Ted and Robin breaking up is Lily's most manipulative moment in the show, but the actual breakup was caused by Robin reacting so badly to a proposal that they couldn't ignore their incompatability. Even the lines Lily fed to the pair were said wrong, with Robin saying Argentina before any of the places Lily suggested. But if Ted's telling the story of how him and Robin belong together, then surely they can't have broken up for a reason like that, right? It must just be because of how manipulative Lily is.

He might have an actual doctorate but if so [[Series/DoogieHowserMD he got it years ago]] and hasn't really used it in a while, [[Series/AmericanHorrorStoryFreakShow or maybe he's just a magician with severe schizophrenia]], he could be [[WesternAnimation/JusticeLeague a boy who was horrifically muted by a nuclear bomb creating new realities for himself with his telepathic powers]] but most likely of all he's [[Film/HaroldAndKumarGoToWhitecastle a washed-up child actor, inventing tons of different characters while trying to meet women]].
