* Conceived as something akin to "Pee-wee Herman in Hell" (according to Sean Scott), this show was originally going to be a BlackComedy aimed at the 11-15 audience, much like some other Creator/{{Teletoon}} originals of the late 2000s, like the ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'' series. Teletoon had completely okayed the pitch concept, but when Creator/DisneyXD entered the picture, they demanded that changes be made to make the series more acceptable for broader audiences.
** Miseryville would have explicitly been Hell rather than an implication, and there would have been many other humans beyond Jimmy and Heloise, albeit mainly stereotypical evildoers like mad scientists, criminals, and {{Dastardly Whiplash}}es. Demons and monsters would still have been a part of the setting, although they would not have been the sole inhabitants of the city and the one-off weirdness seen in the show like talking animals and objects would have been wholly absent.
** Jimmy would have died from being hit by a bus after helping an old lady cross the street and ended up in Hell thanks to [[CelestialBureaucracy an administrative error]] when St. Peter mistook the footage for him pickpocketing her. His DeadToBeginWith status would have allowed him to do some morbid things, like pull bones out of his body (though he actually does pull the bone out of one of his arms in "Monster Mutt") and unscrew the top of his head. He also wore a completely different costume, having a brown shirt and a bowtie instead of his green t-shirt. [[http://adorablyrotten.tumblr.com/post/49611405645/these-sketches-in-particular-i-remember-as-being See some concept art here.]]
** Heloise would have been a SerialKiller instead of a MadScientist. Proposed ideas for the cause of her death included being hit by the same bus as Jimmy or shot in the head by the police, the latter allegedly being the origin of the head scar in her character design. She would have been TheDreaded in Hell, and Lucius would arrange for her to be Jimmy's tormentor, only for her to fall in love with him. She was also intended to be even less mentally stable than in the final product, flip-flopping between loving Jimmy and torturing him. She also had a more ghoulish appearance with corpse-coloured skin.

** Due to the lack of early concept art relating to Beezy, many fans believe that he wasn't originally part of the show's cast and was only added at a stage that greater resembled what the show would eventually become. However, the discovery of [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/early_beezy_concept.jpg this image]] from the infamous pilot, which noticeably depicts Beezy with different-patterned shorts, proves otherwise. However, he was completely identical to the character seen in the final version in both personality and role, although he was instead referred to as {{Beelzebub}}.

* There were plans for Lucius I to appear on the show, with Edward Kay saying it could potentially be the plot for a movie.

** Lucius would have explicitly been {{Satan}}, with "Lucy" being short for "Lucifer". Also, he originally had a stereotypical devil tail, his suit was brown instead of black, and he had normal feet instead of hooves. Concepts of him, Jimmy, and Heloise can be seen [[http://adorablyrotten.tumblr.com/post/49610989533/some-of-you-may-know-this-show-by-its-somewhat here]].

** Jez was first conceptualized as Lucius' wife and Beezy's mother, while early versions of Cerbee looked more like an actual dog (albeit with three heads). [[http://genalovestoons.tumblr.com/post/49614307671/adorablyrotten-some-character-concepts See here.]]
* Creator/{{Brian Froud|Actor}} stated in [[http://thecartoonkids.tumblr.com/post/54372566263 an interview on the podcast "The Cartoon Kids"]] that he had originally auditioned for the voice of Lucius, but was given Beezy at the last second.
* A third season was announced, but never made, because Creator/DisneyXD opted out of the deal to fund it.
* There were plans for Lucius I to appear on the show, with Edward Kay saying it could potentially be the plot for a movie.
