* ThemeNaming: Various employees of Auranova Industries are code-named after elements on the periodic table. The higher-ups are all named after noble gases, i.e. Krypton, Radon, Xenon, etc.

* WhipItGood: In the Shinka-verse, the [[PsychicPowers Psychic]] move results in a [[EnergyWeapon weapon formed from psychokinetic energy]]. Syena's version manifests as [[WhipItGood whip-like tendrils]] on her arms.

* NoPronunciationGuide: [[AvertedTrope Averted]]. The cast page includes pronunciation pointers for both Syena and Laedan ("sea-enna" and "lay-den", respectively), the pronunciation of which may not be immediately obvious.

* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: Krypton, full stop.

* TookALevelInBadass: Syena finally decides to stick up for herself more and ends up challenging [[spoiler: Krypton]] to a duel in chapter 11. She loses the fight, but since [[spoiler: Krypton's a [[GeniusBruiser Genius]] LightningBruiser whose AsskickingEqualsAuthority]], it's only to be expected.

* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: That page image up there? We haven't even been formally introduced to all of ''those'' characters, and there are tons more that aren't on there.

* TeleportersAndTransporters: The Teleport move, which Syena knows. Comes in handy for rapid travel, even with multiple people tagging along.

* FiveManBand: [[LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters We haven't met everyone at Auranova Industries yet]], but this is how the FiveManBand seems to be shaping up.
** BigBad: Krypton, head of Auranova Industries
** TheDragon: Radon the Houndoom, Krypton's second-in-command. He's of the reluctant but loyal sort.
** TheBrute: Probably Xenon the Charizard, judging by what we've seen of his personality and the information on the cast page.
** TheDarkChick: Shadow the Umbreon, who is responsible for the near-total annihilation of his clan. Older brother of Luna (the only other surviving member of their clan), one of the captive Eeveelutions.
** No clear candidates for TheEvilGenius have surfaced yet, but there's still quite a bit of comic to go.
* FiveManBand: May end up changing as the comic progresses, since [[spoiler: Nick and Josie have been separated]]. This is how it seems to be shaping up so far.
** TheHero: Nick
** TheLancer[=/=]{{Deuteragonist}}: Josie
** TheBigGuy: Reece
** TheSmartGuy: Syena
** TheChick: No obvious candidates yet, but as with the FiveManBand, there are still more characters we haven't met. Perhaps Eclipse the Absol, or maybe [[GenkiGirl Grace the Glameow]].

* ReverseMole: [[spoiler: Reece and Syena]], who eventually turn against Auranova.

* {{Foreshadowing}}: Goes as far back as page 1, which features a silhouette of something that looks rather like a Skarmory in one panel. As the story progresses, Nick continues to [[BadDreams have nightmares]] about being chased by a Skarmory. Ultimately, [[spoiler: a Skarmory named Laedan features rather prominently in the plot to force Nick to evolve]].

* BadDreams: Nick has nightmares about being chased by a Skarmory. They occasionally segue into odd dreams where a voice gives him vague warnings and such. [[spoiler: Turns out those odd dreams were actually [[{{Telepathy}} telepathic communication]] from Sol the Espeon, who believes Nick can help rescue the other captive Eeveelutions.]]

* DidTheResearch: As explained by the AltText on [[http://shinka.smackjeeves.com/comics/1765486/17-25-386/ this page]], the desert cave [[spoiler:Reece and Syena]] are hiding in is made out of reddish-brown stone instead of dark grey stone (which would be more appropriate near volcanoes). This particular detail is mostly present because [=SilverLunarwing=]'s a geology major.

* CaptainObvious: Nick and Josie have a few moments like this.
