Kilgern uses his last strength to turn Ameli to stone and kills himself in the process. So he basically sacrifices himself to try and kill the girl who saved his life. This also leads to his superior's orders ending up in the good guys' hands, [[StupidEvil so not only was it a dick move, it was also very counterproductive]].
