* UnexpectedCharacter: Nobody expected [[spoiler:Lord Slug]] of all people to appear in Chapter 74

* SummonABiggerFish: U3 Bardock's attempts to prevent the Saiyans' doom soon end up becoming this. [[spoiler:It all starts with Frieza wanting to blow up Planet Vegeta, which seems relatively easy to counter, as he's soon killed when all Saiyans team together. However, this earns the attention of Frieza's even stronger brother and father. Bardock is forced to spare Broly, so that he eventually kills Cold and Coola and gets rid of that problem for them. However, this means there's now an unstoppable, alive and fully grown Legendary Super Saiyan out there. Bardock eventually teams up with Super Saiyan Vegeta and sets up a plan involving the Heliorites' carbonite to kill Broly. However, this means the vengeful Raichi now has a Legendary Super Saiyan among his Ghost Warriors...]] [[YouCantFightFate See the pattern here?]] What makes all of this fit this trope is that Bardock, thanks to his visions, always seems aware of the new threat that his current plan will eventually make appear, but he has no real choice but to stick with it.

* AdaptedOut: While this fancomic adapts many of the villains from the non-canon movies, is quite noticeable the creators ignore characters from the first six movies (Garlick Jr, Slug, Dr.Wheelo, and Turles, who is noticeably absent in the alternate universes where the Saiyans are alive). From the comical universe with joke characters from non-Dragon Ball series, Kuriza, the son of Frieza is not adapted but Neko Majin is.

* TheAssimilator: Zen Buu attempts this with [[spoiler: [[OhCrap Broly]], but is thwarted by the efforts of U16 Vegetto, Gohan, Bra, and the Namek that pushed the button to send him back because he didn't think leaving [[NotQuiteDead Broly]] in their universe was a good idea.]]
** Later played straight with Xeniloum's armor.
** And he says he did that in his universe with one of the musicians at the Figrindan orchestra.

* AxCrazy: U13 Kakarotto. Come on, just [[http://www.dragonball-multiverse.com/en/page-605.html look at]] [[http://www.dragonball-multiverse.com/en/page-608.html his face.]] And that's just the tip of the iceberg. [[http://www.dragonball-multiverse.com/en/page-610.html I mean, seriously, holy shit.]]

* BatmanCanBreatheInSpace: Subverted by Vegetto, Bra, and Gohan, who have to hold their breaths and use their ki to protect themselves from the vacuum of space. Played straight by Majin Buu.

** Frieza. Put simply, ''no one'' in the tournament is at [[SoLastSeason his level]], since the story is post-series and everyone else has either [[AlternateUniverseReedRichardsIsAwesome beaten him]] or [[VillainWorld beaten the guys who beat him and trained up.]] The only exceptions are the people who are ''too'' weak to fight him, Jeice and Nappa, who forfeit instantly. To make things worse, he gets humiliated and killed in Universes 3, 7, and [[spoiler:9]] and even in the Universe where he won, he still had some trouble unlike the other {{Villain World}}s. [[spoiler:Despite him putting up more of a fight against U18 Goku, he ultimately goes down in one punch.]]

** U10 is downright stated to be the weakest universe, which shows. [[CurbStompBattle Mahissu gets knocked out from Goku simply punching the air, Vegeta loses to his "disgraceful" U18 counterpart and lands in his space completely naked and Bardock suffers from Pan FANGIRLING HIM, using Kid Goku's arsenal from the original series to knock Bardock out.]]
** To make matters worse, the official novelization following U10's forfeit shows Vegeta attempting to hijack the Varga's ship, only to be stopped by Nail and Cargo. The kicker? He and Bardock watch Porunga revive everybody BUT the Saiyans and they are forced to work labor on planet Namek until Vegeta is thrown back to planet Vegeta and beaten for a second time by Nail, in front of his entire planet. Yikes.

** Universe 3 diverged when Bardock put to good use his prophetic visions and managed to take Freeza down, with Saiyans taking over the galaxy, Kakarot never being sent to Earth, and then Raichi taking revenge on the Saiyans. [[spoiler:Piccolo Daimao also fused with Kami, with an evil Piccolo being the dominant personality, most likely to weather the Saiyan attack upon Earth, as stated by a timeline comparison minicomic.]]
** Universe 4 diverged when Majin Buu opted to quickly absorb Vegeta when he threatened to remove Fat Buu from his cocoon rather than plead with him. Goku is then forced to fight on his own, where he is horribly outclassed; even his Hail-Mary of expending his full power to blow Buu up failed miserably and Buu simply absorbs him as well. Because of this, Buu comes too love the Earth and decides to devote his life to doing good and evil, depending on his mood.

** Universe 10, where it should be noted only the East Kaioshin is present (the only one alive in canon DBZ). Otherwise it is similar to Universe 1.

** Universe 19 diverged when Raditz killed Goku, Piccolo, and Gohan on Earth, according to the french novelization. This led to Raditz, Nappa and Vegeta attacking Helior with reduced numbers, which means Helior probably weathered the assault, and stepped up their game.

** The movies have been rewritten to fit within DBZ history. More irritatingly, aspects like Bardock's visions and the Tuffles were rewritten or removed from some universes.

* EvilerThanThou: The match between Raichi and U13 Vegeta has Raichi repeatedly try to mindgame Vegeta with the massacre of the Saiyans in his universe, only to be stunned when Vegeta not only doesn't care, but enjoys the chance to slaughter them all as Raichi's ghosts.

* GrandTheftMe: Turns out that U8 Ginyu is still alive and is currently possessing someone within the U8's group to avoid Frieza's wrath. [[spoiler:Turns out he's in King Cold's body and he's successfully taken over U16 Bra's body after she won their match]].

* LastOfHisKind: As shown in Chapter 48, in half of the universes Cooler happened to be the last living Frost Demon... at least, until he went to Earth. Interestingly, the novelization mentions he's sterile, so he would have been the last Frost Demon even if he hadn't gone there.

* LosingYourHead: [[spoiler: Cell does this to himself to avoid being petrified by Dabura.]]

* MassOhCrap: Pretty much everyone except Broly and Vegetto during their fight is freaking the ''fuck'' out.
** Averted with Zen Buu, though. While he freely admits that the fight was impressive, he doesn't appear shocked, or even worried. And that's ''after'' he saw Vegetto go [=SS3=].

* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: [[spoiler:Frieza pulled a YouHaveFailedMe on his Ginyu. This apparently resulted in Ginyu using his [[GrandTheftMe Body Change]] to switch bodies with King Cold with no one knowing until he did the same to Bra.]]

* OffModel: The Bojack Special has notoriously bizarre art. [[http://www.dragonball-multiverse.com/en/pages/final/0383.png Just look]]. [[http://www.dragonball-multiverse.com/en/page-394.html This Vegeta]] [[UpToEleven might actually top it!]]

** U13 Vegeta looks more than shocked when Dr. Raichi summons [[spoiler:an army of SAIYANS]] after the former easily disposes of the Ghost Warriors [[spoiler:Frieza and Cooler.]]
*** Well, this sticks only for a couple of comics, which is less than a minute in-universe. [[spoiler:[[BloodKnight Because Vegeta gleefully starts slaughtering the ghost warriors, starting with his own cousin and father. And his comrades are annoyed that he's having all the fun.]]]]

* OtherMeAnnoysMe: Bra from U16 and Bra from U18 find each other's life (an incredibly powerful and dedicated warrior, and an irresponsible spoiled brat uninterested in training) a total waste.

* PhysicalGod: [[spoiler: Both Vegito and Broly.]]

** Super Saiyan 2 goes from a x100 base form multiplayer to a x 500 multiplier. This make it more powerful than Super Saiyan 3 was in canon.

** Something more interesting might be how the Vargas constructed a room that [[spoiler:completely blocks out Ki signatures, allowing Cell to produce a second, stronger Cell Jr while murdering his previous one in cold blood]]. Although this may count as [[CrazyPrepared Crazy Prepared]].
*** They also constructed energy shields that can withstand energy blasts from Broly and Cooler.

* TemptingFate: The Nameks at the beginning go out of their way to mention ”[[OhCrap nothing bad can happen]]”. May double as a SuspiciouslySpecificDenial.

* TheyKilledKenny: Strangely, despite his acceptable survival rate in the original series, Gohan is starting to become this, due to all the times he gets [[NoKillLikeOverkill ruthlessly killed]] in the specials. [[spoiler:Not to mention Bardock's vision in Chapter 19 of a Vegetto that has attacked and ''might'' have killed Gohan.]]

* VillainForgotToLevelGrind: The comic zigzags this, with many of the original series's villains having set up {{Villain World}}s and not seeing the point in pushing their limits without competition. Freeza's family and troops, Bojack's gang, and Dabura haven't improved at all from their original level of skill, and the Androids are actually breaking down from lack of maintenance. However, Cell's BloodKnight attitude has left him training constantly since the Cell Games (it's implied he could give Mystic Gohan a fight), Buu's been on an all-absorption diet since the end of the series and won the SuperpowerLottery to begin with, and Broly's power requires no training to grow.
** Also [[spoiler:subverted with U8 King Cold, who if his family's statements and expanded universe material are any indicator, has gotten stronger since Frieza was born, as he once ''couldn't'' control his power in his higher forms at all, but now spends most of the tournament in his final form with no problem at all, much to Cooler's shock, and is powerful enough to curbstomp U3 Bardock when he uses 100% power, something he can access in ''seconds'' as opposed to the minutes it takes his son. Then he goes OneWingedAngel. ''Twice.'']]
*** Then it gets sort of double subverted: [[spoiler:it turns out it never was the original King Cold in the first place! Plus, it is shown in the novelization of his attack on Earth (In U12/U14/U15, where Trunks never interfered), and in a U7 special that he has a world of trouble controlling that much power. So, original King Cold would never have leveled up, but U8!Ginyu in King Cold's body? He sure as hell did.]]

* WebcomicTime: Lampshaded when an annoyed U18 Vegeta mentions that it felt like two years since his fight in the tournament, when only a couple of hours have passed in the comic.

''Dragon Ball Multiverse'' is a FanSequel [[FanWebComics Web Comic]] set ten years after ''Anime/DragonBallZ'' ([[FanonDiscontinuity ignoring]] ''Anime/DragonBallGT'' and ''Anime/DragonBallSuper''). Goku, Vegeta and their children are contacted by the Vargas, a race who discovered a way to travel through {{Alternate Universe}}s and want to hold a tournament reuniting the strongest fighters of TheMultiverse. The heroes, always looking for new challengers, naturally accept. The main appeal of the comic is the potential for UltimateShowdownOfUltimateDestiny and WhatIf stories.

** The band that plays [[http://www.dragonball-multiverse.com/en/page-539.html just before the second round starts]] looks like the cantina band from ''Film/StarWars: Film/ANewHope''.

* OtherMeAnnoysMe: Bra from U16 and Bra from U18 find each other's life (an incredibly powerful and dedicated warrior, and a irresponsible teen uninterested in training) a total waste.

* DramaticFingerPointing: U13 Yamcha does this to Raditz, when the latter arrives on Earth.

** In the last frame of [[http://www.dragonball-multiverse.com/en/page-1158.html 1158]], another host of characters appear, including [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Simon the Digger]], [[WesternAnimation/WreckItRalph Vanellope von Schweetz]], [[Manga/MahouSenseiNegima ZazieRainyday]], [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Deidara]], [[Anime/OnePunchMan Saitama]], and some others this troper can't identify.

* AllThereInTheManual: The official novelization and official fanfictions telling the story of U12, 14, and 16 reveals bits of information unavailable in the main comic. Presumably the most important of them will be revealed later in the main comic or in the specials. Too bad they were only available [[NoExportForYou only in French]]. Recently though, there has been an attempt at creating an English novelization, and the prologue and several chapters have finally been translated.

** Uub [[spoiler: losing his arm to a U19 attack for a second time, and having to get healed by Buu again. "Coming~!"]]

[[spoiler: Even Nappa manages to mock him and get away with it.]]

Since Vegeta doesn't show up on Namek, he's not around to provide an extra distraction to Freeza or his henchmen, which eventually culminates in Freeza killing everyone on Namek (except Goku, who remained alive to destroy Freeza's capital).]]
** Universe 9, where non-human heroes never came into being, leading the Earthlings to step up their game and face threats from outer space on their own. [[spoiler:Also, of note, Krilin refers to the Frost demons as "Coola's empire", because Freeza got shifted out of the picture after he destroyed planet Vegeta, dying at Cooler's hands when acting uppity over an intrusion in his territory: because Cooler and his men did act on the impulse of killing baby Goku then, which was hinted to since Cooler's special chapter stating that events around planet Vegeta's destruction went down differently in Universe 9.]]

** Universe 11, where Babidi kept his control over Buu and defeated the heroes. [[spoiler: It is now confirmed that U11 is the unseen timeline, the universe in which Trunks came back in the past to save Goku from his heart disease, but not deal with Cell. Without Cell, Kami decided there was no compelling reason to fuse back into one being. This eventually snowballed into a situation with our heroes not being strong enough to face Babidi and his goons. It is known that Babidi tried possessing Vegeta but ended up with the same results as in canon.]]

** Universe 17 diverged when Vegeta did not strike Cell in the back and distract him. This allowed Cell to overpower [=SSJ2=] Gohan.

** [[Anime/DragonBallZBattleOfGods Beerus and Whis]] appears with the audience in chapter 51 asking the members of the crowd (which includes [[Anime/MegaManNTWarrior Megaman]] and [[Anime/YuGiOh Yugi Muto]]) about the Super Saiyan God before [[http://www.dragonball-multiverse.com/en/page-1164.html deciding to leave.]]

** Subverted with Gast, while many expected this to be a curbstomp battle, but the battle begins with Gast hitting the floor.
** Doubly subverted when Gast faces Frieza, at first its more-or-less a curbstomp battle for Gast, because Gast stomps Frieza's first form, then loses to the second. When they fight again, Gast stomps every last one of Frieza's forms.

** [[spoiler:U17 Cell vs U6 Bojack. Bojack's only attack that even works is his Energy Bonds, for which Cell easily finds a counter (he can still use his eye beams), and kills him by breaking his back.]]
** [[spoiler: When Zen Buu decides to take control of everything, and start giving ''everyone'' trouble (plus Vegetto is nowhere to be found), Gast casually stands there, tells him to stop, and then uses his psychic powers to suck every little bit of Zen Buu into a ball, completely trapping him and leaving him virtually powerless.]]

* CyberneticsEatYourSoul: [[spoiler:Yamcha]] implies this is happening to #18. He also implied that it happened to himself at one point in time, but that he recovered.
* DeathIsCheap: The Vargas race who run the tournament promise that any casualties will be revived by a random universes' Namekian Dragon Balls (the specification of using Namekian Dragon Balls implies that Earth doesn't have a set in every reality). Having the fighters unrestrained helps put on a good show. Doesn't stop the deaths of [[spoiler: Tidar, Pan, and Syd]] from causing misery to their teammates.

* DissonantSerenity: After being thwarted in absorbing Broly, U4 Buu returns to the arena pissed off, and looks like he's about to kill Vegitto, Bra, and Gohan (and probably would, considering how weakened they are) and then... calmly congratulates them, thanks them for a fun fight, wishes them luck, and walks back to his booth. It comes off as incredibly creepy and foreboding.

* EvilerThanThou: The match between Raichi and U13 Vegeta has Raichi repeatedly try to mindgame Vegeta with the massacre of the Saiyans in his universe, only to be stunned when Vegeta not only doesn't care, he enjoys the chance to slaughter them all as Raichi's ghosts.
* EvilVersusEvil: Some potential matches, particularly Cell vs Dabura [[spoiler:Winner is Cell]] and U13 Nappa vs Frieza [[spoiler:Winner is Frieza, but not without being one-upped by Nappa]] so far. There's also upcoming matches - U13 Vegeta vs Dr. Raichi [[spoiler:Dr. Raichi wins]], and Cell vs Bojack [[spoiler: Cell kills Bojack and wins]].
* ExplosiveDecompression: Unfortunately invoked during Chapter 16. After killing the rest of the Z-Fighters, Cell nabs Krillin and drags him into outer space. Once there, Krillin's ''brain and lungs explode'' almost immediately.
** The explosive properties are debatable though. He doesn't burst open, we just see blood coming out of his mouth and nose, which actually is entirely possible in the vacuum of space, especially given that Krillin was fairly wounded already. Though, given that it is a ''comic'' and thus has no movement, it's impossible to tell if this trope applies or not.
** Averted most of the time, though it does not go in BatmanCanBreatheInSpace territory. Vegetto, U16!Bra, U16!Gohan battle in space for long periods of time with no more inconvenience than the inability to breathe. Heck, Vegetto even goes to SULK a few light-years away from the ring in space to cool down his head, only to remember he NEEDS to breathe. And let's not even get into Broly pulling interplanetary travel without breathing.
* FacePalm: Cell when his fight-happy Cell Junior [[spoiler: risks disqualification after punching his opponent without touching the ring.]]

* ForegoneConclusion: We all know Gogeta will make an appearance. We just don't know when.

* InfantImmortality: [[spoiler: Averted in Chapter 9, when Bojack snaps U16 Pan's neck.]]

** The CurbStompBattle between Perfect Cell and Bojack is incredibly satisfying after seeing the latter [[MoralEventHorizon brutally snap]] [[WouldHurtAChild U16 Pan's neck.]] Especially since Bojack is killed right in front of the other members of U16, and, ironically, by a broken spine.

* LastOfHisKind: As shown in Chapter 48, in half of the universes Coola happened to be the last living Frost Demon... at least, until he went to Earth. Interestingly, the novelization mentions he's sterile, so he would have been the last Frost Demon even if he hadn't gone there.

** Only two people can enter the arena at a time. Keyword being ''enter''. Meaning that Goten and Trunks can get away with fusing as Gotenks, entering the arena, and eventually defusing and competing as two people cause hey, only ''one'' actually entered the arena. [[spoiler:Which happened with ''two'' incarnations of Gotenks. This also accidentally happened to U9 Videl when her Z Sword broke and released the old Kai in it. Since he came from the sword he was ruled an ally and allowed to stay in the arena.]]

* OffingTheOffspring: [[spoiler:Cell killed his Cell Jr in order to create a more powerful kid.]]

* OhCrap: U16 Piccolo gets one when he realizes that Vegetto is injured... which has ''never happened before''.

** U13 Vegeta looks more than shocked when Dr. Raichi summons [[spoiler: an army of SAIYANS]] after the former easily disposes of the Ghost Warriors [[spoiler: Frieza and Cooler.]]

** U18!Piccolo has one again when facing [[spoiler: Frieza, Coola and Cold and witnessing them transform to their augmented forms. Doubly so since Frieza was NOT capable of that before. Goten and a warrior from U19 probably have one now that Kakarot has broken through to [=SSJ2=].]]

* PhysicalGod: [[spoiler: Both Vegetto and Broly.]]

** Super Saiyan Grade 3 (the bulky form Future Trunks uses against Perfect Cell) is equal in Power to Super Saiyan 2, but still makes the use much slower than a "true" Super Saiyan 2.

* PunchParry: Done during the Vegetto vs Broly fight.

* RedShirt: The poor vargas who woke up Broly. And things [[InferredHolocaust don't seem to be going any better]] for the ones who [[spoiler: tried to send Buu back to Universe 4]].

* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Universe 6 does this after Bojack, Zangya, and Syd are revived.

* SerialEscalation: [[spoiler: Super Saiyan 2 Vegetto, followed quickly by ''Super Saiyan 3'' Vegetto and his colossal "Final Dragon Shine" finishing move. He became so strong his ''mass increased to roughly that of a moon''. And even ''that'' didn't kill Broly!]]
** [[spoiler: Super Saiyan 3 Vegetto really isn't, it is known that Goku has access to the Super Saiyan 3 form]], so when you take a Goku and a Vegeta and put them together, it makes sense that [[spoiler: the result of course would have access to the form. The anime and manga didn't go far enough to necessitate Vegetto even needing those forms.]]

The chapter title [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin could not be more accurate.]]

** In a much smaller degree, the U7 Special has an in-universe example, when Krillin, Bulma, and Gohan arrive on Namek... their very first encounter with a Namekian is... [[http://www.dragonball-multiverse.com/en/page-501.html this]].

** Chapter 35: [[spoiler:"King Cold" is revealed to have been Ginyu possessing him all along when, after Bra defeats him, he uses his [[GrandTheftMe Body Change]] technique to steal her body without anyone being the wiser.]]

* YouHaveFailedMe: [[spoiler:Babidi does this to Dabura]] (it gave us a couple of funny moments, though), and [[spoiler:Frieza did this to Ginyu in the U8 backstory. It completely backfired in the end, as Ginyu not only survived but stole King Cold's body without Freeza even knowing]].
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Happens a couple of times. For example, [[spoiler:Bojack does it to Bido, and Cell to his Cell Jr.]]

** just like in the anime, it took a lot for Recoome to go down, too. The man is a damage sponge.
* DeusExitMachina: The Vargas ''could'' have sent every particle of Universe 20 back in an instant if U4 Buu didn't sabotage the machines.

** Averted most of the time, though it does not go in BatmanCanBreatheInSpace territory. Vegetto, U16!Bra, U16!Gohan battle in space for long periods of time with no more inconvenience than the inability to breathe. Heck, Vegetto even goes to SULK a few lightyears away from the ring in space to cool down his head, only to remember he NEEDS to breathe. And let's not even get into Broly pulling interplanetary travel without breathing.
* FacePalm: Cell when his Cell Junior [[spoiler: risks disqualification after punching his opponent without touching the ring.]]

** Universe 3 diverged when Bardock put to good use his prophetic visions and managed to take Freeza down, with Saiyans taking over the galaxy, Kakarot never being sent to Earth, and then Raichi taking revenge on the Saiyans. [[spoiler: Piccolo Daimao also fused with Kami through yet unknown circumstances, with an evil Piccolo being the dominant personality.]]

* CanonImmigrant: Even though the authors are ''not'' fans of ''Anime/DragonBallGT'', U18 Bra is clearly the non-fighting, typical teenager [=GT=] incarnation. She even wears the same outfit. Word on this is that one of the authors liked her character even though she's from in their minds a bad series.

* CrazyEnoughToWork: U17 Cell ''rips off his own head'' to avoid U11 Dabura's [[TakenForGranite stone spit.]]

** Universe 9, where non-human heroes never came into being, leading the Earthlings to step up their game and face threats from outer space on their own. [[spoiler: The only clue we have so far is Krilin referring to the Frost demons as "Coola's empire", hinting at maybe Freeza getting shifted out of the picture around the time he destroyed planet Vegeta. Also, Coola's special hints at events not unfolding the same specifically in Universe 9, because he and his men did act on the impulse of killing baby Goku then.]]

** Universe 11, where Babidi kept his control over Buu and defeated the heroes. [[spoiler: It is now confirmed that U11 is the unseen timeline, the universe in which Trunks came back in the past to save Goku from his heart disease, but not deal with Cell. Without Cell, Kami decided there was no compelling reason to fuse back into one being. This eventually snowballed into a situation with our heroes not being strong enough to face Babidi and his goons. It is known Babidi tried possessing Vegeta but ended up with the same results as in canon.]]

** Universe 19 diverged when Raditz killed Goku, Piccolo, and Gohan on Earth, according to the french novelization. This led to them attacking Helior with reduced numbers, which means Helior probably weathered the assault, and stepped up their game.

* BattleAura: Most characters have one when they power up. This is DBZ after all

** Frieza, of all people, becomes this. Put simply, ''no one'' in the tournament is on [[SoLastSeason his level]], since the story is post-series and everyone else has either [[AlternateUniverseReedRichardsIsAwesome beaten him]] or [[VillainWorld beaten the guys who beat him and trained up.]] The only exceptions are the people who are ''too'' weak to fight him, who forfeit instantly. In more than eight hundred strips, [[CantCatchUp he still hasn't won a fight.]] He gets humiliated and killed in Universes 3 and 7 (and it's obvious the same thing will happen in others, like U13), it's been hinted that even in the one where he won he had some troubles, and it already seems that he will be defeated by U18 Goku without having landed a single hit on an opponent. [[spoiler: Even Nappa manages to mock him.]]

** Universe 10, where it should be noted only the East Kaioshin (the only one alive in canon DBZ). Otherwise it is similar to Universe 1.
