Revealed at E3 2014, the demo shows two teams, consisting of the [[CompetitiveMultiplayer "Good Guys" and the "Bad Guys"]], that fight for control over maps, accomplished by spraying colored ink across the map, with the team with the most area of the map controlled winning. Oh yeah, and all of the characters are "Inklings", [[ItMakesSenseInContext who can turn into squids and swim in their team's ink to get around the map quicker]].

While E3 2014's demo only featured the Turf War multiplayer mode, more modes are confirmed to exist, covering both multiplayer and singleplayer. The singleplayer campaign involves the Inklings battling an army of octopi.
