* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: While the group isn't above belittling each other, in "Who's Wild", they stand up to the raccoon when he starts putting down Honey after showing no regret of letting The Gray one get caught by animal control and not informing everyone else about it.

* AmbiguousGenderIdentity:
** Elsa, aside from lacking TertiarySexualCharacteristics but having a clear feminine voice, she also mentions that she prefers not to be limited by the binary spectrum and answers to female pronouns. One episode has Chief [[AccidentalMisnaming misnmaming]] her as "Elson", yet no one bothers to correct him, not even her.
** Chico is usually presented as male, complete with a masculine voice. But then four episodes later, [[spoiler: he gave birth to a litter of kittens]].

* SickeninglySweethearts: Rutabaga and Juliet in "Who's a Good Therapist?", ever since they were pups, which makes Honey doubt her relationship with Chief, making him heartbroken.

* BettyAndVeronica: Honey is basically married to Chief, a st bernard who's very sweet but has repulsive tendencies, but is also very interested in [[ADogNamedDog Coyote]], who's exotic and dangerous.

* TheRunaway: Tabitha, following a suggestion by Elsa, runs away as a plea for attention. She ends up in a cat care, where she's known as Magnolia.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite how pretentious Elsa acts, the fact that she was genuinely concerned about the Gray One when he ends up caught by animal control on account of a shady Raccoon says a lot.

* InterspeciesRomance: Honey develops a relationship with a wild coyote. This is TruthInTelevision, as there have been cases of dogs and coyotes breeding.

* CrazyCatLady: Lyle is an alley cat who lives with an old lady with several other cats, spending the day watching movies.

* BiTheWay: Lyle (a.k.a. the Gray One) flirts with both the males and females he knows.

Making its' network premiere on May 31, 2021 as part of Creator/{{Fox}}'s 'Animation Domination' block, ''Housebroken'' is the brainchild of Creator/CleaDuVall, Gabrielle Allan, and Jennifer Crittenden (all of whom alumni of ''Series/{{Veep}}''), and centers around an [[AllStarCast all-star]] EnsembleCast of FunnyAnimals.

* EyesAlwaysShut: The Gray One's right eye is always closed for some reason.
