All these interpretations of [[HeartIsAnAwesomePower love is what helps the Pure Hearts break the Chaos Heart in the first place.]] Between Mario and Luigi, their brotherly love is what [[spoiler: helps Luigi survive the Chaos Heart process when he was fused with it and Dimentio despite it being, you know, an evil artefact intended to destroy the entire multiverse.]] Mario, nodding to Luigi at the end, recognises what Luigi has been through and reaffirms their bond. So for Mario and Luigi, love helped save them which, as mentioned before, was a particular trait of the Ancients.

I'm not suggesting they're related, but I am suggesting that what happened to Giygas at the end of VideoGame/{{Earthbound}} happened to Dimentio. He was probably completely sane at one point, a skilled magician, and who may have even been a nice guy. However, eventually he discovered other kinds of magic, and began to use them. Over time, each spell took away a part of his sanity, and his newfound power replaced it. Soon, the dark magic he tried to control was controlling him. He used this power to obliterate his world, leaving only a small piece, which became Dimension D. He gained a thirst for destruction and a lust for power. Coupled with his lack of sanity, only one thing seperated his mental state from Giygas'; he knew what he was doing, and enjoyed it.

It would explain why his mask is able to make [[ExpressiveMask facial expressions]], and why [[MysteriousPast his past is a total blank]]--he's an ArtifactOfDoom rather than a person.

It's never explicitly stated out loud, but it's hinted at both here and in some of the ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigi'' games that Luigi has a negative side to him that he doesn't want to admit exists. In ''VideoGame/PaperMario'', in his dairy, you read about his complaints of not being able to go on an adventure like Mario. In ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl'', his final smash is a negative zone that was stated to represent his pent-up frustration and jealousy of being in Mario's shadow for so many years manifested into reality. Notably, in ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPartnersInTime'', when only Luigi is barred from passing through the Star Gate. It's all of those negative emotions the Gate is sensing, most of which can be traced to an extreme sense of insecurity of not being able to measure up to his brother in the eyes of others, at least in that series since the RunningGag with Luigi there is that no one recognizes him enough to even bother trying to remember the poor guy's name.

Tippi somehow recognizes Dimentio when seeing him in Chapter 1. Dimentio was the assassin Blumiere's father sent after Timpani all that time ago. It's also sort of implied that Dimentio wrote the Dark Prognosticus.

* At the end of Super Paper Mario, at some point in time after becoming Super Dimentio, the jester used his powers to create an illusion where the heroes defeated him. In reality, he was doing this to give everybody a false sense of hope...So that he could crush it at the last minute. The truth is, he really did destroy all worlds. "But how" you may ask, "are there still Paper Mario games?" Well, after SPM, that's when the Paper Mario games got...iffy. [[LighterAndSofter cuter, cuddlier, funnier, less serious, and definitely less story-oriented]]. There was a radical shift in tone and plot that everyone is aware of, and none of the previous games are even mentioned at any point in time. Well, you know how Dimentio said that - after he erased every existing world - he'd replace them with "perfect" worlds? These are his worlds. First, a world themed around stickers, and then a world themed around colors. It fits with [[LaughablyEvil his silly personality]] a little, as well. He did this both to cause [[TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou misery to Paper Mario fans after seeing how negatively they reacted to change in Super Paper Mario]], and to destroy the unity of the four heroes by making Bowser the "villain" so as to create discord and enmity amidst the heroes and heroine. This is because not only are they are powerless unless in unity, but creating anarchy will obviously power something called the Chaos Heart. He doubled down on the story because he knew that if things got too complicated, then the characters would start to think more about their situation...Which could lead to them [[YouKnowTooMuch figuring out too much]]. And think about it -- where is Luigi in these games? Paper Luigi? In Sticker Star, he was a mere [[EasterEgg hidden]] [[TheCameo extra]], and not even as his paper self like the rest of the cast! But rather as his old 8-bit sprite from [[VideoGame/SuperMarioBros Super Mario Bros.]]. In Color Splash, he's mostly the same, albeit at least paper this time. And in Paper Jam, he only gets ONE cameo! All of these are also suspiciously mute...Almost as if Dimentio is not only trying to hide him, but also silenced him so that he couldn't tell Mario the truth of what was going on. Fortunately, Luigi's roles seem to be slowly growing. He had a cameos as an NES sprite in SS, appeared as his actual paper self in PJ (probably only to distinguish him from regular Luigi) albeit only in one cameo, but got upgraded back to several cameos again in CS. Maybe he'll eventually get an expanded role and reveal everything...? Oh, and this whole thing doesn't just apply to Paper Mario. Perhaps when Paper Jam happened, Dimentio [[HostileShowTakeover gained control over the Mario & Luigi universe]] as well, and seeing Luigi - even if not his paper self - he panicked and stopped the M&L timeline from progressing after this crossover, which is why the only Mario & Luigi games following this one ever since have only been remakes. He's afraid that if time continues to flow after PJ, then Luigi will eventually notice that he has no paper counterpart which will have an undesirable domino effect for the now-almighty jester.
