Xander did due to living a more or less charmed life aside from the deaths of all three of his parental figures. [[spoiler:And in the chapter where the Avatar crosses blades with him, they lie and claim they killed Hinoka, causing the normally collected Ryoma to ''completely break down'' and show hatred towards the Avatar for the first time.]]
** Sakura in ''Conquest'' is the only sibling who doesn't hold a grudge against the Avatar for choosing Nohr and expresses deep sadness if they fight her in chapter 22. She's so upset she refuses to eat or speak to anyone until the end of the game.

** Maribelle is this and a JerkassWoobie. She's prickly and snobbish, but as a child this caused all the other children to hate her and spread rumors about her. She was terribly lonely until Lissa reached out to her.
** Sumia has next to no self-esteem, to the point where she loses herself in books so she doesn't have to think about how pathetic she feels. She tries her best to help everyone out, but her clumsiness usually makes things worse and she usually ends up in tears.
** Virion. We are first introduced to him as a womazining braggart that most characters treat with contempt. Not only do his supports reveal he is one of the nicest guys there is, if only a braggart, but he also [[spoiler: was forced to surrender his land of Rosanne to Walhart's conquest because his people were ready to fight Walhart for him but he knew that doing so would send them to certain death, leaving him with the choice of surrendering and running away to live for another day and rally up allies to stop Walhart, or stand his ground and watch his people die. After that reveal, it's hard to not feel for the guy, especially with the harsh comments people can make about him in early supports.]]

** Flora, a NinjaMaid, hasn't led an easy life. Her father ignored her in favor of her sister Felicia, who could use weapons better, and harbors feelings for a man whom she can't even support with. [[spoiler:But that's nothing compared to her fate in the ''Birthright'' route, where her loyalty to her tribe leads her to backstab her sister and the Avatar, only to regret her decision so much she ''commits suicide by lighting herself on fire''. Thankfully, she suffers less in the ''Conquest'' route and the third path.]]

The reanimated corpse of her husband Sumeragi, being controlled by her former lover Anankos.]]

This resulted in him being put in an orphanage where he was bullied for his feminine appearance. He later served as a retainer of House Cornwell, although the Marquess and his wife were assassinated, driving their son and Lucius's closest friend, Raymond, to be driven by madness.]] While Lucius does earn a happy ending of either opening up his own orphanage or travelling the continent with Raven, [[DoomedByCanon ''The Binding Blade'' indicates that the owner of the Araphen orphanage has been killed by invaders...]]

** Jill is a tragic case of MyCountryRightOrWrong. She was taught in Daein schools at a young age when her father left Begnion due to the corrupt senators that laguz (demi-humans with the power to shift into animals) were to be known as sub-humans and that they were savage beasts who's very existence threatened the beorc (humans). When chasing down the Crimean army, she realizes the error of her ways from her supports with Mist and Lethe. Then, in Daein she has to watch her countrymen being slaughtered by her new allies, the struggles of the poor people of Talrega who just lost their land, who give her a pittance of Gold they saved up just to rescue her as her father is something of a hero to them and was killed by the Crimeans who want to end the war with minimal casualties. If you bring her to the Defending Talrega Chapter where you fight her dad, she will change sides and you will have to kill her or talk to her with an A support Mist or Lethe in order to get her to change her mind. Her only close friends are Ike and Mist (and later Lethe if you get them an A support) as she has a hard time fitting in with Lethe and other laguz initially not trusting her due to her Daein roots which she couldn't do a thing about. What's worse is that not only does her dad go off the deep end by opening the floodgates which cause massive damage to the Talrega region, but later on, in Radiant Dawn [[spoiler: she's part of the defense of Prince Pelleas who wants to get the horrible Begnion Occupation Army out of Daein, has to fight her uncle and [[WifeHusbandry implied love interest]] [[BadassPacifist Haar]] and stays with the Daein army provided you don't have an A support carried over from Path of Radiance with her, or Haar in your current group until the final part where she sees just how vile the Begnion senators were and compared to living there, her father must have thought that Daein seemed like a paradise compared to Begnion.]]

** ''Seisen no Keifu'': Azel, Midayle, Tinny. Tiltyu after the events between the first and second halves.
*** Tailto: Starts out as a super cheery, devil-may-care GenkiGirl that has the markings of a PluckyGirl. The pluckiness starts to shatter the instant her father brands her a traitor along with Sigurd and she felt that only her childhood friend Azel is the one she can turn to. It breaks again when confronting her father and eventually losing contact with her husband after the Battle of Belhalla. Then [[spoiler:she gets kidnapped with her infant daughter Teeny to Freege, losing contact with her son Arthur, and [[BreakTheCutie broken beyond belief]] due to the torture and abuse of [[EvilMatriarch Hilda]] just to protect little Teeny that [[KillTheCutie she degenerated into a depressed woman that dies losing her will to live]]. And possibly, she gets turned into the Deadlord Anguilla afterwards, seeing that Anguilla has both minor Tordo blood and the spellbook Tailto had in the beginning: Thoron. [[PlayerPunch Damn it.]]]]

[[spoiler:The prospect of being kidnapped since infant age, seeing her mother die protecting her and spending the rest of her childhood taking further abuses by Hilda now that Tailto is gone (like being called 'traitor's daughter'), and Bloom still acting like a controlling uncle instead of protecting her... it's not doing any favors for Teeny's insecure self. It was a good thing that there were some kind souls like Ishtar and Ishtore to prevent her going off the rockers.]] The same also applies for Linda, who takes Teeny's role if Talito died or had no children.

Other children may have their noble upbringing (Ced/Fee), being in an OrphanageOfLove (Seliph & co, Faval/Patty, Leen), be in good retainer/parent's hands (Leif, Nanna, Julia (yes, Arvis and Deirdre were very kind to her before things went to hell)), or be HappilyAdopted (Corple). Arthur only had a stranger old lady that picked him up and the rest, he had to fend for himself since young age, [[StoicWoobie shaping up his 'cold' self as mentioned]].]]

It is revealed through support conversations that their various quirks and personalities are just what they used to survive their CrapsackWorld of a future. Some even openly admit that their surface actions are just a mask to hide the pain and grief from their comrades.
*** But this is not to say that the First Generation lacks of woobie moments. '''At all'''. Almost all of them either had {{dark and troubled past}}s (especially Henry and Libra), or difficult presents (e.g. Cordelia, Chrom, Lissa, and [[spoiler:[[ApocalypseMaiden Robin/The Avatar]]]]) that get worse and worse as time passes. And then they learn about their future kids's hardships as well...

** All of the children definitely qualify, being born during the bad timeline where most of their parents die is enough to feel sorry for them. The Future Past DLC, however, turns this UpToEleven.

*** Yarne, Panne's son, has the responsibilities of being the [[LastOfTheirKind last of his kind]] weigh far heavier on him and has some [[NervousWreck serious courage issues]]. [[spoiler: Having grown up in a BadFuture and having your father break his promise of returning from battle will do that to you]].
*** Morgan probably has it better than the other children, due to their origins being such a mystery, but it's still saddening that they don't remember their non-Avatar parent. In their A support with said parent, Morgan breaks down crying when they can't remember their parent. [[spoiler:According to their ending, they never even recover their memories, though it's said Morgan doesn't particularly mind]].
*** From the first generation there's also Ricken, a boy from an impoverished noble family who's been heavily bullied and has trouble being taken seriously by those he admires due to his age and height.
*** Tiki and Nowi are both manaketes who live for thousands of years. Nowi is well aware she'll outlive everyone she loves and is shown to cry about it, while Tiki has sadly come to accept this fact despite memories of how painful it was to lose Marth and the others and knowing she'll outlive Say'ri and anyone else she befriends.

** ''Fates'' carries on the tradition:
*** Flora, a NinjaMaid, hasn't led an easy life. Her father ignored her in favor of her sister Felicia, who could use weapons better, and harbors feelings for a man whom she can't even support with. [[spoiler:But that's nothing compared to her fate in the ''Birthright'' route, where her loyalty to her tribe leads her to backstab her sister and the Avatar, only to regret her decision so much she ''commits suicide by lighting herself on fire''. Thankfully, she suffers less in the ''Conquest'' route and the third path.]]

The worst part is that she's obviously suffering a lot of heartbreak of you not joining Hoshido and is easily the most reluctant to fight you similar to Elise. Plus she had to grow up earlier to take care of her younger siblings and toughen up despite being a very sensitive girl. [[spoiler:And at the end of the route, she's forced to take a throne she didn't want after both her brothers die in the war.]]
*** Ryoma is an IronWoobie on ''Conquest''. He's so deeply hurt by the Avatar's choice that it makes him angry, and it's clear he never developed the coping skills Xander did due to living a more or less charmed life aside from the deaths of all three of his parental figures. [[spoiler:And in the chapter where the Avatar crosses blades with him, they lie and claim they killed Hinoka, causing the normally collected Ryoma to ''completely break down'' and show hatred towards the Avatar for the first time.]]
