Long ago, the six great owls created the land of Owlia, and have ruled over it peacefully for eighty thousand years. It is in this land that a girl named Adlanniel lives with her owl, Tyto.

One day, while out in the woods, the two are provided an audience by Silmarian, the king of the six great owls.
