* BigBadDuumvirate: This movie has two for one. First we have Crystal Prep Academy's Principal Cinch, whose scheming throughout the movie leads to the creation of a second BigBad, [[spoiler:Midnight Sparkle]].

* AnarchicOrder: The movie takes place sometime during the Season 5 finale, but because of the two-month scheduling hiatus of ''MLP:FIM'' that summer, it ended up premiering in the middle of season five. Thanks to this, the movie reveals a pretty huge spoiler that [[spoiler:Pony Twilight travels through time during the Season 5 finale]].

** During what is stated to be the speed skating event, the Shadowbolts use inline skates vs. the Wondercolt's quad skates. This gives Crystal Prep quite a bit of an unfair advantage, as the design of inline skates makes them ''much'' better suited than quads for, well, ''speed'' (both teams should be using the same type of skates). Rarity and Pinkie use a maneuver at one point that would be more at home at a Roller Derby competition[[note]] Rarity shoots Pinkie forward with her leg. As an aside, this whole event would still qualify for this trope if it were stated to be Roller Derby instead, as quads are the sort of skates used in Roller Derby, not inlines. [[/note]], and the end credits also show Pinkie and Sunny Flare making physical contact, purposefully pushing eachother -- both things should be illegal in speed skating.
