It only stands to reason, as most of the robots and monsters that attack the school was sent specifically to kill Randy. Julian wasn't actually crazy hearing the skull talking to him, the Sorceress was really communicating telepathically through it. If Julian wasn't actually hearing somebody, it's doubtful he would've known so accurately how to leave. As for why she did it, perhaps she was using him as a test dummy of sorts to make sure her method of escape would work. Maybe she would've used him as a puppet, if she were to have escaped and become the main antagonist of the third season. Evil seems pretty naturally drawn to Julian...
