Replayed the game recently, and I discovered that I had the treasure placement wrong. The diamond is easier to find than I remembered.

* GuideDangIt: It is not entirely obvious where one of the treasures, the diamond, is located. This is one of the things most likely to prevent the player from obtaining a perfect score.

Two such items are likely to be the sword and the helmet (the latter for defense), limiting the player in how many useful items and treasures they can carry. Leaving the items in the courtyard at the start of the game is likely to be the go-to solution.
