[[WMG: Lamdadelta is Satako’s EnemyWithout]]

This theory is based off the Sotsu leaks of August 2021, more specifically, the shot of Satako’s inner struggle with her witch aspect. The shorthand is as follows…

1. Gou/Sotsu is a prequel to Umineko, acting as Lambdadelta’s origin story.

2. The relationship between Satako and Lambdadelta is the same as the one between Rika and Bernkastel (refer to Saikoroshi hen which according to WordOfGod is the birth of Bernkastel).

This means that Lambdadelta will split from Satako’s consciousness at the end of Sotsu, just like Bernkastel did from Rika’s.

The Logic Error will be the event that mellows out Lambdadelta from malicious monster to the ChaoticNeutral WildCard we know from Umineko.

While there are numerous allusions to ''VisualNovel/UminekoWhenTheyCry'', episode 8 drops the biggest ones with Eua dropping the word "witch" in response to Satoko having a mental breakdown over what can be assumed as her "witch half" manifesting (see how her eyes briefly turn red while she is having her traumatic episode). Given how Satoko's attitude is gradually changing into one more witch-like, give or take a hundred years, and Satoko would have [[MotivationDecay forgotten why she was doing this]] aside from the entertainment.

** For Shion's, Kimiyoshi's, and Oryou's death. Simple, the events of Watanagashi and Meakashi played out the same. [[WMG: Satako is using a “poisoned weapon” delivery system to infect people with H173]]

This theory assumes H173 is either a weaponized pathogen or weaponized toxin. “Poisoned Weapon” essentially means an object designed to inflict injury (such as a blade or other weapon) is coated with a poison with intent to deliver the poison directly to the victim’s blood stream via injury (HIV can also spread via contact with an open wound).

Given Satako’s newfound penchant for malicious traps and pranks, the most likey delivery system is her traps.

Making them When They Cry’s equivilant to Ventus (Hanyuu) and [[spoiler: Vanitas (Featherine)]].

There is a lot more evidence for this theory than it seems.

1. Eua/Featherine looks very much like a sinster version of Hanyuu’s true form/biological age. Complete with the deeper more aggressive voice Hanyuu originally had (refer to her backstory in the prequel chapter featuring Ouka Furude).

2. Hanyuu’s sword is missing. Considering that Hanyuu’s sword is the most closely guarded secret of the Furude family (to the point where only three known people ie Hanyuu, Ouka, and Rika even knew of the sword’s existance), the fact that it is missing points to someone connected to Hanyuu such as an EnemyWithout being involved (Satako knowing about the sword is only possible if Eua already knew about it, which suggests evil splinter).

[[WMG: Satoko did not know Rika was dead in Watadamashi-hen]]

Satoko's only goal is to brainwash Rika, which makes any timeline where Rika is dead not worth sticking around in. Despite this, Satoko goes to the Sonozaki estate with a gun after Rika disappears. If Satoko knew Rika was dead, she would have just committed suicide and gone on to the next loop.

Perhaps she suspected Rika had died but lacked proof, suspected Shion or Mion, and thought she could find Rika's body in the Sonozaki well? Either way, Satoko is not in perfect control of the ~damashi Arcs.

[[WMG: Every imperfection in Eua's looping power is deliberate]]

Eua might claim people remembering their bad ends between loops (Takano's suicide, Teppei's various deaths, ect) is an unavoidable result of her power being greater than Hanyuu's, but I'm sure she could easily make memories only consistent for Satoko and Rika if she really wanted. After all, where's the fun in watching Satoko trap Rika in Hinamizawa if all she needs to do is let Takano do the heavy lifting.

[[WMG: Shion is the culprit of Watadamashi hen]]

The smoking gun is that “Mion” doesn’t know things that she should. Namely that the three families had nothing to do with the Watanagashi festival murders. “Mion” should already know that Keiichi is held in high regard by the three great families (refered as hot blooded but good hearted in the next arc).

Shion most likely grabbed the outhouse keys during a twin switch.

The deceptions in this arc are the following. Instead of being a psychotic yandere, Shion is an AntiVillain. Shion also either developed her own feelings for Keiichi or is acting as Mion out of remorse towards killing Mion (thus harming Keiichi).

Shion was NOT injected with H157. H157 victims tend to be much more psychotic/sadistic/malicious than those infected naturally. “Mion” is unchararcteristically devoid of any of these traits.

Satako later killed “Mion” in a murder suicide.

It is unknown if detectives know about the oni tatoo marking the heir to the Sonozaki family, so they could have ID’d the wrong twin as being at the well.

[[WMG: Eua is responsible for the broken sword. She will present the other half to Satoko, when she feels like escalating the conflict]]
Sword's don't just break naturally - If Satoko had taken the sword on her own, she wouldn't make the mistake of leaving a shard. There are no other parties who would be interested in the sword, except possibly to sell.

[[WMG: The Hanyuu seen in Gou/Sotsu is Eua in disguise]]
At Satoko's request, Eua allows Rika to remember past loops. What better way to do this than to pretend to be Hanyuu.

If there are memory shenanigans afoot, and Eua/Hanyuu are alternate personalities of the same person, then my theory is that Gou Hanyuu is Hyde pretending to be Jekyll.

Lucia

[[WMG:"Oyashiro-sama" is Featherine before she changed]]
In Umineko, it’s established that at some point in the past, Featherine’s "horns" (which are actually a memory device) were damaged and it caused her personality to radically shift. "Oyashiro-sama" could be what Featherine was like before that damage (and said damage might occur in this show), explaining the different voice actress and somewhat different personality. Further evidence is that in episode 22, "Oyashiro-sama" explicitly references Hanyuu’s horn being damaged as a difference between the two of them, which could be foreshadowing that something similar will happen to "Oyashiro-sama." Alternatively…

[[WMG:"Oyashiro-sama" is Featherine’s piece in the Higurashi game board]]
Umineko heavily implied that Featherine was Lambdadelta’s opponent in Higurashi with Rika as her piece. However, generally the players of games are not able to directly interact with the board, which an action like making Satoko a looper would be. Umineko had a very similar situation where a player got around this by having a piece that acts as their proxy, specifically Furudo Erika for Bernkastel. Erika physically looks very similar to Bernkastel but has a different voice actress, much like the relationship between "Oyashiro-sama" and Featherine so it could easily be the same relationship.

Each of the final episodes provides more evidence of Satoko having a connection to the Witch of Certainty. She isn't just a game piece of Lambdadelta, she BECOMES Lambdadelta. And for whatever reason, she'll use her time looping powers to go back in time before the game of Higurashi began, when Miyoko lost her parents where Satoko now Lambdadelta grants her wish that triggered the main plot of Higurashi. In other words, this time paradox created the logic error mentioned in Umineko.

[[WMG: The ending]]
I have about two or maybe three ideas for how Gou ends:
* Due to Takano's knowledge on the Hinamizawa Syndrome, and she is more on the side of "good" (despite admitting that she planned on killing Rika and her friends), Takano could [[EnemyMine team up]] with Rika to take Satoko down. With that, it diverges into two possibilities: either Satoko is killed, or Rika kills herself.
*** Keep in mind that while Satoko had done truly awful things in the loops, Rika would nevertheless still think of her as her best friend, and having to be the one to kill her would push Rika so over the edge, this would lead to the creation of Bernkastel after all of her despair across the fragments manifests into one being. Alternatively, Rika would be forced to [[DealWithTheDevil make a deal with the "New Oyashiro-sama"]] to find a way to reset everything before Satoko got looping powers. This would also cause Bernkastel to be born.
*** To avoid having to kill her own best friend, and to a greater extent escape her tragic fate, Rika kills herself. However, this would drive Satoko to further madness thus leading her to take more drastic actions to keep Rika with her. The "New Oyashiro-sama" then would create Bernkastel from all of the Rikas who gave into despair. To balance it out, Satoko opts to fully become Lambdadelta and uses Bernkastel as a "replacement."
** Lastly, it could be that the "sword" Hanyuu told Rika about doesn't actually kill loopers but instead transforms them. If it is true that Hanyuu becomes Featherine and Featherine, as the Witch of Theatergoing, Drama, and Spectating, loves being entertained, it would not be out of question that she would mislead Rika into believing that the sword actually kills one who loops.

Take two games that have character creators. For this example, I will pick ''VideoGame/TheElderScollsIVOblivion'' and ''VideoGame/TheElderScollsVSkyrim''; both games even taking place in the same universe. Suppose someone wants to make the same character in both games as much as possible, their actual roles are still different since that's how the games were designed but both are still controlled by the same player. In the case of the When They Cry series, "Oyashiro" and Featherine are different characters created for different roles but they were created and controlled by a "master Featherine" or something.

** Alternately, as suggested e.g. [[https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1871461#msg60980221 here]], someone else could have entered the house at that point and Keiichi attacked them, hallucinating that they were Rena. Perhaps this person carried a syringe (with the HS cure?) and tried injecting Keiichi, which Keiichi hallucinated as Rena stabbing him.
