** C.J. claims to be afraid of water at one point, after getting a [[{{Squick}} discarded condom on his face]] while swimming as a child. Ironically, he's the first character in GTA not to suffer from SuperDrowningSkills.

Added DiffLines:

** For examples that did make it in the final product, there's a theater in Los Santos featuring a wall of ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoIII'' posters and Zero RC selling ''Vice City'' and ''VideoGame/{{Manhunt}}'' figures.

Added DiffLines:

* RecursiveReality: The infamous DummiedOut HotCoffeeMinigame has a ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoViceCity'' poster hanging up in the wall, especially odd given that characters from ''Vice City'' do appear in this game. Given that the minigame wasn't finished, the poster was probably just a placeholder.

** A store named "Juguetes Regalos" features characters from {{Franchise/Pokemon}} on its sign.

** The scant details that the fictional band The Gurning Chimps are from "Madchester", Maccer's appearance and accent and the early '90s setting suggest that they are expys of Music/TheStoneRoses. Or {{Oasis}}. Or The Happy Mondays, whose frontman provides the voice.

* HardCodedHostility: The game gives us a case of GameplayAndStorySegregation: Los Aztecas will always mob and eventually attack both you and other Grove Street members outside of missions if given a chance, no matter how close C.J.'s bond with their leader, Cesar Vialpando, is, or that you eventually help them regain their lost territory from the Vagos.

* HappyEndingOverride: Not for the main character, but [[spoiler: VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoViceCity ends with Tommy declaring a "beginning of a beautiful business relationship" only for Ken's cocaine addiction causing Tommy to disown him and he's end up being a liable asset to the Mafia operations in Las Venturas.]]

Apparently not in the PC version where no matter what you do, they won't attack unless provoked or in very rare occasions.

* BlackAndGrayMorality: The protagonists of ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoIII'' and ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoViceCity'' can only be said to be heroes in the sense that they fight against people who are even worse than they are. C.J., on the other hand, has a few genuinely heroic motivations (getting the drug dealers out of his neighborhood, avenging his mother's death, keeping his family and friends safe from harm), but he's still a murdering, thieving gangbanger [[spoiler: who blows up the Hoover Dam]].
