* Chapter 189 seemingly josses this: in the innermost sanctum of the Unification Chamber lies a glass vial containing a large number of Fragments of Favor. These are used to create the "true coffee", presumably a more powerful version of the "special coffee", which is used to prime both Shadow and Living Doll for the unification process. The clear implication is that the Fragments have been around since long before Anthony (then called Christopher) was selected to enter the mansion. If anything, it seems more likely that Anthony stole a few Fragments as he and Christopher escaped the Chamber right before Christopher committed suicide.

Added DiffLines:

* Chapter 189 gives us much more insight into the unification process: it starts with a days-long regimen of repeatedly doping the Living Doll using the "true coffee" (presumably a more powerful version of the usual "special coffee" made using Fragments of Favor) and getting them to constantly influence their Shadow. It's only after the Living Doll is totally broken and their Shadow completely accepting of the process that they are instructed to enter the box. Notably, when Anthony bursts into Maryrose's room after escaping, he is still wearing the Portrait, while Lou is wearing only her standard clothes during this process and her Portrait is nowhere to be found. While these revelations don't clearly invalidate either interpretation, I personally believe that the circumstances required for Anthony to actually be Christopher have been made less plausible.

added WMG about Christopher's soot power and the Fragment of Favor

Added DiffLines:

[[WMG: Christopher’s soot power and the Fragment of Favor’s origin]]
*During the flashbacks, being a Star Bearer used to be a prerequisite to becoming an adult. Assuming Kate’s theory that awakening to a soot power is also required to unify, then Christopher must have had a soot power. Perhaps Christopher’s soot power was [[SuperEmpowering the ability to amplify other’s soot powers]]. Soot powers that affect other shadows is almost unheard of but currently exists with two shadows in the present (Evelyn’s HealingHands and Patrick’s PowerNullifier), but they can’t be absolutely the first shadows ever to possess powers of that type. It’s possible that when Christopher awakened, he realized that his soot can amplify other shadow’s powers but also harms them (such as making them release enough soot to make the shadow severely weak). [[AllLovingHero Christopher]] would naturally want to hide this, but a power like that would attract the attention of the adults and likely catapulted him into becoming a Star Bearer.
*The Fragment of Favor is Christopher’s soot concentrated into something like a pill. Anthony would obviously know about Christopher’s soot power, but the concentrated version is new, necessitating the test run. It's Christopher's soot power amplified, causing an extreme soot power outburst and death by emaciation, as we saw with poor Margaret. How Anthony got the soot and how much he has available is going to depend on what happened between him and Christopher, but the name might be a hint at the truth. It’s likely that the only ones of these pills Anthony has are in the glass vial he keeps around his neck.

[[WMG: Both the Shadows and the Dolls are in a way experiments related to [[Franchise/KingdomHearts The Heartless and the Nobodies]] in a way]]
I mean, when you look at it, both the shadows and their dolls are very much the same like the creatures from the series, in a way that the "Shadows" are Pureblood Heartless that in a way retained their own form even after being divided from heart and body, while the dolls are in a way replicas to store what remains from the rest. The Scorches and Phantoms that has to be cleaned in the mansion in a way are pureblood heartless that had adapted to the world, being like "off springs" from the Demon Servants or the Possesors due to their "foggy and dusty" appearance, and their plan to attack the dolls are in a way the more likely they can get to devour a "heart", leaving the replicas once again in an empty state.

[[WMG: Emilyko actually is a living doll crafted by some separate entity, and started to become human after being given a name by Kate.]]
* On top of Emilyko not initially having a name of her own, she also doesn't understand what hunger is until Kate explains it to her, despite that being something she would logically be intimately familiar with spending her life on the road in a circus. "Dolls" retain knowledge that is deemed useful, like reading and writing, so it wouldn't make sense for them to forget maintenance knowledge like what hunger is.
