* DrugsAreBad: Played for laughs in [[http://www.captainsnes.com/2012/11/16/796-pushing-it/ episode 796,]] where it's revealed that the worst war crime committed by [[VideoGame/BionicCommando the Videoland's equivalent of Hitler]] was selling drugs to kids.

** All villains in Videoland [[http://www.captainsnes.com/2012/11/30/797-stupid-videolands-anti-drug/ despised and refused to work with]] [[VideoGame/BionicCommando Master D]] [[DrugsAreBad because he was selling drugs to kids]]. After being turned into Cyber D even Master D himself decided that selling drugs crosses the line (but planning to enslave humanity by turning everyone into brainwashed cyborgs apparently doesn't).

Basically, Magus keeps lampshading the surrealism, and then when they get to the end of the castle, with an axe next to the bridge over lava, Mario asks Magus why he hasn't mentioned how this doesn't make any sense. Then Magus says it makes perfect sense.

* WhamEpisode: [[http://www.captainsnes.com/2003/04/24/323-long-awaited-introduction/ Comic 323.]] [[http://www.captainsnes.com/2005/10/08/496-daos-tale-part-5/ Comic 496 is full of Wham,]] but our hero subverts it the very next comic.

* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: Although most are relatively minor.

** He has the reaction again when [spoiler:Gameboy opens a Warp Zone to the world of Wizards and Warriors and hears Lana screaming.]]

* KnightInShiningArmor: Despite how after the Great Change, the residents of Videoland became much more cynical, [[VideoGame/ChronoTrigger Frog]] remained just as idealistic as to be expected from this trope. Not surprising considering the weapon he wields. Look above at InfinityPlusOneSword for more information.
** In general, this doesn't apply to characters from an SNES game, unless they have been Touched, or have had contact with one of the Videoland residents from an NES game (as only NES game characters were around before the Sovereign's banishment). Lucca and her family seem a bit... off... from how they appear in the actual game, but, at some point, Lucca ''was'' Touched, and since the game didn't give her family a lot of screen time after she averted a family tragedy in her past, it was a blank spot that the Sovereign's power could fill in. As well, multiple characters in FFIV have either been Touched or have been contacted by others in Videoland. Everyone else is either as Alex's playthroughs made them, or as the games themselves had them.

** You think that's a Mind Screw? The whole story is starting to become stupid fresh with it, [[http://www.captainsnes.com/2010/04/30/622-beaned-with-the-truth/ starting here]].

* MoodWhiplash: N-Team's and N-Forcers' final fight with Mother Brain and her allies largely invokes the style of the original ''Captain N'' and the 80's cartoons in general [[spoiler:[[http://www.captainsnes.com/2011/05/25/677-in-the-putting/ until Mother Brain kills Duke]].]]

* MindRape: People touched by the Sovereign of Sorrow are changed, some broken, some empowered and turned into her followers.

While Magus is not quite capable of {{Mind Rape}}s of her magnitude, he does ream Max Force's mind right before meeting the Sovereign. Additionally, whatever Daos did to Sailor Mercury [[http://www.captainsnes.com/2008/06/06/565-broken/ doesn't look very pleasant either.]]

* TouchedByVorlons: Those who come into contact with the Sovereign have their abilities augmented considerably. Given the side effects, it's a pretty bad touch.

* WhatYearIsThis: Done in a ''very'' interesting way to show the disconnect between Alex and his captor. [[http://www.captainsnes.com/2007/08/28/550-embrace-of-power Starts here,]] goes on for about 6 strips excluding the omake.

* YaoiFangirl: Relm in the {{omake}} episodes.
** Actually, she started out as a Shonen-ai fangirl and thought of the sexual content of Yaoi as "icky". She suffered a BSOD after Alex [[BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor went along with her idea]] to write a shonen-ai, but cast Strago (her adoptive grandfather!) as one of the main characters. Ironically, she was a full Yaoi fangirl in her next cameo.
* [[YouAreACreditToYourRace You Are A Credit To Your Gender]]: Ryu has less than enlightened views on women. Which is potentially lethal when hanging around [[ActionGirl Samus Aran]].

* VillainessesWantHeroes: During Alex having a tournament between every female character that's made an appearance in the webcomic, the only one that is interested in him is [[JerkassGods Erim]], and she casually murders everyone else in the same round as her for getting her way, not caring that she's the only one interested in Alex. Understandably, he's rather frightened by her.

** Closer to the trope namer: the fate of the sprites that Puzzle Wizard transforms. Fully cognizant and turned into Tetris blocks. In fact, they used to be able to speak, but he got sick of them complaining and not praising him, so he set his transformation gun to prevent the new ones from being able to talk. And paved over the originals with the "new and improved" silent models so he didn't have to hear them. And turned enough people into blocks as to be able to pave over them.

** [[spoiler:Just when it looked like Green Mega Man and Roll [[http://www.captainsnes.com/2009/07/21/583-civil-showdown/ were going to have an epic fight]] that would decide the fate of the Videoland, [[http://www.captainsnes.com/2009/08/01/584-eyes-wide-open-to-the-world-now-new/ they reconciled peacefully]]. In-universe Vegeta definitely considered this to be anti-climax.]]

** Just when it looked like Green Mega Man and Roll [[http://www.captainsnes.com/2009/07/21/583-civil-showdown/ were going to have an epic fight]] that would decide the fate of the Videoland, [[http://www.captainsnes.com/2009/08/01/584-eyes-wide-open-to-the-world-now-new/ they reconciled peacefully]]. In-universe Vegeta definitely considered this to be anticlimax. If he waited a couple of minutes, he'd have seen Green [[CurbStompBattle curb stomp]] Amon.

** Kefka reappears... and is then [[AnticlimaxBoss killed in one attack]]. [[TheChewToy Repeatedly.]] [[spoiler:Ultimately it was subverted though, as he eventually became a credible threat by manipulating a RealityWarper child.]]

** Played straight when Alex first enters Videoland. Crono and Lucca prepare for his arrival, expecting a Lavos-level entity. Alex falls ans lands face first on the ground.
