The movie had the [[TooSoon unfortunate timing]] of being made right after the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbine_High_School_massacre Columbine Shooting]] and was [[{{Bowdlerise}} hastily changed to lessen the violence]]. Thankfully, Creator/WarnerBros held onto the original print and later distributed it as the uncut version.

--->'''Tim:''' Me and the others gave everything, but it just wasn't enough for the old man. I used to think, if I went on long enough, someday he'd retire and I'd...ah, the heck with it. Capes, costumes, bad guys--it was kid's stuff! Bruce probably did me a favor. By the end, I was so sick of it I never wanted to see that stupid Robin suit again...!

[[note]] However, this may actually be [[spoiler: subtle interference from the Joker's mind control chip embedded in Tim's head, influencing the former Robin's mind. For all of Joker's FoeRomanceSubtext and playful attitude towards Batman, it's easy to forget: He fucking ''hates'' the man who always spoiled his fun.]] [[/note]]

Terry must battle the original Dark Knight's [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin newly-returned]] ArchEnemy, SelfDemonstrating/TheJoker. Puzzling both Terry and Bruce is the fact that Joker seems not to have aged at all over the years. As Terry strives to solve this new mystery, he is forced to delve into his predecessor's [[DarkAndTroubledPast dark past]], unraveling the long-kept secret of what exactly split apart the Bat-Family and how the conclusion of the rivalry between The Dark Knight and The Joker ended all those years ago.

* WrongGenreSavvy: While the Joker knows Bruce almost as well as a best friend (he did have access to Tim's memories) and could predict his actions very well, Terry makes it a point to let the Joker know that he doesn't know much about himself while [[CombatPragmatist kneeing the Joker]] [[GroinAttack in the Crotch]]. More than that, Terry had and outsiders perspective on the Joker though with in-depth knowledge from studying Bruce's old files, which meant he could more objectively find the flaws in the joker's thinking and planning without the serious personal history that the original Batman had with the Joker. Since most of the joker's plans revolve around goading Batman and making it [[ItsPersonal personal]] to cloud Bruce's judgement and lure him into traps, this is utterly ineffective against terry who just sees Joker a clown. [[VillainousBreakdown The Joker doesn't take Terry's lack of respect well.]]
