The mod features the retired [[WeHardlyKnewYe Mano Aloe]] as the main character alongside her close friend Momosuzu Nene, who after being MIA for a year, proceeds to follow her dreams of making it big as a singer, via rapping with various talents on the block. Update 4.0 would later introduce an alternate story route with Shirakami Fubuki and Ookami Mio, eventually dubbed ''The Adventures of Detective Fubuki'', which takes place shortly after the Aloe version.

''The Adventures of Detective Fubuki'', originally a route with it's own Boyfriend incarnation, was originally created to facilitate potential playthroughs of the mod by the actual ''hololive'' talents due to the main story placing the graduated Aloe front and center, which is speculated by the mod team (Kyou, in particular) to be the reason for the "technical issues". * GunNut: Like Pico, Shishiro Botan in Week 3 carries a Kalashnikov assault rifle while rapping against Aloe. Kiryu Coco in Week 4 also carries a Glock-inspired handgun, waving it around while singing.

** Like the vanilla version, Week 5 features a large cast of characters watching over the holiday-themed rap battle with Takamori. * ContrivedCoincidence: The Fubuki Side is largely a retread of Aloe's route; meeting up with the exact cast of characters in the general same location with the same songs to accompany Fubuki's [[ExcusePlot "hunting the mysterious thief" plotline]]. Some of is {{Justified|Trope}}: as part of her detective work to find the thief, Fubuki retraces their steps by convincing them to meet up in the same location they've been in; Coco has to go through the same trials and tribulations Kazuma had when he tried retiring from the Yakuza life, so she sticks around the clan she left to avert any potential crisis. On top of that, there's some notable differences in how the scenarios play out, such as Botan finishing her Week with "Lioness Pride" -- her original song that was still in the works by Aloe's Week 3 prior, and Kiryu Coco's Week ends in the beverage bar she intended to go to. All that said, this trope is still Played Straight in general: the [=NePoLaBo=] cruising through the same street on a shopping cart in Week 4, meeting up with Fubuki and Coco rapping on top of a moving limousine like Aloe and Coco did before.

* CryCute: Some of Coco's sprites in Week 4 has her tearing up and blushing, notably seen during her off-key drunken demeanor in "Cinderella" and when she signs off in her final song.

** The mod as a whole started life as a simple sprite-swap for ''FNF'' in the first 'Beta' version that replaced Boyfriend with Aloe in her classic design, as it was a tribute to Mano Aloe after her unfortunate early graduation. Later on in life it would evolve into an AlternateUniverseFic featuring overhauled Weeks that feature more of the ''hololive'' cast as opponents / cameos with whole new songs replacing the pre-existing ones.
** The mod's sprites originally intended to give each talent featured their original outfits from ''hololive'' proper. Aloe and Nene's redesigns for launch and later the mod's entire art direction would instead give them casual clothes resembling the outfits they usually wear (assuming the talent [[Characters/HololiveMoriCalliopeCh doesn't already have an urban life outfit]].)

** After "RIP" of Week 1, Nene admits to starting an impromptu livestream of Aloe and Calli's rap battle, showcasing her stream with her avatars (plural) covering the whole screen to hide them both. * TheLastDance: The additional fourth song ''Hands'' in Week 4 can be seen as this as a tribute to Kiryu Coco, who 'graduated' from being an idol in ''hololive'' on July 1st, 2021. The stage also takes a night time appearance befitting the festive, yet somber mood. By the fifth update, it also serves as this InUniverse, as she's formally retiring from the Yakuza lifestyle to [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall move on to another life]].

* PokemonSpeak: All of [[spoiler:Haachama]]'s rap vocalisations are variations of the syllables in her name, [[spoiler: "HAA-CHA-MA"]].

*** After Fubuki questions Kiryu Coco about someone they've been looking for, a popup titled "Side Story: A Bumbling Detective" appears, akin to mid-dialogue sidequests in ''Yakuza''. [[BrickJoke By the end of week]], the same pop-up shows up again, this time showing "quest completed".

Unfortunately, she finds herself drawing the attention of a certain opposing demon clan, who once [[DarkAndTroubledPast made her life hell]] and threatened her and her senpai's and kohai's career before...

Update 4.0 would later introduce an alternate story route with Shirakami Fubuki and Ookami Mio, eventually dubbed ''The Adventures of Detective Fubuki'', designed to be less lore-intensive. Taking place ''just'' after the main route, it follows NewMeat and bumbling detective Fubuki on a case that takes them through the very path Aloe and Nene go down, [[UnwittingPawn unaware they're helping the much more heinous counterparts of the Dearests in the process]].

Prior to [[ContinuityReboot 6.0]], the mod's setting as a whole was a FusionFic AlternateUniverse of ''hololive'' and ''Friday Night Funkin[='=]'' that re-imagined both casts into a cohesive setting, while also incorporating elements from other series such as ''Yakuza''. Most of the lore and backstory was [[AllThereInTheManual shared through tibits of info from the devs]], with a prequel fanfiction by Keaton[=/=]Kyou, ''Fanfic/TheDragonsPizzeria'', serving to expand the background of Aloe and Kenji (the equivalent of ''FNF''[='s=] Boyfriend) and [[CanonWelding to connect the various character's stories together]]. However, following internal conflict over these aspects, it was decided to scrap the crossover elements and solely focus on ''hololive'' starting with the 6.0 update.

* AdaptationExpansion: As the original Mano Aloe never establish too much about her interests or other traits for her short time in ''hololive'', this game and supplementary material shares these elements about ''[=HoloFunk's=]'' Aloe, including a significant backstory distant from real events that shape the lore of the mod.
* AdaptationalIntelligence: The chief difference between Kenji and Boyfriend aside from the former being an angel and the latter now being fictional is that Boyfriend is a FearlessFool and TheUnintelligible to strangers; Kenji is ''not''.
* AdaptationalNationality: The Dearests have no defined nationality in the base game and are generally assumed to be from an Anglo-centric country in fan material. Here, they're native Japanese. Lampshaded in that the Dearest ''mob'' is mostly TheIrishMob, but the recent KlingonPromotion has caused yakuza members to sign on as well.
* AdaptationalSpeciesChange: Pico's backstory isn't much different in this world except for [[CanonWelding Botan inadvertently creating the person he is now]] by teaching him to use firearms, but in keeping with the UrbanFantasy setting, he's been upgraded from a human to a FallenAngel. The Nene from his continuity has similar treatment in addition to receiving a full name ([[PunnyName N. Grounds]]) and becoming an obsessed fan of Nene ''Momosuzu''.
* AdaptationalVillainy: Even at his most heinous, Daddy Dearest's plans for his victims were never particularly elegant in the vanilla game or other mods, often opting to fire and forget as in the case of ''VideoGame/SaltysSundayNight'' or even the TimeCrash in ''VideoGame/TimesAndTribulationsVsOmega''. Here, he constantly plays an active role in making Aloe's backstory a living hell, and it's stated her being on the surface is the ''only'' reason it's taking so long for him to make an in-game appearance.
* AllThereInTheManual: Like with the vanilla game at the time this mod was made, the story is largely presented outside of the game via WordOfGod[[invoked]], typically on Hoshida Keaton's Twitter and the official ''[=HoloFunk=]'' Discord, some of which [[{{Retcon}} is subject to change]] based on further development. Version 5.0 onward would introduce cutscenes to tell the general story for the weeks, but the lore as a whole was still discussed in this manner until being CutShort.
* AlternateContinuity: The game's universe is for all intents and purposes a version of the world in ''hololive'''s greater lore as interpreted by the DenserAndWackier tone of ''VideoGame/FridayNightFunkin''... [[KnightOfCerebus except for when the Dearests are involved]], which is surprisingly [[BackstoryHorror a lot]]. The extended universe additionally reveals the overall plot also contains the original stories of the ''VideoGame/{{Yakuza}}'' series, the original ''VideoGame/FridayNightFunkin'', and ''[[VideoGame/{{Pico}} Pico's School]]'', modified ever so slightly to fit the UrbanFantasy setting, Kenji and Hana's [[AdaptationalIntelligence more sensible personalities]], and the presence of the Holomems. Moreover, [[StealthSequel it turns out the mod's story is influenced by and takes place after all of the events of those works]].
* AnthropicPrinciple: This is partially why the crossover elements of 5.0 did not transfer to 6.0; without the Dearests forcing Aloe to graduate, there is no reason for any of the other lore characters to have narrative relevance outside of non-interacting novelty tidbits.
* BackstoryHorror: The cutesy artstyle and lighthearted main story does wonders (aside from the lore being AllThereInTheManual) to hide the fact that Aloe's backstory is filled with enough trauma to give [[VideoGame/FridayNightFunkinSoft Benjamin]] a run for his money. In fact, her story could be described as an inversion of Ben's - rather than being forced to go into entertainment by abusive parents, Aloe eventually started getting ''forced out'' by someone who is little more than a third party to her, her friends and family being separated or killed each time they make another move.
* CanonCharacterAllAlong: Double subverted. The mod's version of Boyfriend was originally played up as ''the'' Boyfriend subject to AdaptationSpeciesChange and the setting of his lore changed accordingly. Then it was revealed [[ShowWithinAShow "Boyfriend" is just a video game character]] and the person in the real world with his attire is an entirely separate individual named Kenji [[SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute that just so happened to fall into similar circumstances as Boyfriend]], which he is [[LampshadeHanging aware of and dresses accordingly]]. ''Then'' it was revealed his world's version of ''FNF'' does not correspond to the events of the real game, but Kenji's own life ''does'', making him the one true Boyfriend all along.
* CanonForeigner: Though the Dearests (including Girlfriend, who is now known as Hana) and Pico remain largely unchanged from the base game, Boyfriend is replaced with a SailorEarth archetype based on Kanata named Kenji. Though Kenji coincidentally shares many of Boyfriend's traits up to and including dating Hana against Daddy Dearest's approval, he is not the basis for the now-fictional Boyfriend unlike the mod's version of the Dearests. [[LampshadeHanging He dresses the part anyways because he knows about all of this]], but changes back into his angel attire when it's time to get serious. Oh, and it's actually a [[CanonCharacterAllAlong subversion]], since Pico and the Tankmen aren't a part of the fictional game.
* CanonWelding: Pico's firearm expertise that allowed him to survive the events of ''[[VideoGame/{{Pico}} Pico's School]]'' came from Botan, who taught him as a kid while babysitting [[ItAmusedMe as a joke]]. Likewise, her knowledge of Pico's songs from the original ''VideoGame/FridayNightFunkin'' were taught by the man himself.
* ChangingOfTheGuard: The main gimmick of the 5.0 story's treatment of Boyfriend, aka Kenji Tensei. He's made it big, Hana's run off to live with him, and they've successfully outran the Dearests, and as a result has no need for further adventures. With him befriending Aloe, she isn't striking out on her own so as much as she is taking up Kenji's previous role to resume the fight against the Dearests, while the former heroes of vanilla ''FNF'' take a backseat and occasionally watch the action.
* ChekhovsGun: Aloe's heart necklace introduced prior to 5.0 turns out to be the thing connecting her route, Week 3, and ''The Adventures of Detective Fubuki'' together as the heirloom stolen from Daddy Dearest that sets in motion the latter two events.
* ContrivedCoincidence: Somehow, through dumb luck, this world's Daddy Dearest wound up with his daughter dating a blue-haired college dropout and aspiring singer, exactly the same way a [[VideoGame/FridayNightFunkin game he shut down years ago]] depicted with their likenesses. Kenji's human disguise, which resembles an [[CostumeEvolution evolved version]] of Boyfriend's outfit, heavily lampshades this.
* CostumeEvolution: Kenji's human disguise is a version of Boyfriend's outfit refreshed for the urban life of ''[=HoloFunk=]'''s Japan, showing how while he isn't literally ''the'' Boyfriend, [[LegacyCharacter he fits the title nicely]].
* CrapsaccharineWorld: Downplayed. It's heavily implied that this take on the world of ''hololive'' is darker than usual despite initial appearances due to the interference of the Dearests and the yakuza in general manipulating Japan's entertainment industry, but Aloe is the first person to make it show.

Notes from before its dissolution also indicate the final draft was supposed to take that number ''even higher''.

* SadClown: Underneath Aloe's smug grin is a person who has lost ''everything'': her home, her familial figures, and her hopes and dreams, all because of Daddy Dearest trying to tie up a loose end. At the beginning of the story, Nene is the only person she has to rely on, and they reunite entirely though chance alone.

* UncannyFamilyResemblance: Kenji has the appearance of a SailorEarth character based on Kanata if not an outright SpearCounterpart to her, hinting that the two are actually related to each other. Despite the strong resemblance, however, they aren't siblings, but ''cousins'', making it particularly uncanny.
