* CoOpMultiplayer: The game had a co-op only campaign, where up to four players complete a prequel campaign. The campagn consists of 8 missions, and also includes a competitive section. Completing a mission rewards the player with some encrypted data that's put through a decoder to unlock a weapon mod.

* DownTheRabbitHole: A CentralTheme, so much so there's direct Literature/AliceInWonderland quotes between acts; the difference lies in that the characters find themselves in hell-on-an-island instead of Wonderland, and with "What will you do to survive?" as the lesson.

* ArtisticLicenseMilitary: As noted by IMFDB, the MKG is an extremely bizarre version of the FN M249/Minimi, with the belt feed opening replaced by a left-handed charging handle and a weird belt box with the STANAG well adaptor.

* TheVillainKnowsMoment: PlayerCharacter Jason Brody and his new associate Sam Becker have been going undercover in order to infiltrate the RuthlessModernPirates who operate on the Rook Islands. Most recently, they've been invited to a game of poker by the Privateers' boss, Hoyt Volker, in which Sam plans to stab Hoyt to death. Early on in the game, though, whilst a lull is going on, Hoyt suddenly pulls out an even bigger knife, and he's the one who stabs to death instead, before turning to Jason and delivering this WhamLine:
-->Hoyt: Let's raise the stakes a little, shall we? Pseudonym Foster... Jason Brody... whatever your name is, it's slipped my mind. HOW STUPID DO YOU THINK I AM?!

A stand-alone expansion, titled VideoGame/FarCry3BloodDragon, was released May 1, 2013. Related only by game engine and title, Blood Dragon is an AffectionateParody of '80s sci-fi action flicks such as RoboCop, , and Film/TheTerminator (among others); set in the distant, cyberpunk year of 2007, it features retro cutscenes, [=VHS=] tracking, a synth-heavy soundtrack, Creator/MichaelBiehn, and other elements of '80s goodness. ** Vehicle drivers tend to have a hard time driving if it isn't done on a straight, obstruction-free road. They're not very good at avoiding their own comrades walking down that same road, either - the only upside is they won't blame you for their own accidental roadkills like in most other games of the genre.

* BookEnds:

* SlipperyAsAnEel: Moray Eels are one of the many things that will attack Jason, though they are rare, and will stick to the sea floor, so avoiding them is rather easy.
