* The British TV series ''[[Series/WhoPaysTheFerryman Who Pays the Ferryman?]]'' was filmed on location in Crete and had a number of Greek actors (to say nothing of most of the extras). And the memorable theme tune was composed by a Greek. Although set in the then-modern day (1977), a lot of the storyline related to what happened on Crete during UsefulNotes/WorldWarII. Coming as it did at a time when more and more people from northern European countries were looking at Greece as a holiday destination, it was responsible for a considerable TouristBump.
