It works and hundreds of mice – including Fievel's family – move out West where the cats maintain the facade to not only get Cat R. Waul's business up and running but also to put themselves in a perfect position to kill all the mice at once so they can eat them.

If Fievel doesn't survive his fall, it looks like a tragic accident with none the wiser (especially his family, as it just seems Fievel didn't learn anything from the first film and went off for some tragic nighttime exploring again). If he ''does'' survive the fall, Fievel's ''still'' stranded out in the middle of the desert with no water, food, or transportation (to say nothing of being one little mouse against the local predators). Of course, Cat R. Waul never anticipated the possibility Fievel might just actually survive against all odds and make his way to Green Rver.
