* CompositeCharacter: Dollmaker has the real name of the ''ComicBook/{{Supergirl}}'' villain, Anton Schott, but his appearance evokes the Barton Mathis version. His backstory continues this, with their father's similarly being combined, being named Winslow Schott, the alter ego of the ''Franchise/{{Superman}}'' villain Toyman, but with a history of being a serial killer closer to Wesley Mathis.

* AdaptationDistillation: It's a very, ''very'' loose adaptation of the comic ''ComicBook/NightOfTheOwls'', but only a few basic parts are kept, many parts are removed, and many others changed. The added drama of the strained relationship between Robin and Batman is borrowed from the ''Born to Kill'' story-arc, with the Talon essentially playing the part Nobody did in the comic. It also borrows an element from Morisson's ''Batman #666''.

What's more, she's in a relationship with Talon. We learn at the end that Bruce knew all along Samantha was part of the Court of Owls.]]

** Jeremy Sisto, who voiced Batman in ''[[ComicBook/DCTheNewFrontier Justice League: The New Frontier]]'', as Talon.
** Kevin Conroy- who you may know as the guy who voices Batman EVERYWHERE- now voices the new Batman's father.

* CompositeCharacter:
** Talon seems to have traits of William Cobb, Lincoln March, Nobody (aka Morgan Ducard) and Calvin Rose from the comics, but only tiny bits and pieces, to the point that it's almost InNameOnly.
** There's Anton Schott, AKA Dollmaker, who is mostly based on Barton Mathis, another character nicknamed Dollmaker. By extension of Dollmaker's backstory, Winslow Schott (the Franchise/{{Superman}} villain Toyman and Anton's father) has elements of Wesley Mathis (Barton's father) as well.
* ConservationOfNinjutsu: Three Talons damn near kill Batman in their first encounter. Dozens of them fare far worse in the climax. Not as bad as most other cases, however, since he does mostly fight relatively small numbers at a time.
* CreepyChild: The children wearing the owl masks.
* TheDragon: Talon serves as this to the Court of Owls. [[spoiler:Doubles as DragonInChief, DragonWithAnAgenda, and DragonAscendant when he kills Samantha and every member of the Court of Owls.]]

** An adult Damian does this to Batman during the hallucination.

** The Grandmaster insists that Robin take off his mask as a sign of loyalty, revealing his SecretIdentity. This backfires badly on everyone.

** [[spoiler: The way Bruce unmasks himself in front of Talon before the final battle (ripping the mask off its neck) is similar to how he unveiled himself to a deranged Selina Kyle in {{Film/Batman Returns}}]].
** The shot of Damian!Batman standing over bloody corpses is similar to a similar event with Two-Face in the comics.
** [[spoiler: Like in ''WesternAnimation/BatmanMaskOfThePhantasm'', Bruce's love interest is secretly a masked person, who was assumed to be her father.]]
* NearVillainVictory: Indeed Talon ''really'' comes close in the climax. [[spoiler: He raids Wayne Manor with a batch of Talons, invades the Batcave, incapacitates Nightwing, and got in a near-lethal blow on Bruce. He would've finished him off if Damian hadn't jumped in for the rescue.]]

* PoorCommunicationKills: A lot of the film's problems could've been avoided at the start if [[spoiler: Damian had bothered to tell Bruce someone else killed the Dollmaker instead of lashing out at him. Bruce, being as observant as he is, could've also figured out that Damian wasn't the one after seeing there wasn't any blood on Damian's knife and the way Dollmaker was killed]].
** Even without this inciting incident, there are ''several'' instances where a simple conversation would defuse the entire conflict of the movie. Through the entire movie Bruce ''refuses'' to tell Damian a single thing about the Court of Owls- giving Damian the growing impression that Bruce doesn't trust him- and even once Batman finds out Robin is consorting with Talon he ''still'' doesn't tell Damian that Talon is working for a secret order that wants them both dead.

* SecretCircleOfSecrets: The Court of Owls. In spades.

* StarterVillain: The Dollmaker. He's only in the first six minutes of the movie, then gets his heart ripped out by Talon.

* TableSpace: Bruce and Samantha are shown dining at either end of a long table at the Wayne Manor. [[spoiler:Presumably a suggestion that neither persons' affections are genuine, as both are revealed to be manipulating the other.]]

* TheUnfought: [[spoiler: Batman never really takes on the Court of Owls. He only meets them twice in the film Once as Bruce Wayne and another as Batman to which he winds up drugged and being rescued by Alfred and Nightwing. By the time he recovers, Talon pretty much killed them for him.]]

* WeCanRuleTogether: ''Three times'' in the movie.

** Dollmaker at the start of the movie, though he claims to be trying to "help" them. Batman as well, first fighting the brainwash children minions of Dollmaker and, in the middle of the film, against Robin himself when an argument devolves into fisticuffs.
** [[spoiler:Talon turn on the Court of Owls and kill all its members, including a little girl that was attending with her parents, although this happened off-screen.]]
* WellIntentionedExtremist:
** The Dollmaker sincerely believes he's helping the kids he kidnaps, tortures and mutilates.
** Talon, [[spoiler:Samantha]] and the Court of Owls qualify as well.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Damian, and Talon as a youth.

* StockScream: One of the Talons when Batman is fighting them with the mecha suit. Extremely glaring since none of them ever utter a single sound otherwise.

* RoleReprisal:
** Creator/KevinConroy reprises his [[Recap/BatmanTheAnimatedSeriesE30PerchanceToDream "Perchance to Dream"]] and ''VideoGame/BatmanArkhamAsylum'' role as Thomas Wayne.
** The French dub has the same role reprisals as ''WesternAnimation/SonOfBatman'', with the exception of Nightwing/Dick Grayson [[TheOtherDarrin being voiced by Alexis Tomassian in this movie instead of Donald Reignoux]]. However, it still counts as a role reprisal, as Tomassian was also the voice of Dick in ''WesternAnimation/TheBatman'' and a few other animated adaptations. Also, Thomas Wayne is voiced by Michel Vigné, reprising his role from ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheBraveAndTheBold''[[note]]most specifically, he voiced the character in ''Chill of the Night!''[[/note]].

* WellIntentionedExtremist: The Dollmaker sincerely believes he's helping the kids he kidnaps, tortures and mutilates. Talon, Samantha and the Court of Owls qualify as well.

Voice actors include Creator/JasonOMara, Stuart Allen, Creator/SeanMaher, and David [=McCallum=] reprising their respective roles from ''WesternAnimation/SonOfBatman'' as Batman, ComicBook/{{Robin}}, ComicBook/{{Nightwing}}, and Alfred; Jeremy Sisto (''Series/LawAndOrder'') as Talon; legendary Batman voice Creator/KevinConroy (''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries'') as Thomas Wayne, Creator/GreyDeLisle (''WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooMysteryIncorporated'' ) as Samantha, and Music/WeirdAlYankovic as the Dollmaker.
