This also explains the non-biological attributes of Pokemon, such as spoons and belts. They could have been made by humans who inhabitated or visited the Pokemon's home universe.

[[WMG: A more mundane, but still in universe, explanation for the seemingly inexplicably identical individuals.]]

The protagonist is a child in elementary school who's just starting to be aware of how big the world is, but to keep their tiny child brain from being overwhelmed they tend to classify non Pokemon League people into broad categories (or may even believe that it literally is the same Nurse Joy who works at any given Pokemon center--Fly, Dig, and Teleport all exist in this world, after all).

Additionally, the protagonist may suffer from partial or total face-blindness, where they identify people by outfit (so, again, literally can't tell the difference between any particular Shorts Kid because that's how they remember them in their mind) but because they're a Pokemon-obsessed child, they have bothered to memorize the distinctive traits of Gym Leaders, the Elite Four, and anybody else who manages to leave a deep enough impression on them (such as Giovanni even before the reveal that he is a Gym leader). It doesn't seem later generation protagonist are entirely free of this condition, either, since characters are almost always identified by their generic category first.

Moved as there are two games called Earthbound on this wiki.

Seeing Gigyas was bringing about the destruction of the universe, his enemies defeated him by time traveling and changing history in VideoGame/EarthBound. Unbeknownst, however, is that Gigyas's sister project survived his SuicidalCosmicTemperTantrum, creating an AlternateTimeline (he dies in both). Not a whole lot was left, just one baby Mew, some equipment that can still be seen in the Hall of Origin, and an unhatched egg, the last one being why anything survived at all. What would be named Arceus hatched from the egg, and it used the surviving data to create more tools and shape a new world to replace the old one.

[[WMG: Specifically, the Pokémon world has a higher oxygen content in the atmosphere then ours does.]]
Giant insects like Scolipede and Yanmega are pretty much impossible on our earth, since they wouldn’t be able to take in enough oxygen to live. But they wouldn’t be that out of place in the Carboniferous and Permian periods, when the oxygen content was closer to 35%. Since humans evolved in this environment, it’s also why they seem to be able to do quite a bit more than average Earth humans.

* Seems to be confirmed in ''VideoGame/PokemonLegendsArceus'' after you defeat Arceus and catch him. The Research Tasks says "'''received a part of''' Arceus" rather than "Number captured: 1/1" or something like that. Jury's still out on whether or not this also applies to all other Legendaries, though.

** Alola: The PC gets to take a break from the “Kalos” ward, but quickly gets into trouble as he relapses into his delusions. Team Skull are local hooligans that cause trouble, but later found out to secretly be part of Aether (more on that in the next sentence), while Aether Foundation is the local NSPCA equivalent contacted by the Unovan group to monitor the PC. This means Aether has sent Team Skull to monitor PC while pretending to cause trouble. As for Gladion and Lillie, I guess Gladion is a kid of the leader sent to the covert team since he’s around the same age as PC, while Lillie is another kid whose parents work in the organisation who sympathises with the PC’s situation due to also being a ShrinkingViolet, leading to the entire parent-child conflict thing we see in the second and third act: “You’re from the evil people grouo and you sympathise with me, which means you are an escape!”

Expanding the delusion theory

to:

* Nobody updates this, so I’ll take the hard responsibility to try to to Generations 6,7 and 8.
** Kalos: Transferring to a new ward as his situation soothens, the PC meets similarly aged volunteers who sympathise with his situation (hence the 4 rivals being seen as Friends). The ward is being renovated, so he interprets the renovators as people trying to destroy the world entirely.

** Galar: The PC has found another hobby: Football/Soccer. He incorporates this into his delusions as he tries to win the local football league. The 1v1 natures may be seen as him being the team’s unofficial leader, seeing his teammates as the Pokemon that he has delusions of. Team Yell is simply supporters of a rival team. Macro Cosmos is simply the management group of another rival team that PC particularly hates. Hop is the brother of the local champion that sympathises with PC.
** Legends: Arceus: Could be a stretch, but this could be a dream from his experience with Dr Cyrus.
