* AdaptationalWimp: Mario ends up sitting out for most of the Legion of Stationary battles after he and Boyfriend meet up. While he does get a good hit on Tape halfway through "Shifty Sticker", he and Olivia end up taped down and incapacitated for the rest of the song.

* CoversAlwaysLie: The week selection screens for the Red and Blue Streamers show Colored Pencils and Rubber Band just as they are in their game of origin, but that's not how they're encountered during the weeks: Colored Pencils is a ghost, while Rubber Band is missing the, well, rubber bands that make up their torso.
* DualBoss: The Folded Soldiers are encountered in groups of three.

* LighterAndSofter: In a huge contrast to most other FNF mods, The Origami King has no sign of adult humour, instead opting for more family-friendly approaches to the story. Boyfriend's classic blueballs death is also AdaptedOut, instead making him turn into origami like Girlfriend if he loses a song. [[spoiler:Even with the more horror-themed style of the mod's cover of Monochrome, the scenario is still mostly PlayedForLaughs, with Toad's VideoGame/SuperMario64 face being used for the jumpscares instead.]]

* AdaptedOut: Quite a few of the minor characters, most notably the Paper Macho bosses and all of the Vellementals outside of the Ice Vellemental, with areas like the Outlook Tower, the inside of the Shogun Studios and the Princess Peach never being explored. [[JustifiedTrope This makes sense]], considering that [[HeroOfAnotherStory Mario]] is still doing his quest off-screen and would interact with these characters off screen.
* AdaptationalContextChange: In ''The Origami King'' proper, Rubber Band [[DefeatEqualsExplosion explodes]] after being defeated. Here, he still explodes, but it's out of sheer rage due to being defeated by Boyfriend.
* AndYourRewardIsClothes: As well as bonus songs, the shop also contains several new outfits for Boyfriend.
* BackFromTheDead: Colored Pencils comes back as a ghost to battle Boyfriend during his song.

* HeroOfAnotherStory: Mario is one up until chapter three, where he and Boyfriend finally meet up.
* NotQuiteDead: Rubber Band is revealed to have somehow survived his encounter with Mario, leading to his song "Elastic Entertainer". [[CheatedDeathDiedAnyway He then explodes after defeat]].
* TakeThat: Downplayed, but the Purple DJ Toad's soundstage during the songs has "[[VideoGame/PaperMarioTheThousandYearDoor TTYD]] is just OK" on it.
