While the initial implication was that this part of the ocean was home to a creature far, far below the deepest depths ever explored, the presence of the large, volcanic island seems to suggest an entire monster-ecosystem, with any number of other unknown creatures lurking on and around it. Were there a sequel, we would get to see it in detail and get several new monsters, rather than a second Octalus.
