After his tribe of herbivorous dinosaurs moves to the carnivore-free Peaceful Valley in the first film, the young brontosaurus Littlefoot and his friends chase after a pair of dangerous dinosaurs stealing an egg from the village. While running, they accidentally cause a landslide that opens up their home to outsiders. When the egg they bring back and hatch reveals not one of their own, but a carnivorous tyrannosaurus, the youngsters decide to secretly raise it. The film was released on December 23, 1994.

* BigShadowLittleCreature: In fact, this actually saved his friends from Ozzy and Strut. They eventually wised up, although by that point they were too late as Chomper's parents were still in the Great Valley. It was also used earlier in the second film when Strut saw the main characters' shadows and thought they were full grown adults. "Very Big."

* EvilEggEater: The first sequel, The Great Valley Adventure, has a pair of Struthiomimus, named Ozzie and Strut, as the villains. They have their own VillainSong about it, simply titled "Eggs."

* LamePunReaction: When they arrive at the Great Valley after a long trek, one of the egg-stealing dinos in the second film says that he's just "egg-xausted". His partner kicks him in the face in response.

* QuicksandSucks: Littlefoot and his friends almost drowns in the tar pit sinking sands trying to reach the sheltering grass.
* OffModel: An unfortunate side effect from outsourcing to South Korea and Taiwan. However, the later films by Wang do see a (slight) uptick in quality as the series goes on as opposed to AKOM's, which go the opposite direction.
* OneSteveLimit: Averted in the case of the term "Sharptooth". Not only is it the name of the Big Bad of the original movie, the term is also used to specifically describe Tyrannosaurus Rexes, and is a general term for carnivores, meaning the following is a valid sentence: "Sharptooth is a Sharptooth, which makes him a Sharptooth."

* LighterAndSofter: Pretty much every dark, bleak, and/or frightening aspect of the original film is absent here. Even the color palette is brighter.

** Invoked particularly hard with Littlefoot's grandparents, who have lost their only daughter. In the second movie, while lecturing Littlefoot on the importance of being careful, they flat out tell him "you are all we have."

* FailedASpotCheck: When the gang bring back the big egg to Ducky's nest, they find that the first egg is already returned to it's nest and they're left with the second remaining larger egg.

* CousinOliver: Done with Chomper.

* ThisIsGonnaSuck: Cera going "Oh no..." when the rain starts pouring in the Mysterious Beyond.

* FailedACheckSpot: When the gang bring back the big egg to Ducky's nest, they find that the first egg is already returned to it's nest and they're left with the second remaining larger egg.

* PapaBear: Chomper's father, who is the second half of a pair of angry sharpteeth looking for their missing egg.

* TemptingFate: Cera, when jumping from rock to rock to reach the sheltering grass. Then she falls into the sinking sand and needs help. "Whew! See? Whoa!".

** Littlefoot and Ozzy's reactions' when he almost ate his head mistakening it for an egg. Cue Freakout.

** Littlefoot when he thinks Duckey fell down the cliff gap. Thankfully she caught onto Cera.
