Hank, a retired salesman rabbit and Larry, his canine best friend prefer to scheme their way out of doing dangerous work. When the world suddenly goes crazy and undead animals start killing the living, Hank decides that the only way to survive is to scavenge for supplies.. or more accurately, to convince [[FunnyAnimals other animals]] to scavenge on their behalf while they just scout out locations and act as lookouts for approaching zombies. Help Larry and Hank find food and loot to survive in harsh zombie infested streets by convincing others to do the job for them.

!!This game is scheming through examples of the following tropes:
* TheAllegedCar: Hank's van looks like it was salvaged from a scrapyard yet still manages to put out decent performance.
* BettingMiniGame: Other than scavenging, supplies can be earned by challenging other survivors to a dice rolling minigame and succeeding, though bad luck means that you can also lose what you bet.
* BloodlessCarnage: The European release of the series removes some of the series' bloodier imagery in order to fit with distribution guidelines; comparing [[https://www.xboxtavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/schemmain.jpg the original cover art]] with [[https://fs-prod-cdn.nintendo-europe.com/media/images/10_share_images/games_15/nintendo_switch_download_software_1/H2x1_NSwitchDS_SchemingThroughTheZombieApocalypseTheBeginning_image1600w.jpg the international cover art]], blood has been removed from the zombies's mouths, and one animal that was originally dying and leaving a trail of blood with their fingers has already been converted into a yellow-eyed zombie.
* GuileHero: Hank prefers to use his skills as a salesman to convince others to help him and Larry out instead of risking his own life.
* InsistentTerminology: Hank has a habit of calling the undead horde "weirdos" instead of zombies.
* MissionControl: The protagonist duo assumes it for the scavengers who agreed on going along with their inane deals.
* NonActionGuy: The protagonist duo are these - instead of scavenging themselves, they prefer to guide the allied scavengers from the safety of their van.
* OurZombiesAreDifferent: They're undead FunnyAnimals with yellow sclera.
* RecruitedFromTheGutter: The focus of ''Caged'', as seen in its promotional trailers, is Hank and Larry offering to let some convicts out of jail in exchange for them doing the scavenging for them.
* VideoGameCaringPotential: Depending on how honest you are, the scavenging may turn out either successful or fail miserably. If you decide to withhold information that a zombie is closing in on the spot so your scavenger doesn't chicken out and escape with only a little loot, not only may you lose the scavenger's trust but even the scavenger themself (and of course the loot). While certain course of actions may seem risky, like attracting the zombie's attention and driving off to lure it away, as the scavenger may get away with keeping all the loot for themself or fall victim to another zombie, it may also be the thing that gets the job done successfully.
* WorldOfFunnyAnimals: The society of this universe is basically Earth-like, just with stereotypically cartoonish anthropomorphous animals replacing humans.
* ZombieApocalypse: Naturally the game takes place during one, as the name implies.
