* WriteWhatYouKnow: the author went to Rochester Institute of Technology, is an omni-nerd, and is a graphic artist (duh). The comic takes place in the city of Rochester, NY, is about a group of nerds with a myriad of interests, and Greg is a graphic artist.

** Both Curt and Steve are both black. While Curt’s family is completely American, Steve is [[TwoferTokenMinority half African American (his mother), half Afro-Brazilian (his father)]], thus his Portuguese last name, Rocha

** Interestingly, it seems that Jen might actually be more athletic than Jill. Jen, a Psychiatry student, has 1-on-1 "Basketball-Therapy Sessions" with Jill, and seems to be better than her friend; she also [[CombatPragmatist seems to mess with Jill's head during them, to give herself even more of an advantage]] while actually forcing Jill deal with her issues.

** Jill made the [[{{Badass}} Pittsburgh University Men’s Rugby Team]] cry… ‘’How’’, exactly, is left up to the reader’s imagination.

Set in a fictionalized version of Rochester, New York, the series follows an EnsembleCast of Greg and Jill’s circle of friends and acquaintances. [[OneOfUs Nearly every character is a nerd of some sort or another, just like the author himself]], which is befitting since most of them went to Rochester Institute of Technology, the same school which in RealLife gave us the duo who made GeekNights (as well as the author himself).

** Bill is Jewish, though he’s a typical [[Informed Judaism Moderate Jew]], so it’s not immediately obvious.

** John is, of course, [[{{Buddhism}} Buddhist]], given that he left American to join a Buddhist Convent in Japan.

** Jen’s bust, which Greg notes at one point are “way bigger than Jill’s” started out as not being much bigger than Jill’s, fluctuating in size. Over time, however, she became steadily bustier, until she permanently ended up as about a D-cup.

** Jill’s hair started out as vaguely flat on the bottom, like chin-length hair. As time went on, it’s morphed into a more spherical puffed-out PageboyCut.

** During the “When Billy Met Jenny” arc, Greg’s hair has grown long and unruly. Jill says his head looks like a [[StarTrek Tribble]], and his hair is looks very similar to [[CowboyBebop Spike Spiegel’s]]

* MsFanservice: Jen – [[TallDarkAndBishoujo tall, dark, and beautiful]], [[DarkSkinnedBlonde with bronze hair]], [[BuxomIsBetter great]] [[She’sGotLegs features]], [[HotScientist by far the smartest character]], and a [[TheTease playful]], [[{{Dominatrix}} strong]], [[HeroicSeductress smoldering personality]].

* OutdoorsyGal: Give how tanned she is, it’s a safe bet to assume that Jen is/was one.

** During the “Welcome to Rochester” story arc, a whole flock of penguins [[BigLippedAlligatorMoment shows up in their apartment in one comic and are never mentioned again]]. Among the penguins are [[NeonGenesisEvangelion Pen-Pen]], and the comic is titled [[AdventureTime Gunther!?]]
